Stevestarr5968…that someone of J Winter’s legacy and ability is not enshrined in the R & R Hall of Fame is all one needs to know about that outfit. Who needs em.
I saw johnny for the last time a few months before he past at Ft. Smith, Arkansas Bluesfest. It took 2 people, one on each arm, to walk him out to his folding chair at the front of the stage. They put his guitar in his hand and it was GAME ON. He blew our minds and then was helped off the stage. I was happy to take my son to see a legend and he says it was awesome and will never forget. Grew up on Edgar and Johnny's music and will be listening till the day I die. RIP Johnny.
We saw him at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA just a couple of years, I think, before. Like you said, he was led out on stage, kind of hobbling along, and seated. But, once that guitar was in his hands, he came to life. Incredible playing. And Birchmere is a sort of dinner theater like place. You sit at tables and can be served food prior to the show. We were right in front of the stage, one table over from where his chair was. I'm very grateful I got to see him. We had gone their for a Joan Baez concert and I saw a poster for Johnny as we were leaving. I stopped dead in my tracks and told her, "We HAVE to go to this!"
@@user-od9wk2di2t John Dawson Winter III was born on February 23, 1944 and was found dead in a Switzerland Hotel room on July 16, 2014. 💔It was a great loss.
I saw him at the Fillmore about 20 years ago, and he was in about the same shape. Except for his hands and one arm, he didn't move at all. But it didn't matter--he blew the roof off that place.
Hendrix said Johnny was the world’s greatest guitarist…Johnny Winter And, Double Live album was very popular amongst rockers back in the early 70s…Sitting in the parks with my friends getting high & listening to him & Deep Purple, Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Mountain, Jethro Tull, Ten Years after…All those Epic musicians, never to return…All I can say is I’m happy to have been a 70s Rocker..Best Rock Ever,…
Me too. I have Johnny And LP. Saw him in concert at Winterland in 1974, and all the other live concerts Jethro Tull The cow Palace, Pink Floyd Cow Palace, Ronin Trower Led Zeppelin ... Rick Derringer and Johnny damn that album high school 71 :-)
I'm 58 and a muso They were best music and times A lot of great stuff. Different to day music Industry have killed Off . Or sold out Or jumped on band wagon Really music has lost. The talent it once was. But I'll always go back To the past. Like jethro tull I'm living in the past.
I can't figure out why Johnny is not in the R&R hall for being an American treasure for all of his works? What an amazing amount of music he has covered. And we get one or two shot wonders that seem to dominate the charts when Johnny keeps True american Music ALIVE?
First time I saw Johnny he opened for George Throughgood at Red Rocks and he blew the doors off the show. It was just incredible. Johnny could play slide in his sleep
The difference is Steve Ray sounds like a white man playing the blues he's excellent by the way and Johnny sounds like he's" black the way he plays both are a cut above the rest what happened to music?????
I saw Johnny Winter live in 1978...I l've played the LP Captured Live§ numerous times .... How could you be so black and so white simultaneously....and full of blues....red hot white and blue!...still alive and well
He can do circles around most the greats! So underrated, and is the only albino white man who can make a black crowd give a standing ovation in B.B. Kings regular place he played at! I give a left nut to play like him
Johnny Winter also was a great singer. His early stuff had the best vocals. Also loved his recordings with the Muddy Waters Blues Band. I saw Johnny whenever I could, even shortly before he died. He never disappointed. Truly one of a kind. RIP Johnny!
Not so much awesome speed as an awesome display of Johnny's Blues acumen. He was always an inexhaustible source of incredible Blues riffs. We not only lost a great performer and guitarist, we lost a virtual Blues encyclopaedia. As a life-long fan, I think you could spend a lifetime making a study of Johnny Winter and still never reach the extent of his understanding. One of the finest ever. May he Rest in Peace.
Jon Paris......he was awesome with Johnny, he played with JW for a very long time .......most 3 piece bands are filled will better than your average players. This one is certainly a pretty good example.
A great example of Johnny's resurgence in the mid 80's. Playing better than ever. His best records were arguably made during this time. The bad boy from Beaumont!
I saw Johnny Winter open up for Stevie Ray Vaughn on the Main Stage at Memphis in May Blues and Music Festival and the sun was setting to the west across Mississippi River , Arkansas way, and Johnny burned the guitar up and his wife sat in a chair on the edge of stage set , whole set. I was standing at the stage fence and the security zone was about 20 feet to front of stage. Awesome view....Johnny finished and and i watched Stevie Ray Vaughn walk out of the Warm up trailer to left of stage and he walked a path about 10 yards from fence and we spoke to him , cheering him on, and he graciously smiled and waved and took stage left right in front of me and my guitar playing buddy, the crowd pressed us hard into the fence during the show and we were about 8 people from fence looking straight up in stevie rays face, he closed his eyes and burned it up and down with the sun setting on the Miss Sipp river.....Amazing Performance with Double Trouble....then about 3 months later that year , we lost SRV....rip SRV...
