You're right Martin ! This is a way to get your toes wet to enjoy model railroading... and make new friendships too. Success with the new series! Cheers
My N scale club, here in Australia, started some 50 years ago as a modular club where members built a module to bring along. We have now managed to obtain permanent premises allowing us to build a big permanent layout, but the modular concept is still being discussed by our members as some of us remember the fun of operating on these type of layouts. A club is a great way to a) run trains without the need for your own layout, b) make friends with like minded modellers and c) learn all the skills that model railways appear to need.
I didn't even know stuff like this existed, super interesting! It really has a feeling of Dungeons & Dragons but with realistic railroad as a topic. I love that~.
I have never seen how club operations work. I would like to see a full operating session detailing everyone’s job. This has been interesting. Thank you!
Great Video Martin. The NMRA is. A good place to meet people and get involved in an "Operating Session" on a private, club, or modular layout. I'll suggest T-Track as another great venue for people with little space or a small budget, or who just want to test the water--a good topic for your series if it's not already in the cue! Nice to see truly international content on your channel. Cheers.
I live on a 40 foot bus, the layout runs down one side, have the track for the other side. And its solar powered! Im from UK and this is Hawaii, I have my whole collection of British trains here. Moral being: if you want trains bad enough, you can have. If the wife doesnt hate you for it. Great videos, very nice work!
Hi Martin, I would take the opportunity to say that I belong to a Portuguese Marklin railway modeling friends called FERMODEL 😃 Next time you will visit Lisbon, please let us know, we’ll be very pleased to invite you to see our model railways 🤩 Cheers mate 💪
Thank you for this Video, Martin! You are right, module meetings are so much fun because you share the fun with your friends! Get in touch if you want more.
We have such a privat communitiy on Märklin base called Märklin Insider Mist 61 in Germany . We have gread fun to run long Model Railroad on long traks.👍👍😎😎
thanks great video I am in Australia and just starting to build my first solely operations layout I was lucky to get to fill in for someone not long ago and had my first taste of operations and I am hooked just wondering if there is a way to move to different levels on your layout without a helix cheers Alan
Funny enough other clubs have other kinds of systems. Example: Swedish layout in Gävle: station master keeps track of who's coming and going out, the driver keeps track of when he's gonna start. Then the station master calls another station master by q phone and then sends him to the next station or the station border.
What that guy holds in his hand at 3:14 is a WiFi-throttle developed by FREMO called "wiFred". All you need is a DCC-command station that hooks up to WiFi (directly or through an interface). Pair your controler with the command station and you can roam freely all over the layout... Let me point out that the digital standard in Fremo is DCC, not the Märklin-system. The channel is related to Märklin not this video. If you are interested: One wiFred can control up to four locos and the kit costs around 60 Euros for Fremo-members. The USB-C-port btw. is for charging the internal battery. And it is fully backwards compatible with older LocoNet-based DCC-controlers.
I too enjoy your videos. If you have the time and are interested in spending up to three months in the Tasmanian summer, (January May), l would be happy to take care of your airfares and accommodation and also provide a car. I need help with building a simple, but large Marklin layout (analog) that's some 16 meters long. I have all the materials and also the knowledge. This is a genuine offer and you may be assured of a good time, wonderful surroundings and making new friends. I'm also prepared to renumerate you for your help. Please let me know if there's a possibility.
Hi Helmuth, Thank you for your offer! It sounds like great fun! I have done similar efforts both here in Europe and south america. Can I kindly ask you to E-mail me your details on: martin@mrr-tutorials.com ?
I'm using Modular Track on my bedroom floor while I clear another room and save money for bench work. No DCC. No fiddle yard. No elevation (grade) changes. Just a simple loop for my childhood trains....
Thanks for this unique experience and explanation. This was very interesting and you’ve inspired many of my projects and future projects on my newer layout @whites-creek-railroad
