Fun fact: Pretty much everything in JoJo is named after bands or songs And yes JoJo started as a Manga in the mid 80's and is still ongoing. It got it's own Anime adaptation in 2012 that's when JoJo's popularity skyrocketed

This series is EXACTLY like Guilty Gear's references. The names of powers and characters will just be song names and artists

Jojo is everything music referenced and it throws you in hard from the first series with Dio and Robert E. O. Speedwagon (yes that's an actual character). You'll get character powers called "stands" (basically a ghostly manifestation of their abilities) called Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chilli Pepper, Notorious B.I.G, Metallica, Whitesnake etc...HOWEVER, in English they end up having to change the names slightly (the names are the same in the Japanese sub though) so Black Sabbath becomes "Shadow Sabbath" and another stand name called "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" gets renamed to uhh..."Filthy acts at a reasonable price" haha Sometimes the names are small changes, sometimes they're really funny changes (Limp Bizkit to "Flaccid Pancake" is another funny change).

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to sit down and watch your videos. Your timing is crazy because I’ve fallen in love with JoJo in the last month! It’s an anime that’s spawned fighting games, and I think everyone can enjoy it if they like the artstyle. Heavy recommend, and the music from the anime AND the games are both awesome.

If this causes the Jojo fandom to descend upon your channel, I am so sorry. But also, not really. EMBRACE THE JOJO. JJBA is definitely an anime, but it's spawned a few videogames over time. It's two most recent games are an arena fighter and a traditional fighting game respectively (This theme comes from the arena fighter). I definitely plan on requesting a few more from the games if others don't, because it's full of hidden gems that deserve more recognition. Also, you nailed the Dio reference. Just to show how deep the music references go, there is a character in the series who is literally just called Vanilla Ice and one of the abilities is called Made in Heaven. So yeah, very much music inspired like Guilty Gear.

If you want to see how truly in depth JoJo's goes with its musical references, I recommend going to the wiki to the list of stands page and just reading their names. No need to deep dive into what they are or do unless it compels you to, just know that said stands are essentially manifestations of someone's will (a literal fighting spirit) and two stands battling is how combat usually goes in the series. And the references they are named after tie into them in some way, it's not simply because it sounds cool.

Yeah you definitely opened the flood gates with this one, Jojo's has some of the most recognizable and "all situations" music in Anime and Meme Culture. You've likely heard several parts of Jojo's Tracks and not even known it

I'd say Jojo takes the musical references a bit further than Gear does by virtue of more characterization being laid into the names used.

There's a lot of amazing songs in Eyes of Heaven and All-Star Battle (the other game that came before this). Esidisi's are both great, as is Diavolo's from ASB. The mangaka (the writer) loves western music and basically makes a lot of the character and their stands (the creatures next to people) based on all those bands, singers and songs. It's not even easter eggs. He's lucky he's in Japan otherwise he would probably get sued to hell. And yeah, DIO is basically the main bad guy of JoJo. His stand is also inspired Holy Diver, the Dio song and is made to look like a scuba diver.

For you specifically, all you need to know is that everything is a reference and everything is intentional.

JoJo is ALL about musical references. The series is essentially a generational story spanning from the 1800s to modern day, starting with a young noble named Jonathan Joestar (the first JoJo) who's life is turned upside down when a boy about his age named Dio Brando enters his life, as JoJo's father adopts him into the family. Dio, as time goes on, executes a plan to murder JoJo's father and usurp JoJo's fortune. At some point, he winds up finding this stone mask with mystical powers, and it turns him into a vampire, JoJo has to learn to fight against Dio using the power of hamon (or ripple, if you prefer) taught to him by a hamon master by the name of William Zeppeli. With the help and support of a street thug he gained the respect of by the name of Robert E.O. Speedwagon, JoJo manages to fight and defeat Dio, but that win is only temporary. I won't go too into details, there, but by the end of part 1, Jonathan is no more Part 2 (Battle Tendency) follows his grandson Joseph, who is fairly talented in hamon himself. I'm not gonna go too much into detail with explaining part 2, but essentially, Joseph fights against these powerful immortals called pillar men... I actually suggest watching through part 2, because this is where the series really starts ramping up. one of my favorite fights in the entire series is in part 2 (Wamuu) now I'm not gonna explain the series too much further, but I would be doing a disservice to explaining the series if I didn't at least give something of a summary of Part 3. Stardust Crusaders, as it is titled, follows Joseph's grandson, Jotaro Kujo, who is arguably one of the most important characters in the overall story. Jotaro one day winds up with this strange power. Frightened of it, he does something to get himself locked up, fearing he's possessed. This is basically where we come in. Jotaro, upon being confronted by his grandfather, accompanied by a man name Avdol, learns that this mysterious power is called a Stand, and learns of DIO. After his mother falls ill, and he learns that the only way to save her is by defeating DIO, so he travels to egypt to battle him. Stands become the main thing in the series from that point on, and while in part 3, the stand names are based on Tarot and the Egyptian gods, from part 4 on, stand names are musical references. and in a nutshell... that's JJBA

Jojo is an anime. A really great one at that. But it has games too. Like most anime.

To be clear, Jojo's bizzare adventure is an anime and this is just one of the few games that have been made for it.

It's not an anime, it's not a game, it's basically a bit of everything, a piece of fiction that exists in so many forms of media over the last 35 years it's incredible.
