I love this song. So beautiful. His kids voices in the studio version always brings a smile to my heart. Chris may own the name but IMO, it's Jon that carries the true spirit of Yes.
We saw him about this time in a small club in saint Pete Florida He played this album And about a 1/2 dozen yes songs. After the show he signed autographs and was handing out roses to the ladies super cool guy.
Jules Phoenix This song saved my life from dying from drug addiction whilst I was in the army in the Mohave desert. I totally empathize with you. Some are Born as well.
This is one of the most incredible, wonderful, marvelous song of Jon. When I was young man, almost suicide, but suddenly song of seven appear in my radio and stopped. Now Im 55 old, I was travelling different places, met differente people, love and come back to my places and hear its song again, is so incredible for me. Thank so much. Armando from Mérida, México
Great video. This Song of Seven cassette tape was a sustaining force for me as a new recruit in the Navy in 1981 as I was stationed in Orlando, Fla. When others were listening to Black Sabbath I had my Jon Anderson cassette. Very moving music.
Not bad for a wee lad from Acrington,U.K...that started in a skiffle band...God bless you Jon for wonderous music, that I and many others will hope that one day,it (your music) will be appreciated by the masses..god bless you ..
A transformative piece. Deep joy. My dream duo would be Jon and Iasos right now. Just need the harmonic peace and vibrational realignment. Thank you for this music.
The story about this song is amazing. I've read before that the backing vocals are his children and you can hear here that those sweet voices are a recorded vocal track for the live performance. Listen carefully. the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Thank you all for your kind comments. I got this footage a very long time ago through trading. I´m greatful of YoutTube to be able to share this with you. I get many request sending the original tape. This won´t happen, only Jon himself I would gladly send it to.
God, I wish I could go back 40, 50 years. Jon’s voice was stellar. Now in 2024, I choose to forgo his tour due to his diminished voice. Jon, you were the best, my heart.
Wow...I remember this song and album when I was in high school or maybe just starting college...what a great song...great lyrics...great melody. Easily, Jon Anderson is one of the world's greatest vocalists.
this is from 1980 live, raw and behind in techno what do people want im priviliged just to see it its fantastic had tickets for this gig in liverpool and it was cancelled so after all this time this makes up just a little....hurry home jon
Thank you for posting this! It's very 'Yessy' - I can hear strains of Yes songs throughout - some awful, some awesome, as ever (Yes fans will know what I mean). So thank you, Jon Anderson, for being such a wonderful musician and poet, and for bringing breath-taking music to all of us who wanted to hear something different.
I knew the Jon Anderson music before I met Yes. I was 14 when I heard this song and others from Jon for the first time . I remember well that I thought : "looks like an angel singing." These songs made me dream of a perfect world, where people could live in peace and love was our only goal ... So naive. Well, it has been almost 30 years and now I see that they were only dreams of an angel. The goals of humans are different. And I feel sad too. But I keep dreaming.
WOW! I am speechless. If this concert ever comes out on DVD (or CD needless to say) I will buy it - he is in perfect voice, I just love this album, and of course this track was the crescendo ending piece to the full set. *gasp* falling over in a trance :)
Sang this song and won choral awards when I was 13 in 83. It's wonderful it was perfect to sing. Lucky back then my falsetto was as near perfect as Jon's with vocal training and all. I love to sing to his songs. This was a great solo album for him as well.
Can't say thanks enough for posting. This is probably the best song he did solo. The guitar playing just lets it down - not upto the standard of the album, Jon has the voice of no other - amazing
For me it's his best solo work. I remember clearly seeing this on German TV: "On 12 November Eberhard Schoener presented his Rock & Classic concert at Munich's Circus Krone Building. TV stations of 16 countries were connected when Schoener opened a six-hour concert presented on two stages. On the upper the rock musicians and their equipment, on the lower the Munich Chamber Opera Orchestra again."
One of the many moving moments that Jon has brought us over years. This song never fails to evoke strong emotions in me. I wonder what Yes might have done with it? Thanks Jon. Beautiful soul.
Thank you Klaatusuit for posting this jewel!! Funny, I´ve been listening the entire CD containing this song, over and over during the last three days while driving my car. Regards from Argentina and see you at the World Cup Final, hahahaha.....
I've loved this album and song since it came out, This song holds it's own with the best music he did with Yes, I've Never seen this live performance before Thanks
Dude! You are awesome! Thanks for posting, man. I love Jon's early solo stuff. Saw the Animation tour in 198?. Great show. Found some audio on it, but never thought I'd see any video from that period.
