Thank you for posting this. I used this router with Speedify installed as you described. I used my mifi hotspot and my daughters iPhone hotspot to get enough upload speeds to livestream in a crowded convention center at a volleyball tournament. Without this setup and using my mifi hotspot on its own, I was unable to keep a good stream. Thank you.
I'm not able to tether my iphone as you mentioned. However, I can use speedify on my phone to "pair and share" to the router through a lightning to ethernet adapter. This seems kinda like tethering.
Very nice Erik . This could simplify my setup by eliminating the RaspPi which is doing the bonding. Much easier to check the Speedify status when it's on the router as opposed to VNC to the Rpi. A few questions : 1) this FW doesn't work on the Beryl router? 2) Looks like you have all the ports (usb and ethernet) set as the internet WAN. Is there a way to set one or more ports to LAN? I'd like to connect the Mevo via ethernet.
You can adjust. I just plugged my lan into port 1 and it worked. I haven't tried to install it on the beryl. I'm not certain. Be prepared for it to be bricked.
Hi Erik, I’m disabling the SmoothWAN setup, scanning for my iPhone’s hotspot, and adding it. But it just says “Wireless is not associated” for the status no matter what I try. Is there something I’m missing? Thank you!
Most recent firmware doesn't require you to disable the smoothwan setup. Also, I've found that I need to turn off my iPhone Hotspot and turn it back on everytime the router reboots
I stream sporting events similar to you. Based on your video, I purchased the Slate AX and running smoothwan with speedify unlimited account. Set up a few test sources with WiFi and Ethernet from a 5G hot spot. I am experiencing much slower speeds then expected. My Wifi on its own is 650Down/24up, and my 5G hot spot Ethernet was 180down/34up. When connected to the Slate ax via Ethernet lan with Speedify running to bond the connections I am only seeing speed tests of about 100down/18up. Should I expect to see closer to my higher speeds. Am I missing a setting in the router that would increase the speeds.
Bonding signal will always have slower download and upload speeds. But, when you stream, cellular companies throttle you, so you won't ever get to use those speeds. Bonding is almost always faster with streaming.
Great video! With this setup can you use a usb hub connected to the usb port on the router to use multiple usb modems or tether multiple phones via usb tethering?
@@Erikpaul Thanks for the info! I’ve built bonding router using the Slate AX in conjunction with a raspberry pi 4. This will slim down the setup dramatically.
@@Erikpaul I don’t really have any problem with the Wi-Fi on the Pi but I also don’t really use it for streaming. I rely on my Inseego USB800 modems or a hardwire connection.
Similar, yes. Data is sent out on 2 or 3 different signals with the best signal getting the most data, and then those data are repackaged at the VPN server and then distributed to your streaming service.
Please help! After “save and apply” at the 8:00mark, it says “Applying configuration changes…” and counts down from 90s. I can’t get past this point. After 90 seconds, it says “Failed to confirm apply within 90s, waiting for rollback…” and just stays there forever. Any thoughts? Been trying to get this work forever…even thought I may have bricked the first router and bought a new one. I’d hate to think I ruined two of them. PLEASE HELP?
Are you connecting to the router via wifi for the setup or via network cable? This is an error I've seen when connected via wifi. Always setup the router using a connected ethernet cable initially, then you can manage it via wifi.
How don you get to the “SPEEDIFY-UI - Fullscreen” log in page? After viewing the log that shows it was downloaded…I missed the step to get to that page.
@Erikpaul you might be able to help me with this. The log says speedify is now installed but when I go to the overview screen it says speedify is not setup and there is no login option or anything.
Message me on discord. First, make certain that you have internet supplied and then try to install speedify again (not smoothwan). If that doesn't work, try rebooting and doing it again. Sounds like you didn't get the app installed. Logs will help from the VPN installation page.
@@Erikpaul This is awesome!! Slate AX arrived, Setup and working well. I did have minor issue with Firefox but working fine with Chrome. Tomorrow I will be testing with Nighthawks, I have 3 from different providers.
@@darryncarroll7953 and Erik: I might have missed a step, or misunderstood the functionality - but after installing Smoothwan on my Slate AX, Speedify seems to work - but my router's wifi connections have disappeared. I assume they original configured 5G and 2.4G networks should still be available so that you can connect to the router and make use of the bonded access (using 2 ethernet tethered phones)? Or am I missing it completely?
I think I'm missing a step somewhere... I can't get my verizon android cell to work as a hotspot. I tried following the same steps as the iPhone, but nothing. Ultimately, I'd like to take advantage of a house wifi at whatever venue I'm at and use my cell phone as a hotspot. If I can also get a second cell phone to work and have 3 connections, that would be perfect. But right now, I can only get my wifi at home to work.
Are you tethering via a usb-c cable or are you using your android as a wifi Hotspot? If tether, make certain you turn on ethernet tethering in your android settings.
@@Erikpaul I tried it both ways. They both show up in the Associated Stations under >Network >Wireless.... When I go back to Speedify, neither show up.
Come over to the smoothwan discord server and it will be easier to troubleshoot. I would like to see a screen shot of your wireless interfaces page. discord.gg/AxSSjpgwjx
