I usually try to find some cons to go along with the pros.. ru-vid.comUgkxnkYCgssg4ZO858cyBdD1JPEaUJ9Up1C_ but it really is a good knife. The blade sits centered in the handle when closed (photo added). It opens effortlessly. Unlocks and closes easily with one hand. It’s a great size for EDC. I wish this exact knife came in one of the premium steels to satisfy the knife snob in me.. but it’s a great tool at a great price as it is. Would buy again.

Great review of the Joker line of knives. The Ember was the one that really caught my eye. I think I would prefer micarta handles though. They seem to be more durable than wood and more comfortable than G-10. Keep up the good work.

Oof I really liked the Nesmuk but I dislike the sheath out of the bunch. I really like the square sheath shape on all the others. I like the square ends because they just make your blade less aggressive to carry and less “oh look at me” when others see it, which I think is actually pretty important for a knife your going to be carrying a lot

What's the big deal about rods why doesn't anyone just carry a lighter?
@TheDaveDryden
@TheDaveDryden 2 месяца назад
I often use a lighter in recent videos, I recommend having both. Ferro rods are very hard to break and 100% waterproof. They also "look cool" and are more "bushcrafty" lol. Lighters are the better tool overall for firemaking though.

That was a well thought out and informative review, I appreciated the candid opinions, both positive and constructive. I have a couple Joker knives and will be picking up a Campero today. My experience with the 14C28M has been outstanding, it holds a great edge and is easy enough to keep that way. I am not as familiar with the 695 steel on the Nomad, but the knife intrigues me. I look forward to your long term thoughts.
@TheDaveDryden
@TheDaveDryden 2 года назад
14c28n is a favorite of mine for budget steels and n695 is very similar. In the field you won't notice a difference. People get snobby fast on steel when the design of the knife is usually more important. I do notice a difference between these steels and 8cr13mov/AUS8. But again it just means a little more sharpening and usually isn't a big deal. ✌️
@greekveteran2715
@greekveteran2715 2 года назад
N695 stainless steel holds it's edge way longer than 14c28n, however it's nowhere near as tough as 14c28n is! On the downside, N695 takes longer to sharpen and it's edge can chip way easier, than the edge on the 14c28n, (which will probably never chip because it's softer and a lot tougher!) If you got the scandi edge version, then you'r lucky it comes with that steel on it. There are not to many steels, that can work with a scandi edge because scandi edges are very fragile (easy to take damage even with normal use, their edges take chips or rolls) Sandvik steels, like yours, 12c27, AEB-L and ballbearing steel like 52100, are some of the best, if not THE best steels for a scnadi edge knife. Enjoy!!

Problem with the bone handle is if you drop it on a hard surface as a rock or cement.....it can Crack or get damaged.....and you end up with a useless knife.....something that will not happen with wood or micarta.

The 6.5nomad has been on my radar since coming out for sure! the nordico is very similar thickness though a touch smaller overall to the lars falt. lars falt probably has I slightly nicer leather quality in its sheath too. I ended up regrinding the nordico to a higher scandi grind and it performs even better now, for me the 4mm thick scandi is a touch obtuse for woodcraft. thanks for watching!

Hi Dave, If possible and if you still have the knives, can you try and take them all and hold up in the light and check the gap between liner and blade? I have 6 jokers and only 2 of them is good, the others have pretty big gaps between liner/blade/handle. Its frustrating as I really like the knifes 😊 Have a nice day, Anders I have 6 knives from joker,
@TheDaveDryden
@TheDaveDryden 5 месяцев назад
all mine are good, if you got some gaps going on you can always get some epoxy and spread it over/in it to seal it up, lightly sand it afterwards. Ive had handles peel from other knives before and that worked, but not the jokers.

I've been drawn towards the casstrom woodsman for bushcraft. Do Joker do an equivalent? Thanks
@TheDaveDryden
@TheDaveDryden 2 месяца назад
not really, the joker nordico is probably the closest. imo 4mm is a little bit thick for a normal scandi grind, even the jokers at 3.7mm perform better with a higher grind. I reground the nordico to a higher scandi and the performance difference is noticeable for carving tasks. 2-3mm for a scandi is optimal, 3.5mm is my limit. Cheers good luck!

