I know right? As much as people think Sonic Adventure 2's plot had holes or was dumb (either because they listen to RU-vidrs like this) you can't deny the fact they at least tried and put effort. I want Sonic stories to be lighthearted but also take themselves seriously when there is a dire situation. This whole notion where "Sonic is a children franchise" is such a lousy excuse because you look back on old games, shows and movies like 'Klonoa' or 'Avatar The Last Airbender'. You think their stories were toned down for children? No.

It's only a matter of time until they pull the plug with this series after his 30th anniversary if that becomes a failure or just mediocre. Other IPs are either showing a lot more potential than recent Sonic releases, such as Sakura Wars, Yakuza:Like a Dragon and Super Monkey Ball HD, or already taking off with flying colours such as Valkyria Chronicles 4, Judgment and even the Sega Genesis Mini. It’s like Sega created the ‘Road to 2020’ vision back in 2017, with major IP revivals as one of the main goals, and then transfer 75% of Sonic games budget into these projects.

Fletcher Reed I think this game is one of the best Kart racers period. It has its own unique mechanics, a single player mission mode, and the stages are set up like a zone-act way and the stages are non-linear.

i don't know maybe it's just me, but something the way the karts handles feels like it lacks friction , like the wheels aren't actually touching the ground, which is sad because the first game handled so well, i can't comment on the second one as I've yet to play it.

I think maybe they're saving that for a possible sequel. This was probably just SEGA and Sumo Digital refining what worked about the original game just with Sonic characters only before really going all out with it in a sequel.

Yeah Transformed is still the best kart racer game I've ever played. I'm hesitant to buy this new sonic one after everyone said its not as good. But I'm wondering if I'd still prefer it to mario kart 8 deluxe as that's one of the most disappointing games ieve ever bought so it wouldn't be hard to he better than that (like seriously in MK8D there's no story mode, there's not many tracks, you can finish everything in about 20 mins and then there's absolutely nothing left to do, unless you play online, and I loathe playing games online) I'll probably get this in a sale. The crash bandicoot one too. I've heard the crash one DOES have a story mode and actual content unlike the mario kart one so that's probably the best one of the 3 big kart racer games on switch right now

All you do is drift and jump and the items are so non-creative. TSR on the other hand gives the kart racing genre a unique twist and that is what keeps it fun for me personally. TSR has more quality on gameplay and tracks and music. CTR wins in quantity.

I do, but I feel like his potential is consistently wasted. You have this powerful, manipulative, sadistic, bloodthirsty 130+ year old alien with a grudge against Sonic AND Eggman...and yet you do nothing with him? Explore more alien lore with potentially more worlds for Sonic and company to travel through, more foes for a consistent rogues gallery, anything? Nope. He's just...there. No real explanation for what happened after Lost World, copping out with a fake instead of utilizing the actual character in Forces. And now, he's just here as a generic meathead grunt. Where's the fun? Drop him in the middle of the city in Forces with an army and have him wreck the place! Why not have a tag team boss battle with Zavok and Metal Sonic, maybe let him overclock the latter or something with his metal manipulation? Have him come up with his own schemes to take out Sonic, put him at war with Eggman! There's a fair amount that can be done with him as a reoccuring villain, but the writers just aren't willing to really justify any character's existence. It's just like Infinite: a potentially interesting character with a great voice actor behind them that get's nothing to work with. Travis Willingham deserves better than this.

when i was an impressionable child i liked the zeti; as gags. however, even then i couldnt take them seriously. sonic forces rolls around and i grow older - i slowly begin to hate the zeti more and more, as they begin to get more obnoxious and forced. they keep coming in for no reason, and it legitimately feels like sega is force-feeding them to us.