I don't think people realised just how ahead of his time and Johnny was. Even with all the tattoos not a lot of people were doing that even back in 87. What an incredible talent this guy was. He and Edgar are just phenomenal.
none of that is ahead of time. tattoos are the one of the oldest forms of expression. and this is watered down blues rock, with a crappy bass player with shyte tone, and a rock drummer with no dynamics.
@@morbidmanmusic what the actual fk is your problem fella?,,. Don't tell me, I'll have a stab in the dark. Your absent father once and only once bought you a guitar for your birthday with no fkn strings on it an promised he would buy the strings for your Christmas,, he didn't and you can't play a fkn guitar can you 😂😂😂
The tattoos were popular here in Australia 🇦🇺 I came across Johnny winter in the 90s among the blues music in jb high fi store I bought second winter love it 😍
Man, just man, years of Johnny and still relearning just how good he was. All natural, had a library of licks not no other. Freaky, long thin fingers, bending strings effortlessly, fast chops, he just lets go and all the world is good. Miss him.
What's noticeable here is how sympathetic the band is to every nuance. They're not just providing a backing beat, they're interactively playing with a master. It's like dolphins frolicking in the surf.
Man O man J winter one of the worlds best guitarist, Loved his playing, the reason why I picked up the guitar saw him only twice but you knew you were going to be in awe of this showman, RIP JWinter your music is Alive and Well!!!
Johnny Winter was never under-rated. He was one of the first rock-blues players to consistently sell out large arenas. He's also won multiple Grammys, some for producing albums by Muddy Waters. Johnny Winter was also one of the first acts to be signed-up for the original Woodstock in '69. He also played on stage and vinyl with just about every major blues star.
Friggen love love love this song!!! Brings me back to the good ol times of barbeques and family get togethers💕💕💕 got the privilege to see johnny at a small concert in Syracuse NY.... I was able to slip past so called guards in the back where his trailer was at with my brother when i was seventeen to pass along to him a magnificent wall clock mural of him from my mother...he absolutely loved it!! She had made it herself.... Great experience growing up listening to this man. Ill never forget this mans AMAZING talent!!
I saw him 3 times about 10 years apart each and the last two years before he died...saw him with Edgar once...the middle time. He is easily top 5 greatest and probably would have been more renowned if he had been commercial but he was the Blues...He lived and died the blues and I'm sure he wouldn't have it any other way. Blessed is the man who makes a living doing the thing he loves.
The absolute best who ever lived. Many tried but none could touch him. The monopoly of notes and the precision and speed was undeliverable by any. God rest J.W.
First fell in love with Johnny when I heard his Captured Live album. Actually fell in love with Him AND Robin Trower with his 'Robin Trower Live" album at the same time. Definitely something about Live albums and their raw energy.
Amazing Amazing Amazing...Such a big loss for the blues society, but am lucky to have been to some of his top notch shows, and never disappointed ever... Glad Eric Sardinas, is carrying that tone, and speed on guitar, and the ghostly voice of Johnny Winter! RIP J.W.
I was fortunate to see Johnny perform live on a few occasions. Best slide guitarist I've ever seen live !!! I remember him opening with this song several times. Awesome !!!
I have always liked Johnny Winter. "Be Careful With A Fool" is my favorite jam by him. All of his pulsating power that comes from his Gibson drives me to want to hear more of this rock legend. Awesome speed.
Saw him 5 times. Each one was better than the last. The last time he had to sit in a chair while he played. It didn't matter. Phenomenal Blues entertainer.
Johnny Winter was one of several I followed in my pre-teens to early teens from 1971 thru 1977. Meaning this is what I cut my teeth on learning about rock and roll. Along with ZZ Top, Allman Brothers etc.
Love Johnny Winter, I was fortunate enough to see him live several times. I was always amazed at how fast the notes came out and he looked like he barely moved his fingers, so smooth! Beautiful 😍
I have not listened to this guy since the 80a….need to reintroduce him to my listening….this vid is pretty awesome …..when I was a kid in the 80s I played drums in a lot of jam bands like this and we were always listening to Johnny, Jimi, and the Assassins with Jim Thackery
I've seen Johnny over 30 times I remember a friend of mine was bragging that he saw BB King and how no one could touch his blues playing. Took him to a J.W show in a small bar in R.I needless to say BB was out as his favorite blues man!........Johnny RULES!!
