I can understand the crowd being a bit passive. Listening to this i'm not sure wheter i wanna dance to it or lie down, close my eyes and let my mind wander. I guess that abivalence is reflected in the crowd. Doesn't mean they weren't loving it. It's just a bit too cerebral for mindless partying. I think they were just paying attention.
Jeff Mills is clear for me out of everyone I've seen. Also without equal. I finally get the chance to see Jon next July and I couldn't be more excited!!
@@johnsmithjnr9628 That's because Jon produced the song for Coldplay, along with many others from that time. "The Escapist" is basically a shortened version of this song "Light Through the Veins"

What an amazing artist...every boiler room I watch there are comments about either the crowd not dancing enough, criticism about how people are dressed...who cares how you're dressed or if they just want to stand, what matters is that people enjoy the music and appreciate the genuine beats created by someone....
@@juanmartinmujicabuj7481 all he's using them for is effects, the tracks play through ableton so if he stood away and did nothing at all,his full set would just play by itself,I'm the biggest fan of hopkins ever,iv seen him 6 times and Im a music producer also so I can see what he's doing,he's just using effects to change the tracks a small bit and it keeps his hands busy to put on the performance.his performances now are alot more engaging but the way he used to play live like here for example,he's basically just putting on an act but that's fair enough cos his tracks are epic and he was more of a producer than a live performer so it took a few years for him to get used to the whole playing live thing.and I know he's putting on an act because when I started playing live first,I used kaospads and launchpads the same way,to just change the tracks with effects and trigger in consequential parts of tracks, basically to just be doing something
@@user-sk4wf3ve6z True that, but at leatst from what I've seen from the KEXP performance, he uses them very creatively. At parts it does sound a bit random, but some fills and filtering of his were impressive. I like the twist he puts on the music through them. It is impressive.
Solomun gets twelve million views for a set he put together at home and can not even clap his hands in time with when 'performing live' and this has a little over half a million views, funny old world! This and David August, my two fave Boiler Room sets by far, such talent from them both.
Now that is what I call a live performance. On the fly improvisation in perfect time and theme of the underlying tracks backbeat. Jon Hopkins is indeed a modern master of his craft and has put out some of the most enthralling electronic music I've heard to date. Can't wait to hear what's to come in his portfolio.
He's just unreal. I saw him for the first time at Festival Six, just wonderful, such a small tent and so intense, Truly one of the most talented music makers.
Last Friday when he played at Mutek here in Mexico, all the people at the front (including me) just got crazy! Especially with that extreme powerful live version of Insides, way heavier and minimalistic than the one played in this video. Jon transmits such an overwhelming vibe when he plays, indescribable!
That is... 45 minutes of beauty made by a visibly good person is something rare, the stuff that you see a very few time in life. The most respect from someone in Florence.
I remember, I started to listen to Jon Hopkins when I was maybe 17. "Cold Out There" was always on repeat either I was sad or happy. I even used to create short movies, download his music and put it as a soundtrack. A week ago, I went to his live DJ set in Rome for the first time... I danced all the concert NON STOP and it felt like.. I am FLYING. No drug can compare to the music of Jon Hopkins.
I rarely comment, but this needs to be said: That was totally f*cking mind blowing. I put it on straight away for a 2nd time, then a 3rd. I can't remember ever wanting to play another set back to back like that. I only ever had that feeling before when I watched Matrix. Love and gratitude to you Jon.
This mix is so amazing.. Jon Hopkins has been a musical idol of mine for years, and idk why, but for some reason seeing this mix made me more excited than any other one of his I've seen.. I just couldn't help but smile the entire time watching someone I look up to so much in action, so in the zone, and precise.. I really wish I could have been there so he could look up and be assured that at least somebody in that seemingly dead audience truly appreciated his art...
For the people leaving negative remarks about people 'not dancing hard enough'.. It's about self-expression and there's a ton of variables that influences someone's way of expressing themselves. Mood, music, crowd, location, alcohol and other substances, recent experiences.. It's easy for these RU-vid trolls to judge someone who's standing in the corner with their beer -- but what they don't see is what's going on inside. Maybe that person's enjoying the music even more than the guy going apeshit near the DJ booth. TL;DR -- you don't know shit about those people, don't judge.
Man i love "light through the veins". Such an extremely strong track. It makes me feel so calm, warm, like wrapped in a blanket of music, safe.. at least the normal version. This one here is a bit too clubby for that effect. Still love both tough..
People may be criticising the crowd for not dancing, but someone please tell me how you dance to this? I like the music, but if i was there I think id be simply admiring the masterclass on display, Im not sure how I’d dance to this.
A musical genius at work, right before their very eyes. I'd be damn speechless just standing next to Jon, let alone standing next to him and watching build a song from the ground up!
Man, why so negative? So many comments here are either angry at the crowd or angry at the comments. This is chill, hypnotic music, if you're angry listen a little more closely and groove. d-.-b
tLFx4x5x6 Hahahah! She sure does... I think she's trying to get her hair to stay out of her face. Also a bit cheeky that she shoves her drink right up next to Jon's!
lHighHopesI Yes thankyou! The music is incredible but unless you've got a '4 on the floor' kick drum booming out at low frequency you won't get people on a roll dancing to it. I think they were pretty receptive looking at the end. I still think it's great that he plays these venues though.
Edward Blackburn come on there isn't! You know what a 4/4 kick is right? The only track that has a consistent 4/4 kick is light through the veins. And even then he rolls off the lows for a decent part of that. There's a reason club music has evolved to be four on the floor with the lows going down to 50hz and lower..it makes people move.. that doesn't detract from the music but a club audience is there to feel the music at a physical level and respond to it physically more than emotionally or cerebrally..
One of the most interesting perfromer to watch. As said in the description - using his gear to it's full potential!

This set is amazing. The only thing that bugs me a lot is screen which is really out of context all the time and sometimes is really annoying. Why they can't also use visual artists i wonder?
I've been coming back to this set semi-regularly since it's release...love the entire piece...especially @ 34:00...my favorite version of Light Through The Veins...