Seems pretty unreasonable to expect the game to have more than double the characters it ended up happening. Plus, who really cares about the Deadly Six? Just have it be Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose (with Cream and some Chao as opposed to just the Chao), a team with Blaze, Silver, and then Vector, Espio, and Charmy can all share a kart like the TF2 characters did in Transformed. Finally, put Metal Sonic, Eggman, and Mecha Sonic (instead of Zavok) for old school fanservice.

TSR could've definitely done with at least a few more teams and some better constructed ones. 15 characters, Team Rose without Cream, Zavoc working with Eggman, and Vector joining Blaze and Silver instead of bringing the rest of Chaotix with him just ain't it.

Also, Transformed is not the same game as TSR. It clearly had a bigger budget. You can't expect a roster as big as Transformed if the development team weren't given anywhere near as much money to work with.

Suggesting an even more awkward Team of the ENTIRE Chaotix crammed into what would have to be a much bigger car to fit them all on Blaze's Team instead of being their own Team (which they should be what with them being one of the 4 Teams from Heroes) and bringing back inferior Metal Sonic, who hasn't been relevant since his debut game (MIGHTY prior to Mania+ has been more relevant) and is probably only popular because of SMBZ, as more weak nostalgia pandering ain't it either. This isn't any better than the roster we got, and I'd argue it's worse what with how dirty you're doing Chaotix, OG Team from Heroes, by making them a 3rd wheel on Blaze's team. I can if they're going to charge basically full price for it. 15 characters and some REALLY bad team composition isn't worth the price tag. Heck, 3 more teams would've hit Transformed's roster size (DLC not included), and all that would've required was making Espio and Charmy characters so Chaotix could be their own team while filling that 3rd slot on Blaze's team, making Omo, Hero, and Dark separate racers to make a Team so Cream could rejoin Rose, and giving Zavoc at least 2 of his crew to make a Team while Eggman filled his slot with an Eggpawn (who'd barely need any work done to make playable since they're used as CPU-only racers in the Story). Or better yet, cut Zavoc entirely and just have 2 extra teams alongside the Heroes quartet and Eggman. Like you said, no one cares about the Zeti, so you might as well have none of them if Zavoc is going to be the only one in this Team game (and be working for Eggman for literally no reason).

Also, I really like the Chaotix and think having all 3 of them in the same kart would both be very funny and also cost Sumo Digital less money than to include all 3 separately. It's better than _not_ getting all 3 of them at all.

Well for me it's the lack of characters and tracks, and i guess it has a good number of tracks but the tracks each repeat their theme 3 times, with some exceptions, that being the Rooftop Run tracks. Compared to Transformed it also isn't that interesting, the tracks don't change per lap. The game play is good but isn't as interesting or complex as CTR's, but maybe im just nostalgia baised on this one.

Crash team racing has been heavily overshadowed by its micro transactions situation though. I’m refusing to buy the game on principle because of it. I don’t care how good it is, Activision are not seeing a penny from me to support that disgusting scummy practise.

i agree. the reason everyone myself included still like sa2 is because while i like the boost formula more and level design is a step backwards more linear than1 the control and levels were still fun enough to still recommend and storywise shadow was a cool collected rival that wasnt a vegeta clone that was antagonistic but out of anger and revenge for a friend he lost and at the end when he remembers what his purpose was he helps ave the earth and even calls sonic the ultimate lifeform which i wish would come back in his next appearance, though i think his appearance in tsr shorts was the best incarnation we had since sonic heroes since he is comically determined but isnt an ass that makes you question why he even was put in like with free riders. in unleashed the werehog was a slow beat em up that couldve been replaced with knuckles, given a shorter length or at least more setpieces and enemy variation to distract from the repetetiveness but unlike every other different gameplay style beforehand it still kept the point a to b focus the series had and in cutscenes it was cool seeing the werehog in action and seeing sonic still have control of himself despite being a were beast. i also liked sonic's relationship with chip, how he really cares for amy not remembering him in his new look.i loved the other parts of its story especially if you remember the lore like seeing eggmanland completed not only be a tribute to not only eggman but to his grandfathers legacy or how with the gaia temples the locations they were built in could possibly be were the chaos emeralds landed after tikals backstory in adventure. though the only complaint i have with its story is i wish knuckles had been in it to get more context about the echidnas possible relationship with humans and tails being reduced in spotlight and not having much interaction with sonic and chip. black knight despite the sword being pointless since sonic destroys the enemies without it it was still fun mechanic and was much more streamlined compared to secret rings with a much more fun story that realized the silliness of the situation but still kept the task of saving a kingdom from a dark knight and good twist with a rather supringly mature almost shonen jump like message of living life how you want to the fullest that fits with the series and gives respect to its fans. sorry for the sonic essay that came from this i just get pretty talkative when talking about my love for this series.

