I was 17 years old when the Moscow peace festival took place and thought it was so cool because I was and still am a huge fan of all those bands that played there. I knew Doc McGee had to do this festival and I remember reading that Jon wrote a letter to the judge in Doc’s behalf. The 80’s were the best🤘🏼

Yeah, that was the Moscow Peace Festival 1989. Ozzy, Scorpions, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Cinderella, Skid Row, and Gorky Park. This event saved Doc McGhee.

@@EugeneBorzov Jon didn't go into detail, but when he said he went to Russia in the snow, it was during the press conference to announce the concert, not perform. And Doc can deny it all he wants, but facts are facts.

He’s not my favorite but I’ll be damned if the dude isn’t completely earnest in all he does. I mean for Chrissakes, the dude owns a restaurant that LITERALLY is pay-what-you-can/want. He doesn’t need money, he’s set for life. So he gives back. And that’s who this guy is, he’s always been the guy who gives back.

@jasonl1942 That's not why he runs the restaurants. It's to feed people in need with dignity. They pay or they help out in the kitchen if they have no money. It is Dorothea's idea and they have helped many in desperate need and lost some who were too lost. They have also started up a program to feed hungry university students.

That story about the Moscow Music Peace Festival has been floating around forever and as far as I know, was an urban legend until JBJ told it here. The best part? The festival was supposed to promote peace and NOT doing drugs. 🤣

I have always loved this band. Also loved the year the insult dog got them. And there success of selling out stadiums. And how scary to play in the original Russia while your manager is stuffing the plane with drugs. Party like a rock star.

"if you even thought of having an album as We Knew It you would be imprisoned there" - what a bullshit!? Who lied him this nonsense?! In the USSR, western rock albums were not sold, BUT they were there - thanks to sailors, tourists, etc. And no one was imprisoned for owning these albums!

No way he can belt out any of his songs. They'll be using backing tracks live from here on out. If you see him singing it will be prerecorded and with lots of autotune for the low parts he croaks out. How do I know. Even bar bands these days are using prerecorded/autotune. No such thing as live any more

Jon and Conan conflate images of different periods in the history of the USSR and Russia. The Soviet Union in 1989, four years after perestroika started, is quite different, almost opposite from the 1940-50s or 1970s and eveb from early 1980s. Western bands and films were NOT banned anymore, everybody could listen avd watch anything tvat could get hold of. Everything changes in Russia in a decade, but nothing does in a hundred years.

I like Bon Jovi’s music and Jon is a great philanthropist, which I really admire about him. However, my best friend LOVED Jon when we were in high school and beyond (I was the Prince fan and still am). I can’t hear a song by Bon Jovi or hear anything about the band without thinking about my friend.

As we can see now, the Soviet Union never disintegrated, but was simply reborn as a Russia that feigned the simplicity of democracy in order to gather its strength and start what it does best: WAR And it did not start in Syria in 2015, not in Ukraine in 2014 and not even in Georgia in 2008 Russia started a war back in 1991 in Moldova, and then in 1993 in Chechnya, etc. And practically all Russians supported these wars, and now the majority of Russians support Putin and the war in Ukraine THIS IS A FACT As long as the West lives its dreams and believes that everyone is capable of change, it has every chance to simply disappear in every sense of the word. Then EVERYONE in the world will live the way they lived in the Soviet Union, and that's if they're lucky

I dont agree with the last part with the violence war back thing. I wouldn’t give a ish of living their way, its not that bad n I feel that theyre not really lying on their lifestyle being what it was before Ukraine. Poor Conan loses any decorum of class, integrity, and sincerity when he interviews JBJ who defines integrity, class and sincerity. And for the record, Jon’s wife of 40 years is Dorothea, not Dorothy.
