Jona Lewie with new Stop the Cavalry video, 2009.
The majority of Jona Lewie hits will always be associated with his time signed to Stiff Records. A major new BBC documentary series was recently shown about the label that once again brought wider public attention to Jona, his music and the infamy of the label.
Jona has been busy recording his new album scheduled for release in 2010, and is at the moment finalising its album art.

I wish someone would've made the dancers listen to the song. Actually listen to it. It's not meant to glorify war, the soldiers aren't meant to be smiley and delighted with themselves. I love this song, but I hate the way that it's been made so commercial, so much that it's anti-war message has effectively been lost.

As the German subtitles points out its an ANTI-WAR song not a X-MASS song. A lot of people didn't seem to get that and some still don't.

Not sure what you mean by "can't sing like that any more"? Just listened to the 1981 version and the voice is different from this - no surprise, it was 30 years ago - but he can certainly still sing.

your right, it is an anti-war song, but because of the line 'I wish I was at home for christmas' it's been listed as a christmas song. I remember Jona Lewie saying he was very disappointed about it

Love this song. It’s unfortunate they had to make such a silly, campy production of it, plus, that curly haired brunette is overacting and WAY too happy for what is essentially a song about the experience of war.

Great song. I have heard this song in Edinburgh. I was walking at the department store. I was surprised. I never hear this song in Thailand. I love so much.