Cool that they got to do this with an orchestra, although Jon's not particularly in tune. I wonder if he wasn't feeling well, because he's also a bit subdued in the OGWT taping not long after.
indeed, what a great song, and what Yes could have done to it, perhaps in Paris, 79 ... I hope, this show (Sheffield?) will come out on DVD some fine day...
Isn´t amazing seeing Jon´s new material from the past. Unique voice, I hope he get well soon enough to tour still this year. Thank you for this great one.
I hated Yes for Jon leaving. I hated Jon for leaving Yes. Then there was: Song of Seven. An album I could not have hoped for. A romantic Yes. A fabulous backing band, tight as a symphonic stocking. Jon felt & sang totally reassured. We all held our hearts on high. Jon kicked it off, and went on to establish his ability as a single-songwriter-and-performer with 'Animation'. Then came 90125. The rest is history.
How can you hate him he did not leave he was thrown out ego's play such a great part its Howie's ego to me White is not the true drummer of Yes its Buford and the keyboard player is just a buggel great with Asia but to me never made it with the true Yes
@@johnwitt9743 I was talking about the 1979 situation, some time before Jon released 'Song of Seven'. NOT about the 2008 situation, when Jon was - like you say - thrown out, or left behind. That was terrible, and indeed a battle of ego's. It is not all 'spiritual peace' as far as YES is concerned.
@@johnwitt9743John and Rick left Yes in 1979 and then both again in 2004, Jon wanted to go and do some solo concerts, touring the world with his wife, which he continued to do right to the end of 2007, which put a strain on his health and almost caused him to die. Yes had made plans for their 40th Anniversary tours, which was in 2008, with Jon being ill he was not able to do the tours and the band didn’t want to cancel the tours. I think Rick found something to moan about too, so they got Ricks son Oliver to play keyboards and discovered a singer, in a tribute band called Benoit David and asked him to join them. The band thought that Jon would return when he had recovered. A couple of years later, Chris and Jon were in talks about Jon returning and it turned out, that, with his wife as his manger, the deal put to Chris was that Jon would return for 50% of the profits……..hence Chris told him to F . . . OFF! Just thought you hadn’t heard about that and thought you ought to be put right. 👍
It's been a while since I have heard this, this is one of my favorite Jon songs! I'm remembering the first time I heard this song. I fell in love with it right away, the lyrics and melody. WOW! Where did this come from? Not as good as the original, the sound doesn't do it justice, but a great song!
Oops, that not entirely true. I think I sent Chris Harley the master once. Or a copy, I can´t remember. But be sure Chris has this particular video. He liked it too.
At 4:59 in the background you can make out the word "krone" . As far as the letters before and after, as best as I can make out it's something like "...scus krone bal...". Maybe this is a hint at what venue this was recorded at? (Doesn't mean a thing to me!) Was this the second time Jon performed with an orchestra?
Hello all, any opportunity to have a copy of the full length concert (vhs or dvd)? I'm interested to it especially for the presence of Ian Bairnson (guitar), Chris Rainbow (keys & vocals), Eberhard Schoener and the brief promo by Alan Parsons & Eric Woolfson. Thank you in advance!
Just a request: Can Someone PLEASE post the studio version of this song??? I know it's just over 11 minutes, so it may be too long for a single post on RU-vid. But HEY, I don't mind if it's in 2 parts. PLEEAASSEE?
@tiffo57 Thank you for your response. I have the CD as well, but sadly I'm not very "posting savvy" myself ! I should have clarified my earlier request by saying that I hope someone could post the studio version with some cool visuals to go along with the song. Sorry about that.
A dreamer, a searcher, a believer... a fool... in stylish jacket and matching laser-thin necktie! EQ-ed this could be quite good. Wonder if Jon is, (like Steve... he and Patrick doing Beginnings) trying to track down a good copy of this? Wonder if he even remembers it? "...Get this house in order!"
He sang upper register on Heart of the Sunrise, but you're right, most of it is his lower register. ....Actually, his true secret, is that he's actually a Hobbit....a really tall one.
Probably my favorite of Jon's solo songs. Of course the reocrding is very rough and does it no justice but but the performance itself is a bit flawed. It is slightly rushed, and he is actually out of tune on a couple of notes. Really unlike Jon. Totally agree, David Watkinson, I would Love to see this performed or recorded by Yes,
