Blackie you forgot to mention one thing. The smell . All big Military Surplus stores have that same musty smell. It smells like.....victory. With a little defeat and we never left the barrack thrown in.
I Called Kaufman's a few days ago to order ny " Canteen, Cold Weather " after i saw B;lackie show the video of the one he bought there. I spoke to Jennifer and she was very nice and helpful. I bought my Canteen and cover for $30.00 and shipping to Cherr'ville, NC was only about $7.00. Thanks Blackie for the referral.
its only 20 minutes from geneva state forest lake the place i hold my gathings you can drive down go to the store then go camp at lake for 2bucks for the night
I think I speak for most of us when I say my wife absolutely hates my surplus addiction.. Once my daughter is grown enough to fit all the size S gear I bought on sale, it'll all work out 😅
@nprwikeepa6082 Oh my gosh I love going to a good army surplus store! My husband couldn't care less about any of it. So I just prefer to go by myself. It's just a real drag being all excited about it, enthusiastically picking things up, only to have the person with you be impatient/bored lurking around the perimeter of the store go- "huh. cool." all ready to leave in 5 min. 👎 Pass! 💃🏻 lol
@@hagman1077 Sounds like my husband. 🙄 I'm like, are you kidding me? I "need" aLL of it! Lame. I don't get it. I mean, look at the state of things..... every item ice got here will be of use and make life that much more doable in a less than optimal situation.
Was just there Monday the folks are super nice. Found some quick clot bandages a Israeli bandage and neck gaiter. My 2 year old had a field day looking at everything.
Here in Montreal, Canada, most our surplus stores are about the size of a corner store up to an average clothing store size. This one is a place to get lost for a full weekend!
G'Day from Australia, Really enjoyed the walk through your local army surplus store. It reminded me of a now gone surplus store in Melbourne. It was run by two brothers who always seemed to be having a barney/row but they had all sorts of surplus equipment. Ex-British/Commonwealth gear mostly but some WW2 and later US issue. We used to have a chain of surplus stores that went under the name of "Aussie Disposals" and they were everywhere. Now they only seem to operate from their original huge warehouse and on line. I used to love browsing around their stores and buying practical, robust gear for camping, fishing and hunting. I still have some ex-OZ army clothing that doesn't seem to wear out! Most of the surplus gear that I've picked up of late has been bought at garage sales. Thanks for all your videos. I've learned a lot from them. Cheers, Steve
We used to have plenty of Military Surplus store in NZ. Sadly only one is left in my city. It is a good store but yours is a small city in itself. Thanks for the tour Blackie.
Blackie, WOW my kinda store . I was in Nashville, TN. yesterday I went by Friedman's Army-Navy Surplus did buy a few things .Thank You for sharing, I will be giving the ladies call .Thanks Again. Tim L. U.S.Army Vet.
Dave from Reallybigmonkey1 has so much surplus in his basement, the Georgia National Guard occasionally calls him to borrow some…..🤣 That place has some good stuff, too bad I’m in Southern California to far away.
We used to have stores like this in *kanada.* All are gone now, and "surplus" has apparently transformed into Unicorns. Thanks for the memories, Blackie!
I have been told in response to a previous comment that the reason the cups for these cold weather canteens are so scarce is that the company that makes the canteen only made cups for the first lot they manufactured.
Greetings Blackie- That sure is a cool place and one could spend quite a while looking around, for sure. Ive got some stuff I need to get rid of and sell. I remember using those arctic canteens years ago up in Alaska, along with mittens, bear suits, over whites, magnesium snow shoes and skis. If I ever get down that way to Talladega again for the races, Ill have to stop by. Thanks for giving us a tour. You have a good weekend- Carry On-
Thank you for the memories from when I was growing up in San Francisco! They had several Surplus Stores that I would spend numerous afternoons browsing around.
Hi Blackie, thanks for the tour! You've got yourself a gold mine there. Appreciate the info. What a great store, I could spend days in there! When I was a kid, I remember a huge store like that named Silverstein's here in Michigan, it was huge too. But sadly, it's long gone.👍👍
those Korean war wool shirts are about bullet proof, I bought two of them 30 years ago and they are still going strong. My son appropriated one during highschool and wore it as a coat, cant kill them. Buy your 12 year old a small one and his kid will be able to take it out of storage and wear it.