for the other 3d games sonic colors is a good game that is'nt bad at all for being more classic with its story as sonic games don't need to be as bloated as a metal gear game to be a plot and it was good for not only giving tails more screen time after being neglected in unleashed and had a good relationship with sonic as well as making eggman more comical while still being a threat to stop with the wisp being a fun gimmik not put in your face like the werehog compared to lost world were tails is an outright brat that forgets about the times hes helped eggman without protest, the deadly six are forced villains that come out of nowhere when i feel they could've been the creators of the wisp to explain their really pointless appearance ,have no reason to go after sonic and are one dimensional even by sonic villain standards on a planet that the game really doen'st give much of an an actual reason for why we should care if it got destroyed and why it exist when every area in the classic games was explained in some way. sonic generations is the best of the boost games but its biggest flaws are its story which while definitely having its moments near the end is even smaller than colors and feels like real missed opportunity of having characters like chip,shahra,merlina,professor pickle omega and implementation of other areas of sonic's past alongside having the friends be playable in a different style of sonic's game play. sonic's direction should be having christian whitehead and his team handle the 2d games with original levels and more importantly other playable characters in a semi-sonic advance successor and for the 3d games have the modern stick with boost formula and continue to improve it with having tails,knuckles,amy,shadow,chaotix and the others be playable with no different gameplay styles sega could just put into their other ips and stop compensating for sonic's flaws with the wisp and give him his own unique moves. however i dont want the adventure style to die but i dont want an adventure 3 as outside of explaining how eggman and knuckles actually tie into their ancestors backstories there isnt much to fully make an adventure free out of. i do however think that the boom series could alongside the tv series be revitalized by fans who know about what was good the adventure games and not include filler like fishing, dumbed down emerald hunting when you could do much more with knuckles play style, and pointless mechs that control worse than gamma when you already have tails better flight to create the adventurous world of ruins made by sonic and his friends ancestors that rise of lyric and sonic synergy tried to be and fully flesh both formulas out with a tone that isnt try-hard and idiotically dark like 06,shadow,forces,lost world, or the main story of the adventure games but lighthearted and having fun with itself by giving great interactions and dialogue like sonic and his friends interactions in the individual character stories of sa1 and sa2 the conversations in heroes and rise of lyric (when its not bounce pad, which does occur!!) and unleashed and colors banter. the sonic games do have a potential outline like this its just someone whether fan or in segas team themselves needs to tell them to stick with a direction and listen to fans who have credits to steer the franchise in a good direction like sonic mania compared to a bad direction like listening to dumb kids who think sonic dieing, shadow swearing with a gun while making the minor plotholes in sa2 look stupid in hindsight, having sonic kiss a stolkhom syndrom princess that somehow didnt cry for years, having villains shoehorned into a story that really only works with just eggman by himself with the worst being a horrible cringe mephiles knock off that became a villain just because shadow called him weak. im happy to see 2d sonic have a bright future for it now sega needs to focus on giving it to 3d sonic as well. again sorry for the long essay rant/thoughtback about sonic's direction. was writing after thinking about johnny's final part in his sonic forces review that inspired me to write this. :p

Am I the only person that founds the Adventure 2 story to be kinda underwhelming? Not that it's entirely bad or anything. But I thought they took the drama stuff way too seriously in an wrong way and some of the details are questionable.

