I’m not entirely certain about Akechi but Joker was definitely a theatre kid back home. Only reason he isn’t in-game is because Shujin doesn’t seem to have a drama club and they wouldn’t let him join if it did.
I have a head canon that Akechi probably saw a musical once with his mum and never forgot it just so that they could be drama kids together. Sad that there wasn’t any drama clubs in shujin :(
@@hankhill7287 Not really. (SPOILERS) Even after you finish the game, if you open his confidant menu, it says "When will the other promise be fulfilled?..." or something like that. If you go to the jazz club, Akira/Ren says "My fight with Akechi isn't over yet".
This is also Akechi's canon English voice actor... and, funny enough, I was just thinking yesterday that Akechi would have a good singing voice, and then I stumbled across this.
I love how Crow is singing the high notes and hogging the spotlight while Joker sings the lower notes for the harmonies, vital yet not overly showy. It fits their characters perfectly and it just makes this all the more perfect. Also good lord you two have chords.
Honestly though, seeing Joker's animations and certain dialogue responses, you can't tell me that he doesn't love being Dramatic about as much as Akechi does.
honestly i’m glad because as good as xander mobus is, joker speaking in full dub sentences sounds really weird. probably cause xander goes for hot man instead of loser teenager
@@Pe3RLYT It's funny bc I actually met Xander recently, and it was hilarious to me, bc you have Joker's hot sexy manwhore voice, and then you see Xander and he's like this teenage looking dork with glasses who is the fucking nicest person on the planet.
After they finish singing, they reveal to be on a stage in an almost empty theater, with the rest of the Thieves sitting in their seats, absolutely baffled. Except for Yusuke, who just claps and gives them a standing ovation.
For those who aren't familiar with the source material: This song is the act 1 finale of a musical called "City of Angels". The plot involves parallel narratives of a writer (in this case, Joker) whose mystery novel is being adapted to film and the protagonist detective of his book (in this case, Akechi). This song them arguing over who is more responsible for the other's fame and success. The adaptation here is great if you don't know the context, but it's PHENOMENAL if you have the full context.
Thanks a lot for the context ! This musical sounds pretty interesting, I'll look it up, and this adaptation here makes it work so well. I really love that they chose this song, it's so catchy and works pretty well both in and out of context!
thanks for the info! I tried to look this musical up when it came out yesterday under "City of Angeles" as specified in the video, and got disappointed when nothing came up. must've been just a typo. I'll definitely be looking into listening to this musical.
@@JorianneFM You're correct! Joker sings the part of the writer in the first verse, but upon another listen, they swap their relative roles in the second verse!
Sad thing is, they're both right. Without Akechi the mental shutdown cases wouldn't have started, thus creating the Phantom Thieves. Without Joker, the need for his investigation into the Phantom Thieves wouldn't have brought him into the full spotlight of the media. Yes, Akechi was on the news before the Phantom Thieves, but his opinions of their actions is what fully sparked the public interest in him.
that's why this adaptation of the song goes great for it!! it's almost exactly like the original in their role case where the novelist wouldn't have fame if it wasn't for his protagonist, and the protagonist wouldn't have fame if the writer never created him 0-0 Robbie knew what he was doing when he chose this song to cover
Actually the phantom thieves didn’t even begin looking into the mental shutdowns. They were just changing peoples hearts for the better. komoshida maderame and kaneshiro were their first three targets. Even before the mental shutdown cases they were assholes who’s hearts were changed and gave the phantom thieves popularity.
@@ultimateqmazing2537 Akechi was the reason they became known worldwide and became so successful because of the Akechi vs phantom theives thing. Without Akechi they would have faded into obscurity. They kept going because of the fame
And when Akechi disappears... very few people *do* care. And when akechi disappears, very few people *do* seem to care about the phantom thieves. I totally agree. They’re both right.
@@whitenoiseleblanc3222 they should put Kasumi dancing to I Believe and a remix of Colors Flying High for Starlight and they should put Minako dancing to Wiping All Out and a remix of Pull the Trigger for Moonlight
if you havent seen the animation somebody made for this theres a part where Akechi walks away from joker and a wall comes up between them. wasnt ready to cry
Xander Mobius has so much range in his voice that it's honestly quite incredible. Joker, the smash announcer, and this number sound so drastically different that I'm still blown away by the fact that it's all the same guy.
I had a persona fusion accident once not during an alarm and it became shiki-ouji which ended up carrying me hard, especially against akechi since it's immune to everything he can throw out at me except his one almighty attack on both Robin Hood and Loki.
@@the_supern0va238 same but with a persona called abbodon (or something like that) it absorbed physical, guns and curse and resisted bless. Made the akechi fight a cakewalk.
i can just imagine the rest of the phantom thieves standing on the side just watching and being super confused because akira is never this cocky in front of them
“without me you’d just disappear right into thin air and no one would care or notice you ever were here” STFU THAT HITS SO MUCH HARDER AFTER THE THIRD SEMESTER
Not exactly the right place for this, but I just noticed that their glove and mask colors are reversed. I feel like the mask represents their true self and the gloves are their public image. Crow has a pure white image but a bloody true nature, while Joker is seen as a criminal but is actually a good person. Also the black eye lining could show that he accepts that he still has a dark side.
that makes sense since the thieves den conversation about arsene reveals that joker does view himself as an outlaw doing his own justice instead of like. a pure moral soul
Personally the whole eye situation I think is how it stands for being able to, as represented alot in the game, to see your true self. In this situation, everyone. Which refers to seeing your deep secrets revealed by mementos to rid of or have a change of heart.
"Is it Ren or is it Akira? Or do the player just sort of make it up?" Damn Crow, you really hit hard there. I know you're a bit unstable, but I didn't think you'd go for the kill that brutally.
@@emmad4308 '' Get out of here Pancakes boy, this is a waffles house! '' I like both, but I don't take them together (can only eat 1 big pokeball waffle xD or 2 pancakes)
I imagine the thieves gang is driving around in Mementos. Everyone is just sitting quietly, then all of a sudden Joker and Akechi just bust out into singing. And everyone else is just sitting there wondering what the heck they're doing.
@Kizu Matato then angrily yells at Futaba *"NO WAY AM I GONNA LET THEM FINISH. WE ARE HERE ON A MISSION, ITS NOT A MUSICAL. I SAY THAT WE **_KICK THE TSUNDERES_** OUT FOR BURSTING INTO SONG. Can we take a moment to talk about how great their voices are together? I enjoy the playful banter too! (And dayum Xander do be hitting them low notes 👀)
I might have to watch it again to beleive this isn’t a crazy fever dream from watching too much P5 content at once. If this isn’t a dream, I’d like to thank the RU-vid suggestion algorithm for sticking this in with the rest of the P5 soundtrack I’m crying
Fun Fact: Coincidentally, as Joker is roughly 2 years younger than Akechi, Xander Mobus, the voice the Joker, is almost 10 years younger than Robbie Daymond, the voice of Akechi. Meanwhile, Hiroki Ino, the actor who portrayed Joker in Persona 5: The Stage, is 5 years younger than Yoshihide Sasaki, the actor who portrayed Akechi in the same play. Meanwhile, Jun Fukuyama, the Japanese VA of Joker, is 6 years younger than Sōichirō Hoshi, the Japanese VA of Akechi. There is also something similar in their main Personas: Joker's Arsène is obviously younger in concept than Akechi's Robin Hood; Arsène Lupin first appeared in 1905, and Robin Hood is from the 13th-14th century. Meanwhile, their Ultimate Personas from Persona 5 Royal also have a great difference in age; Raoul, which is still Arsène Lupin's middle name, is the same aforementioned character, whilst Hereward is inspired by Hereward the Wake, an Anglo-Saxon nobleman and a leader of local resistance to the Norman Conquest of England who lived from 1035 to 1072. The only exception is Satanael and Loki, as Satanael is from Gnosticism, which first appeared in the 1st century AD, whilst the Norse Pantheon and its stories are first spoken of in as early as the 5th century, becoming popular from the 11th to 13th centuries. Overall, with the exception of the gods they represent, Akechi is always older than Joker in some way or another. Edit: Took me 5 minutes to do this. Both the typing and research. It's actually really easy in this context.
@@emilysmith5360 well, everything is debatable. After all, Joker’s birthday is technically changeable, isn’t it? He is a self-insert character after all.
@Nicholas Lau He’s got a bit of a personality going for him so he’s not a complete blank slate. Also if Joker were roughly two years younger than Akechi, that’d make him a first year…which he isn’t.
STOP IM CRYING THIS IS AMAZING THE “REN OR AKIRA” PART MADE ME LOSE IT I CANT BREATHEEEEEE I get musical broadway vibes from this where it’s two partners who can’t get along at first but then the relationship blooms between them eventually- like a reprise version of this later in the musical where they realize they actually do need each other and care a lot about each other and just mmMmmMmMMMMMM Also you don’t understand how much power you are giving me, an idol fan who’s also an artist and writer, over shuake when y’all can BOTH SING LIKE THIS

