This film instantly moved into my top five favorites ever. It's the epitome of what good satire looks like when it is done well. It checks all the other boxes (i..e. cinematography, performances, etc.) in what makes a great film.

Amazing performances by all the kids. Very few casting directors/directors could have pulled off a movie like this with so many kids.

When you realise that the captain ran all the way to Jojo's house because he realised they'd be searching it without even telling Jojo why they were there 😭

Always love when this movie gets chosen. My son talked me into watching it a year after it came out, after I avoided it not wanting to experience the depressing story I expected. It ended up being one of my top ten movies ever. Taika is genius with this. Thanks for posting it, 🙂

I'm old enough to remember when smoking in hospitals was normal, and this movie is definitely in my top ten of all time for creativity, direction and acting. The opening credits - equating the Fuhrer Frenzy of the 1930s with Beatlemania of the 1960s is pure genius.

One of only two movies I watched twice in the theater. I loved this movie so much. And I caught a bit of foreshadowing watching your reaction I never noticed. When Scarlet dresses up as JoJo's father she tell him she's doing what she can, which is what she said about the folks at the gallows.

And is changing form persons, because goes from "they are doing what they can", then "She is doing what she can" and finally him Jojo, "I am doing what I can", that is how much Jojo grow in the movie, he took charge of his life and what to think"

First thing to get out of the way, thank your brother from a random bloke for recommending this to you. Thank you for reacting to it. Roman Griffin Davis (JoJo) and Thomasin McKenzie (Elsa) absolutely crush their roles carrying this movie and the supporting cast kill it too. Seriously everyone is so fantastic. The cinematography is picturesque, the score is gorgeous (Michael Giacchino FTW), the costumes/set design are on point. Easily one of my favorite movies of the last five years. And I haven't even mentioned the story and writing. So many underlying themes and narratives that come back into play on top of the beautiful journey that is the main story. Wish more people gave this movie a chance. Cheers and thanks again!

I love that it starts as satire and sucks you in so much that when it turns during the shoe scene that you're so invested that everything hits home about how dark this story really is. Brilliant storytelling that really makes this one of the best movies

a genius film, I loved scarjo in this. Such a good mom. Absolutely bawled my eyes out when she died. Taika did another really good film called What We Do In The Shadows, it's a mockumentary comedy about a group of vampires living in modern day new zealand, soooo witty and funny.

That is a Beatles song sang in German which they did they went over there a lot when they were getting started,this is the only film I've brought on DVD recently enjoy it.

For a fun Sam Rockwell film, try Mr. Right or Galaxy Quest… for examples of his dramatic acting, I recommend Moon and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

not only is it a Beatles song, but it is also actually the Beatles singing in German (same with the Bowie song at the end I think; I think that is also actually David Bowie singing in German, though I could be wrong)

"Heroes" is from an Bowie album recorded in Berlin. The song's lyrics were inspired by a photo of a couple kissing next to the Berlin Wall taken by the album's producer and his new German girlfriend.

Jojo rabit was hilarious. fun how his imaginary friend was Der Fuhrer.... heheh. I loved how Jojo and the girl grew. Sure had some powerful moments though, and yeah, what a cute kid.

Really enjoyed your reaction. :) I would like to recommend the movie What We Do In The Shadows, also starring Taika Waititi, and the TV show of the same name, not starring him, but even funnier than the movie (despite being set in Staten Island, New York rather than Wellington, NZ!)! Also Brooklyn Nine-Nine because you like The Good Place! And the movie Hot Fuzz, because it's probably the funniest British movie ever, and a decent action movie too!

A tip - I know you didn't want to show some scenes - i.e. the hanging scenes, but these are the scenes which resonate emotionally when watching your reaction. You do yourself and your viewers a disservice if you don't include them on screen with your reaction - some people haven't watched the movie and have no idea what you're shocked about

You need to have the movie on screen most of the time. The entire reaction to the mothers death just shows you and not the movie.

I've always regretted that Waititi didn't make the mother's death more graphic. I know the movie itself isn't graphic, and a shot of Scarlet Johansson hanged probably would have been too much, but that would have made for one hell of a "reality check".

Tbh for what the movie was that was good enough of a reality check. I was laughing almost the whole movie, bawled my eyes out, and then I realize why they focused on her feet. The feet focus wouldn't work if you just showed her whole body, and it would also take away from the true impact on jojo. I mean f*ck, you hear the rope tug as he hugs her lifeless legs, is that not enough?

In reality, he would've been able to see her from across the square, but when details are omitted your mind has to piece it together. Doing the legwork draws fans into the scene, making them think, "What am I looking at? Why is this important." And then, "Oh shit." It's an artistic choice that just hits different than simply being shown. We already know JoJo got a taste of reality without having to see it for ourselves.

Taika Waititi was going for a PG of PG-13 rating here. Making Rosie’s death more graphic serves no useful purpose here. The subtleties of showing her shoes constantly drives the point home when you see her hanging and only see her shoes.

Sorry, but after seeing how you didn´t include the "That´s just a stupid picture of my head" and "That´s where we live" scene, I couldn´t continue watching your reaction. I just immediately lost my respect for you, as a reactor and an editor.