So, I’m thinking the Nomad and Ember or Nomad and Nesmuk will be all I need after the Lionsteel T5??? Yeah, I’m late to the party and I have had some knives in the past, but I’m really just starting this knife life adventure and I started with folding knives, Manix 2XL, Gail Bradley 2, para 2, super freak, blue and grey Griptillian, 940-2, bugout, Contego, Blur… and a couple of others thrown in for fun!!! But I’m just looking at the fixed blade selection and it’s huge and super exciting to start!!! I’ve had my Buck 119 and other starter knives like that since a kid, but I was astonished to see how many are now available and the quality for dollars… compared to folders, I think it’s ridiculous the prices they’re charging for some folders, price gouging. B😢hey, market reflects what people are willing to pay… they, the makers know it’s a bull market for them now with so many people entering the hobby. Anyway, Thanx for sharing… I just noticed the Nomad the other day when I did a fixed blade knife search on eBay. Nice knife compared with Kabar Beckers cuz you don’t need to buy aftermarket Micarta scales. Lionsteel T5, Joker Nomad & Ember or Nomad & Nesmuck, and I’m also thinking Esee 5 & 6 The 5 for the beast it is and the 6 for the flat grind all around…

my personal favorite is the campero with the nomad close behind, for very different reasons. There isn't a wrong choice, just whether you want a beefy harder use knife or a more elegant camp knife. If I was lost in the woods I would want the nomad for example, it is also better at wood processing, batoning, light chopping etc. But if you have an axe, the axe is better at that stuff so the campero becomes a better choice. Apples and oranges my friend

Hello my name is _________, and I'm from "UTube channel name". I'm here to talk about a brand of sporting knives, one in particular called "Joker". The "Joker" brand of knives is a world renowned Spanish company that makes traditional handcrafted sporting knives. These knives have a full stainless steel Tang with micarta handle. Some of the handles are equipped with a lanyard hole and or lanyard. Lanyard could be placed around your wrist in case you slip you don't lose your knife somewhere down a mountainside. You could also find many uses for that lanyard. Some of the knives have different kinds of notches which actually have a function. For example some notches have a gut hook when you're cleaning your prey. Some of these notches are a dual rest for your forefinger and a designated stopping point for the sharp edge. One side is called a finger choil any other are sharpening choil. Yeah I think it's best that when you do a review you understand the Dynamics of knives. It's not how they look cool it's their function, how they're made, and their purpose. It's also nice that you let someone know what it's made out of the length of the blade, how much it weighs whether it's full Tang or not. Instead of pounding on these like a caveman.

Terrano is more robust at 4mil thick, longer blade, n690 holds an edge longer but is less tough, the handle is slimmer, sheath is slightly better. I like the overall design of the Campero more though. It's a tough choice honestly so I think it depends on what size you are after

The Ember F in full flat grind is their best knife. Next is the Nomad (more edge retention, however edge may take small chips) Ember in full lfat grind, may not have the longest edge retention, however it's still very decent on that department and doesn't lack anything else! In Europe. at that price range, only Manly knives, make better blades, but their handles are thiner, which is better for food prep and general utility, but bad for working on wood.
@Flockingtheherd
@Flockingtheherd 2 года назад
Hmm I don’t know what your talking about. They’re selection is actually quite small, only about 12 styles. But they offer several variants of blade steels, handles, and grinds for each type which is nice. Now there’s companies like cold steel or spyderco that literally has thousands of different blades with different variants. So yes, I would consider this a vastly small selection for a blade company

It's amazing how many companies keep coming out with Nessmuk knives aimed at Bushcraft. Nessmuk is a skinner and game processing knife, that's the entire point of the shape. That's why he had his Nessmuk Trio. But since Bushcraft is all the rage, mostly with people who don't know WTF they're doing, they get sold stupid creations like scandi and saber Nessmuk style knives because "they look cool".