>I get musical broadway vibes from this That's because it is from musical broadway lol... it's from a musical called "City of Angels". For context, it's a scriptwriter arguing with his main character. The detective character is saying that the writer would be nothing without him, hence the "i'm your meal ticket" line, and the writer argues back that the character wouldn't exist if he hadn't written him in the first place.
ATLUS: Let's make a silent protagonist but he has a great VA who will never talk outside of one liners Me: Wouldn't It be nice If the protagonist evolved by interactions in the social links getting to not only knowing a little bit more about his friends and himself and also HE COULD TALK this video just proves my point
At the _very_ least have the protag voice the lines that we pick. I'm fine with protags not being very talkative, but when the rest of the cutscene is fully voiced and Joker's one or two lines are just silence, it really stands out. What, do they expect us to speak Joker's lines out loud while we're playing? No way I'm doing that.

Jamal Howourth well yeah but his parents could contact him off-screen, there is many things off-screen such as brushing your teeth, using toilet, waking up etc. They can call him or text him when we can’t see it. Or they really just do not care lol.
@@The_True_Dark_King "Joker's parents didn't call him or text they didn't even seem to care. But when he moved, he found people who care. Just to move back?" Reminds me of the end of 4. Weak men create hard times." I guess you just want the good times without the other parts of the cycle. A pity.
That's what I'm saying! The few times the game lets him be an actual character are so good, I have no idea why Atlus forced him to be a silent protagonist, such a waste of potential.
@@BillytheCorgi You somewhat countered yourself there. 'The few times the game lets him be an actual character are so good, I have no idea why Atlus forced him to be a silent protagonist'. A few times, he does speak, so he's not as silent as you claim him to be.

I call it the gayest gay relationship because oh my god they want to kiss each other so bad and the rivals to lovers archetype is an archetype very exclusive to gay/lesbian relationships
While singing in this song they just glare daggers and then after Joker's all like "Want to go to LeBlanc?" and Akechi's like "Yeah sure I'd love to have Coffee"
@@frisolaxod3835 …..I don’t necessarily disagree with you about their relationship, but rivals to lovers is a very common archetype across all relationships in fiction