The flag on the field jacket is Belgian. Looks to be from 60s I think or maybe early 70s as after that they have been using their unique ''jigsaw'' camo. I got an old Belgian ''paracommando'' rucksack online in olive drab, cost next to nothing, not the most comfortable or ergonomic but tough as nails and use it as a bike rack pannier.
Mein Gott! I need to get to Alabama. We still have a few good surplus stores in Oklahoma but this is another level. In OK, for the Tulsa area, I recommend Weekender Surplus in Broken Arrow, OK as its a small mom and pop store with all real milsurp. For OKC I recommend Brigadoon Surplus. Other great locations are Omaha's in Fort Worth, TX is excellent as is The Bunker in Farmington, NM. There was a small milsurp shop in Cheyenne, WY by the name of Sergeant's I think. If its still there its worth dropping by. A little cramped but great to dig through.
Thanks for get back go over some of the gear. Really look great but it’s hard to buy it on the wall by video. I’ve gotten several items from them and they’ve always been big. They do such a great job.
Hats off to you Blackie ! This show has got to be one of your best ever ! Used to have a great surplus store in Abilene , Texas called Taylor's Army Surplus and I spent many a happy hour there and more than a few dollars . Sadly it burned several years ago . Kaufmans looks like a paradise and I'm going to give them a call . Many thanks for this show .
I e been there with Blackie and I can tell you he only scratched the surface of the things they have. Thanks for bringing this to us that may need more to build our kits. Thanks brother
I might be digging for 3 days, but I'd be broke in 30 minutes. I wish I had a surplus store like that around my area. We have one about half the size of a Dollar General.
They an't the same, when I was a kid (50s and early 60's) and if you can manage to save $2.00, usually from cutting lawns, that was a whole Saturday afternoon of shopping. You can actually buy American ww2 military surplus. Now they called collectibles and charged hundreds of times what I paid. Free market supply and demand. I still half a dozen m1 carbine pouches which I paid 10cent each and a couple Collins and Shefield machetes with sheaths for 1.50 ea., long gone days and fond memories. 😊
I bought one of those IBNS tents from them ( at 11:13 ) when I was at your gathering this spring. That and a tarp makes for a good ground pounder setup.
Bigger than any AS store I’ve been in. Use to get a lot of military gear from the Base clearing lots, found lots of great deals. Used the mittens trapping in the 80’s. Military mukluks light and warm, Bunny VB boots are worth their weight in gold for extreme cold.
very interesting shop to find clothes to work in and tools to work with. we don't have such shops anymore in my country; i shouldn't know where to buy real army pants and boots shop smells good. most of our tools came from such a shop welders spades axes compressors lights batteries knives lamps
Thanks for the tour Blackie. I'll be placing an order soon. That copper band on your left wrist - I have a friend that had one like that soldered around his wrist by the South Vietnamese. Is that where you got yours? You don't really look old enough.
I guess the days of true army/navy surplus stores are gone.. looks like now it's just another high price retail store. This surplus is super easy to obtain on your own for a tenth of the price..
Hey Blackie I just want to tell you how much I appreciated and enjoyed this Army Surplus tour. It was amazing! 💯 Thank you so much Sir! I'm going to be calling them for some stuff for sure 👍 Much love and God bless - from a (size small) girl in the northern Colorado Rocky mountains 🙋♀️ PS- It was so good that I subscribed - def keep these surplus gear vids a coming!
I used to get Kaufmans West Catalogs and I believe that store was in NM. I'm from Canada and I ordered stuff from them from time to time and had it shipped up to Canada. I drive truck and have had opportunity to shop at a military surplus store in Idaho Falls ID. I'm hoping the Kaufmanns has an online store, I'll check it out.
@ponyboy481 I think I did know they have an online store, but it's so much more fun shopping in person. I'm a Canadian truck driver, some items cannot be shipped to Canada, silly rules or whatever. It's not the store that dictates what can or cannot be shipped. For example, tried ordering a multi tool, unable to ship anything with a blade because of stupid Canadian regulations.
Never been in a surplus store that the isles didn’t get narrower as you went along. Can’t even get in ours. In a wheelchair. Prices sure have gone up since I was a kid (68 now).