@Swearengen1980
@Swearengen1980 3 месяца назад
@@Hadrada. No, I consider it 100% useless. Scandi isn't necessary to begin with if you have skill. A scandi has 1 use - wood work. It's crap at every other task. So what use could you possible come up with for taking a Nessmuk blade meant specifically for skinning game and putting a wood working grind on it? Wood work and skinning couldn't be more polar opposite uses. Scandi is meant to bite into the wood, which is what you don't want when skinning, especially if you want to brain tan your hide. If you only know Nessmuk as a blade shape, then you seriously need to look up George W. Sears, aka Nessmuk, and read about him and/or his writings (Woodcraft and Camping, at least)

@@ShoahBiz I do not have any social media, I'm old school. I stay away from it because I view it as poison to humanity. I've been blessed beyond measure in this life and in a lot of places where I spend my money I operate off the philosophy of don't make perfect the enemy of the good and I will comprise, however, I have a few areas where I strictly operate off of No Compromise. The full tang thing is one of those. I put out 5,000lbs of feed corn yesterday, by hand in 50lb bags, 1 bag at time, most of which had to be walked in 80 yards or so due to feeder location. My hands are plenty strong an ounce of weight on a knife or perhaps 2 or 3 ounces even, doesn't bother me in the least. I'll gladly take the extra "weight" to know the tang on my fixed blade hasn't been made to look like swiss cheese. I appreciate the offer of the video, very kind of you. Take Care

Those woods look like my woods. PNW??? Great review mate. I bought the Nessmuk with the walnut handles and its fast becoming my absolute favorite camp knife despite a not-insignifigant collection of nice knives from ESSEE, Tops and Bradford. I only wish they had a micarta option since I'm also in the went PNW. Worst case scenario I'll make my own Micarta scales.

@@TheDaveDryden Jokers are way better than Condors, both in materials, fit and finish and overall quality. Condor is super budget level, worse than 10$ Moras. Jokers are better than Moras, close to middle of the road knives with great if not perfect fit and finish for their prices. (Most Spanish knives, like Nieto, Joker and Muela, all come with absolutely crazy fit and finish, plus perfect heat treatments on their steels, only downside, is the fact they only use low grade steels) A bit underated knives, Joker desings are more clever, and they use a bit better steels than the rest Spanish makers too, which made the Spanish knives quality. more familiar all over the world the later years!

I used to search for the perfect knife for me for decades... The result is, there is no perfect knife out there. They all will lack something or 2 or more. That being said, there are some knives, that I feel are the BEST I've used. Those are: (Manly Patriot in CPM154, perfect EDC,foodprep general utility knife) . (Lionsteel M4 general utility outdoors knife). (TRC Knives Mille Cuori Best combat knife, soldiers knife, does it all except chopping and performs great at all! Super special knife!) (Survive Knives GSO 4.7 similar as the Mille Cuori, not the perfect steel that the Mille Cuori has, but not very far either) ( LT Wright Genesis and almost anything they do!) (Bark River Bravo 1 LT Cruwear/Gunny versions too, just check them before getting them, not the quality they used to have anymore..) (Any Morakniv....Kansbol/2000 for general use, Bushcraft Black for Bushcraft/fire knife) (Falkniven F1/S1/A1 preferably in COS steel) IF you want a better knife than any of these, then take some time to think of your personal preferences, and then find one of the hundreds custom makers out there, to ask him to make you your DREAM knife!!! Stay sharp and always carry bandages!!!

That Nordico red leather sheath looks amazing. I wonder if I can fit any other knives in it. I just got my Campero today. Super comfortable in hand, and a keen edge. I love their ferro rods with the handles matching the knives. The fit and finish i flawless and the prices are unbeatable. The Nomad has been out of stock for months, I am still waiting for it. The Lynx is also a good choice. They are also going to release a new Nomad with longer blade.