You can't compare J W with BB or J with M Waters.....saw all them live. J W saw 4...BB 3 and M W once. First Johnny was a master guitar player, one in a million type, they also have very different styles. One thing is certain they all liked and respect each other. Let's leave at that.
Saw him this same tour at Cardi's in Houston Texas. I was front and center right at the stage. His three Fender amps were now at my ear level. Sweet ringing still! I was mesmerized to say the least, Rest in Peace Johnny!
Haha. Had the same thing at Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens in the early seventies. My right ear rang for three days. Now at sixty something I could do with a set of hearing aids. Still listening tho.
I saw Johnny Winter at The Omni, Atlanta, GA. March 4, 1974. He was promoting the "Saints and Sinners" release. I was twelve years old! He has left a legacy of great music for the world to enjoy!
Nothing beats the video where Johnny’s playing in Vienna and his amp goes up in flames. He's still going while his crew is trying to get it off the stage 😅 such a great scene
i saw him in a dive bar in edgewood maryland many years ago. the whole show i was like 5 feet from him. one of the greats with out a doubt. had the pleasure to see him many times, in baltimore, civic center, philly at the spectrum, the last time i saw him was a couple years before he passed. in a theater in knoxville tn. he was a true musician. too bad there arent any people out there playing his music. i play some of his songs, but i am just a rhythm player, still have all of my old albums and cassettes, even some in cd. for sure one of the greats.
The man was incredibly talented , I will never understand why they only get their just dues after they are gone. I feel that he was one of the blues masters of his time .Suzie Q is a personal favorite.I can honestly say that I never turned his music down , I always crank it up, and dig it until the very last note ,because there was always some magical licks and riffs that he surprised me with. RIP, Johnny.I will never forget you!
Johnny winters and his baby brother are my legends that I look up to for my inspiration and johnny was the best of the best in blues guitar that ever lived now he has gone and joined the angels to teach them a lesson in the blues . Rest in peace johnny winters
Texas legend Johnny and Edger Winter were always blasting out of my uncles speakers when I was a kid. I see now why the stereo had a stack of albums were always sitting on it.
Man he was really at the peak of his powers then. This was right around the time I saw Johnny live for the first time. I learned so damn much from watching him close up. What a great player.
xkecoupe I saw Johnny around the same time at a club in Harrisburg, Pa. He came out on the stage, and there was no gettin warmed up for a song or two. He came out rippin at full speed! My jaw almost hit the floor in amazement! I had thoughts of going home and tossing my guitar in the trash! Thought...I'll never be 1/100th the player he was! It was something I'd never seen before and probably never will again! The man was incredible! Faster than lightning! But it wasn't just speed. It had feeling too! I'll never forget it!
AW Man I am saddened to hear this. RIP Johnny! I probably saw Johnny a dozen times, he never disappointed and he always played his ass off. One of the best concerts I ever saw was Johnny in a little place in Austin. Bob Seger was the warm up band and I hate to say it but JW blew him away. Anyway Johnny was doing his thing, playing his ass off when the lights came on after a couple of encores. So a few of us kinda hung around and meandered to the parking lot talking about the show. All of a sudden we heard Self Destruction Blues, coming from the arena so we ran back in to see Johnny sitting down in front of the stage just tearin' it up! He played for about 15 minutes and finally said, "y'all might as well turn off the lights, I aint finished yet" Then the band came out and joined him. Johnny played for at least another 45 minutes it seemed. I'll never forget that night. There were probably about 50 people who saw the best encore show ever. He was truly an American Blues Icon, One of the best ever. Thank You Johnny for all the years of enjoyment, Rest in Peace __________________
Johnny...I've seen you 6 times and loved every minute. You were the best! YOU knew how to rock...and YOU knew how to play the best blues. Nobody was/is better! We will miss you. You were absolutely incredible! I never heard you make a mistake. Every time I saw you...after the show...I said to myself..."Wow...how can a guitar player be that good?"...you were unbelievable...absolutely unbelievable." You showed the world how blues is supposed to be played. Many future blues guitarists will get their inspiration from you. "You are truly "THE"... "blues God!" Thank you...and you are well loved! Show them how to play in heaven!
Saw him in a small bar in Detroit they walked him on stage and sat him in a chair and he shredded playing Dylan Stones and his own stuff l had the honor of meeting him after the show never forget it!
Once seen never forgotten and I did and I have never forgotten. He can play and sing at the same time, BB couldn't do that, awesome and sadly gone from us, but he will live on forever RIP
Esse foi outro heroi da guitarra. Antes de partir veio aqui em terras tupiniquins mostrar sua arte. Como sempre nao houve divulgacao. R.I.P. Johnny Winter.
Trippy how those fingers keep moving, keep picking while he stays on time, remembers lyrics, remembers where those words have a tones, and remembers where the mike is.
