to be honest, I would of offered the host a taste of it before going forward, but you could absolutely be right on the fact that this was a special request of the lady. if I felt any confusion in a restaurant or business setting, I would simply ask who would prefer to taste.@Spencer Raz
He treated him as the host of the table, who is always served last, after his guests. And a sommelier is expected to have at least a basic knowledge of most beverages, such as cocktails, spirits, but also tea and coffee etc.
