Join us at the first ever Shameless! Festival of Activism Against Sexual Violence on 27 November 

The WOW - Women of the World Shameless! Festival is taking place on Saturday 27 November at the Battersea Arts Centre.
The festival is being run by Birkbeck, University of London and WOW to spark conversations about and address the global health crisis of sexual violence.
It is being run as part of Birkbeck’s SHaME (Sexual Harms and Medical Encounters) research project, which is looking into why (given 40 years of feminism, legal reform, and anti-rape activism) fewer reported rapes are resulting in a conviction (today it’s one in 20 cases, compared to one in three in 1977, and one in 10 in 1996). The project is also looking at the effects of sexual violence and abuse on survivors; what can be done to counter abuse; and where the culture of male sexual entitlement comes from and why it has lasted so long.
The project is being led by Professor Joanna Bourke, Gresham Lecturer and Professor of History, and world-leading expert in the study of violence, especially gender-based violence. In this video Professor Bourke talks about the SHaME research project and the upcoming festival.
