Another year, another big pile of watches in a couple of boxes. Ooops! I have thinned out a bit, maybe a few less Casios than last year. Still managed 7 of the things though! A few new pieces including a slightly disappointing vintage Omega. How many will last the course of 2019? We shall see.... Cheers, JOMW.

I'm glad you showed your grandfather's watch. My favorite watches are the ones that were my father's or were given to me by my family. I had to explain to a jeweler that I didn't care that it would cost more to fix my father's 50's Lord Elgin Clubman than it was worth because it was worth more to me because it was his.

Thanks Jody! This gives me a much better feel for where you’re coming from, in terms of what you personally like. I love your Navitimer and Aqua Terra, and after adding the Ginault I’d already have difficulty finding the time to wear anything else. I also love your seven Casios - that is so totally a watch nut collection to have! I only have one Casio G shock, but I wear it all the time, often instead of fancier things - it’s just so light weight, robust and functional, there’s no beating it for what it does well. Meanwhile, I have a Colt Chronograph that your Navi reminds me of, and I picked up an Oris Aquis this year that is a cousin of your Oris 65. So maybe I’m a long-lost brother of yours, horologically speaking? Anyway, my priority over the next year or two is an Omega, though have not yet decided which. I fully get where you are coming from with the Nomos, though. Someday for me, perhaps. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas holiday and happy new year!

Heading straight to Amazon to buy a Casio. I was never drawn to the style, but a lot of my friends in school wore it. It's been 4 years since I finished school, so I guess it's not too late to make up for it. Thanks, Jody, this vid changed my view about the vintage digital Casio. Looking forward to enjoying it. Nice collection. I did my digital collection piece with a Tissot T-Touch solar. It's a little on the big side, 45mm, but it wears well due to flat profile. I like all the functions, and it's an analog and digital compo. Priced under 1,000$ US

Nice selection👍. I didn’t consider myself a watch collector and in my mind only had a “few lying around”.. Then I bought a 12 slot watch case and after pulling watches out of drawers , the attic and a bin of my dads things... I need another case. My #1... a panda style chrono by Wakmann. I got it when I was a kid in the 1970’s and somehow it survived😁

Great and very varied collection. Have you checked whether the omega is running fast because it has been magnetised. If a watch is running very very fast it may be because the mainspring is sticking together. Sometimes this is just because it has been magnetised. This can be sorted with a cheap demagnetiser from eBay. It may just need a service though.
@MrJamesDuffy
@MrJamesDuffy 5 лет назад
Fast better than slow. My first guess would be a magnetized watch, too. Pass the watch over a simple magnetic compass at various approach angles to see if the needle moves to check. My second guess would be the hairspring overcoiling (overlapping) or a bit of schmutz obstructing its motion. If that is is the case, try placing the watch dial down in your hand and giving the case back a few firm but not strong flat pats with your other hand.

@jasoncousins8689
@jasoncousins8689 5 лет назад
Your vintage omega may be magnetised, do you own a simple compass? If so put it against your watch and if it draws the needle then it is. A decent jeweller or watch boutique will fix it for you. My Bremont was running fast, the salesman in the Bremont boutique showed me the compass trick, took my watch in the back for a few minutes and its been fine ever since! 👍

Really enjoy the SOTC videos hopefully you will continue to do them. It made me check out my full collection and I'm up to 15 with 4 casio (1 G shock). Admittedly there is a few in there that I purchased after watching your videos. The only thing really missing is a vintage piece and a real luxury piece. None of my watches have cost over £500 my quarts Certina Ds action precidrive being my most expensive. So hopefully next year I am going to add either a vintage seamaster or a Seiko Pogue for my vintage piece and the Speedmaster Professional as my luxury piece to finish off my collection.

Very much looking forward to your subby comparison video coming. I'm currently in a bit of an awkward divers position. Bought an SKX007 last year and put a Strapcode oyster on it. Have enjoyed it, and was considering going down the ceramic bezel and sapphire route.....but started to feel the watch was just a little too big. Picked up a 20-year-old, well patinaed, dare I say vintage, SKX013 to see if I prefer the size. Maybe a fraction too small? I'm thinking a 38-40mm sapphire+ceramic subby homage will be in my near future....

Awesome SOTC! Love the watches from your relations, Gramps, Dad and the wife! You won’t regret JDM Seiko- I started last year collecting JDM Seiko with the 6R15 movement- I have a Sarb033, an 017, and an 065 as well as a Gen 3 SZSC003 Monster. Can’t wait to see what you’ve started out with. We share an interest in cheap Casio in fact I got my silver Casio Royale after watching your review back in the day. Surprised you haven’t a G-Shock Square. I have a Tough Solar GW-M5610BC-1JF with the composite bracelet I love. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

Thanks for the love- along with the JDM G-Shock Square I have the silver Casio Royale, the resin version of your calculator watch, and a silver with tan face A158 WE. Finally my wife gave me a F-91W for Christmas. I think that qualifies me as reasonably well-wed. My personal grail (these things are relative) would be a new Speedmaster Pro MOTM. At the moment it’s that or a trip for two to Japan later this year for a milestone B-day.
