They reminded me of two brothers. And they were. Pat and Jon were inseparable at the convention. The only time I recall them being apart was when Jon did the cabaret act and Patrick sat outside in the lobby reading storybooks to children while their parents went in to watch the cabaret performance.
and in the anniversary show jon called patrick a scarecrow meaning the worzel was gonna take patrick and become the doctor yes its a comic book story but weird
I paid $100 for the three day pass, which was considered insane at the time. It was worth every penny. I could write a book on all the good times I had at this convention. I never had such fun in my life. And the actors were right out there just like you were; walking down the halls, riding on the elevators and taking breaks sitting in the hotel lobby. You’ll never see anything like this again.
Imagine being someone who watched the show and could loosely be described as a fan (Peter Davison), now being caught between two warring (all in fun) Doctors! How would you feel??
As I understand it, the rivalry between the 2nd and 3rd Doctors started in the tenth anniversary. Pertwee was the kind of actor who would strictly stick to the script. Whereas Troughton was prone to improving lines. This led to friction between the two, which seems - thanks to both of them being willing to give and take a joke - to have manifested as an endless barrage of rib poking.
Patrick was prone to forgetting his lines. And there was never a true rivalry between them. They knew each other while serving in the Navy during WWII. Jon was always a great risk taker, Patrick not so much. Their personalities clashed but in a friendly way, with Jon always coaxing Patrick to come out of shell and try new things. Jon convinced Patrick to do the Chicago convention. Pat did not want to come because we did not know his Doctor in America and he felt he would not be welcome. Jon said it was ridiculous and it was; we adored Patrick and still do.
@@lakecountynaturalist7617 Cheers, I didn't know that. I have seen several of Troughton's other films and TV works throughout the years, and he was truly a brilliant character actor. And it sounds like he was a fun human being too.
Jon actually played Worzel longer than he played the Doctor. But he truly loved Worzel enough to do two more series in Australia. "Patrick, shut yer face!!" 🤣🤣