Waluigi has never appeared in a single mainline Mario game since is debut. Blaze has appeared in five (Rush, Rush Adventure, 2006, DS Colors, Generations) and was playable in both Rush games. They're not really comparable.

@Brandon Clark No, not necessarily. I love Sa2 because it balances tension and that classic Sonic snark. Sometimes it goes too far (Gerald getting killed in a firing squad) but.... the opening of Sa2 has Sonic joking about airline food. During the last story, the tension of the ark can be dampered by a joke every now and then, like Sonic and Eggman's little back and forth. Does every game need to be like this? Not necessarily. Sonic Heroes and Sonic Colors have a similar type of tone, but the execution is different. Sonic Heroes feels genuine and well earned. Sonic acts like himself, (as I think the last Sonic game Sonic was likeable in was Black Knight.) And the drama feels earned, like the mystery of Metal's plan and stuff like that.

Funnily enough I played Sonic Advance 2 a while ago, out of interest of playing the Sonic Advance Trilogy (Only played Sonic Advance in childhood and I've barely started on Sonic Advance 3, but need to pick it back up). and I ended up 100% complete the game. I had a lot of fun during Cream's Run cause it makes destroying a lot of the bosses satisfying to get my revenge on (mainly the bad bosses of Zone 4 + 5, Boss Rush and Final Boss). It was so fun to destroy Dr. Eggman with Cheese, and Cream's sprites ARE SO ADORABLE. I really hope she gets to be a playable character in a big Sonic Spin-Off.

Big Feared Balloon man I just want her playable again in non spin off sonic game. I don’t consider the advance trilogy to be a spin off since it was made to be a continuation of the 2d games. Even then, cream was created specifically to fill in the empty slot for heroes, and with her appearance in generations, it’s not impossible to have cream show up again. My only hope is sega heard enough people say “hey wait where’s cream” and the decide to at least have her cameo again. On a side note with her being created to fill in the slot in heroes, if that’s the case then why the hell isnt she here? I can only guess that they didn’t want to have any kids driving semi-realistic looking cars, but tails is only 2 years older than cream so uhhhhhh... At least she’s in the next Mario and Sonic I guess

Yeah... though Cream has never been playable in the Olympic Games. Personally I've been imagining a Sonic Mania 2, where Amy, Cream and Blaze join the crew (meaning all the 2D playable characters are all together (as far as I know that isn't more Chaotix)) and defeat the next big threat. It would be cool to see how those characters would be adapted to the Sonic Mania Sprite Style.

Big Feared Balloon alright a few things 1. I think it’d be so cool to have the advance gang all together again. Just look at the picture you see at the end of sonic advance 3 (the bad ending version) it just oozes with charm and personality. I’d fucking love to see that again. 2. Cream has always shined in the 2d games. She’s a perfect fit for the games and if she amy and blaze were playable in a sonic mania 2 that’d be dope. 3. Apparently sega released a new picture of blaze. This could mean a lot, or it could mean literally nothing. If there was a new game in the works with blaze as a playable character, I’d shit my pants in excitement

I liked the fact that for the longest time she would always be Amy's version of "Tails" and especially in Advance 2, they would really use her for the cute side of artwork and minigames. And it worked because everyone did like the fact she was small and innocent but everytime she would appear on something she would be part of if not the most broken character in that game. It also gave them an excuse to make Amy interesting and good since Sonic is not around, they can focus on showing something else besides "Amy is chasing Sonic again!"

Well a lot of the ideas for the game was by Takashi Ilzukia the head of Sonic Team so do with that as you will.

That or maybe they're just doing basic stuff and save their big guns for a possible sequel. Sort of like how it went with All Stars Racing and Transformed. Hmmm....
