That is really clever and far easier than most of the jigs most people seem to submit for this process. I have a jointer, but as noted it can take a long time on some boards to get to that point, whereas this method is fast and safe to get a straight edge. One additional method may be to use finishing nails instead of a pin nailer depending on your tool availability.

I definitely would not shoot pins into the boards. It’s too easy for one to break off and end up embedded in the material.

I'm thinking make a jig with lock downs and t tracks.. then you're good to go. Rockler sells one but hey we mare woodworkers, we can make it.

Obviously the video was created for SawStop friends but the procedure works even for those lesser table saws. It even works on my Shopsmith Mark V Model 510.

Greg, I am thinking that double sided carpet tape might be another non-invasive method of attaching the straight edge board to your work piece. Great video as usual.

Great video. How would you do it if you had all live edges?

literally the same way.

No guarantee the new edge is perpendicular to the face unless the faces are already jointed right? requiring a jointer

Bryan Vu i dont think he was referencing that in this video... he's showing how to edge joint a board, using a table saw... which some people dont know they can do. great tip!

no what you are doing is lopping off the bad side then you can flip it and lop off the other side and they will both be parallel. you don't need the jointer. you can then put it on a crosscut sled and make the ends of the boards 90 degrees to the two parallel edges.

@@jasonbenjamin1464 Wrong, still need a jointer for making the face flat and it should be done before edging it. The chances of the edge and face being at 90deg's are nill if you rip the edge first so you'll have to rip it again once the face is made flat.

This is not "Jointing" this process would be "Straight Line Ripping" but it is a good way to get a straight edge.

This is a terrible way to accomplish the goal; shooting metal into a piece of wood just gonna require additional finishing you’re gonna miss a piece of metal and planets don’t work together. whatever the next step is better if you clamp it to a piece of wood or even glue it and then cut that away.
