I really love when he talks about technique and does the push-pull on the ride, the guy responds "Oh wow, that was really fast!" and Jojo responds "It's not important that it is fast, it's important that it is possible."
Although I am a film maker i watch jojo mayer's lesson ,he has a deep understanding of not only drumming but also arts & aesthetics as a whole. He's a legend !!
Love Jojo, amazing ability's technically he is the best out there... not to mention his amazing creativity and talent. Similar to Jazz you have to appreciate the precision and the technical ability it takes to play that way. Awesome... Great... Etc....
Jojo is a Sonor endorser, and stands behind their product. It's definitely a Sonor drum: I can bet it's 13x5 dimensions for the main, and most likely with a thick shell: he tunes it to the point where a thinner shell will buckle. What I really love is his side snare: 14x4, tuned low and fat. Just awesome.
0:24 talking about Billy Gladstone which is originally from Romania. Nice to hear that, im from there too, but didnt get New York though, not untill now anyway! :))
This one isn't his Artist Snare. It was most likely what was available to use. His snare is called the Earth Snare on their site. Prices for it run about $1100US
I don't know if this got answered but: Its Jojo Mayer's signature Sonor snare (its a 27 ply) I don't think they have it on their site but you could email them if you wanted one.
Hi, I was there, and I think the snare was a Pearl Omar Hakim signature model, but here on the clinic it's very low tune...........and it's mahogany......
Thanks for sharing! But man, what's that main snare drum? It sounds amazing! It's not sonor judging by lugs, and it's 5" or 5.5" deep. Lugs look like Pearl mmx or something...
Impress the musicians and what you are surrounding, not other drummers! Also my pet peeve are music-store heroes bashing on demo kits. If I ever just try out a drum or something at a music store, it's always in the least offensive and dominating way possible. and I make that a point without saying a word!
john davis is REALLY bored, such an amazing bass player!! jojo is a god in drums, but NERVE as a hole is really amazing, Jonh Davis and Takuya nakamura kick ass!
He is a Sonor endorser. He has to swear by Sonor's products and that he won't use other brands. So I highly doubt that is anything but Sonor snare drum.
it does. to be polite you will have to know a lot more vocabluary. "Can you show this and that" might sound rude and demanding, but if you dont know the words "could you possibly" you have no real choice
SymbolicDrummer not closed minded, my minded...it's a waste from my perspective to play such boring music that is so narrow. Jojo can do whatever he wants...I just can't believe he isn't more musically curious. In other words, I love the guy, respect his talents and want to hear him in more musical contexts.
Jeff Porcaro Groove Master You're hearing dissonance and instantly disregarding it as unmusical. He has played in tons of stuff over the years. He even has a jazz trio. Ever listened to screaming headless torsos? Go pick up one or two of Nerve's EPs. They're insanely diverse. Look up 7even or sedation deprivation. The stuff he's doing is crazy cool.
This music is revolutionary as far as musical. These are noises usually made by a computer, with the accuracy of binary and he's gone and given this robotic beat a human soul and feeling leading him to countless different noises on the kit. He is one of the most gifted musicians of outer time and this is his genius
