Finding this song and the Johnson Mountain Boys singing it was a TRUE blessing for me. Just this morning I was doing my devotional reading and came upon a scripture verse that said, "sing a NEW song unto the Lord." That made me wonder. Then I found this on the Tube. It's going into my Gospel book as fast and I can type it up and learn it. Thanx for the posting.
This is what my great aunts and uncles grand cousins and my mom's generation used sound like when they got together and played and sang for hours...good country people. I was happy then. Miss them and hope to see them again one fine day.
I've got an old cassette of JMB singing this song. One of my favs but never knew until now that Carter Stanley wrote it. This is a great live performance.
A great performance by this wonderful group. This is a cover of an early Stanley Brothers recording...but the JMB's do a solid job with this. And I like the lead cross-picking guitar, again re-doing George Shuffler's version on the original recording.
There's coming a time on the great judgement morning When the Savior will welcome you home Will you be prepared for the journey to heaven On the great ship that carries God's chosen ones home Oh the waters' so deep on the river of Jordan And the lite shines so bright from heaven above And the midnite is past a new day is dawning (from heaven on high) Oh the great ship will anchor in the harbor of love If you're wandering in sin away from God's teaching Won't you ask him to show you the way Fall down on your knees in the chapel next Sunday And meet all your friends in heaven some day
I absolutely love the Stanley brothers so I listen online occasionally and try to learn their gospel songs to someday share with my friends and family. But today God blessed me by showing me this new bluegrass song "Harbor of Love" as performed by the Johnson Mountain Boys. I had never heard of either of them or the song before today and it has really blessed my heart to discover both. Thank you Mr. Barry for sharing it!! This rendering of the song is far better than Ralph Stanley w/Jim Lauderdale in my opinion/ears. Comments are saying that Dudley's voice is the reason. I will soon check out MORE of the Johnson Mtn. Boys work!
