Uncomparable. Someone wished me to listen to a new tenor singing this earlier today. He was a nice singer but, once you've heard a voice produced with such skill, demonstrating such a mastery of his instrument with complete understanding of the expressive phraseology of the music and language, you simply cannot hear anything finer than the genius of Jonas Kaufmann.

absolutely the most musical rendition i could find out there, most expressive in just the right way. Tenderness rather than sadness. Velvety voice like no other. No rough edges, doesn't sound like his throat is popping out of his mouth in a gag like many other tenors. Great legato.
I'm currently learning this and it's so hard to convey the right emotion and keep a good low larynx ! His and Pavarotti's rendition are two of my favourites!
@@xxsaruman82xx87 I don't think Kaufmann has a particularly high larynx. He doesn't usually anyway.. though he does have a tendency to sound very 'throaty' Di Stefano has the most beautiful voice and I think this aria is better for him because he's got a lighter more lyric voice.
@@LeeJCander Kaufmann's true voice is actually lighter than Di Stefano. Kaufmann is a leggero tenor, but he sings throaty, and woofy and constricted to make his voice seem bigger and dark, but actually it makes his voice even smaller. His diction suffers and his vowels are distorted because of this, Three other tenors I love in L'elisir are Valletti, the young Alva (he became woofy later) and Bergonzi. But Di Stefano is my favourite Nemorino of all. I think the 'tenor' with the highest larynx is Juan Diego Florez.

Bravissimo Maestro Jonas kaufmann ! La sua voce è molto intensa e adatta al brano cantato. Secondo me non tutti i tenori sono in grado di interpretare qualsiasi aria ( parlo da semplice appassionata di musica) ma ognuno ha delle opere che preferisce. Ho sentito il duetto da " I pescatori di perle" interpretato da Jonas kaufmann e Dimitri Horostowskj ed è veramente emozionante. Grazie a chi posta questa bella musica di cui possiamo godere tutti.💕💯💥

Everything he sings is just so beautiful and heartfelt. What a very great artist! I don't think there ever was a tenor with such a combination of a beautiful voice, musicality,sensitivity, tremendous acting ability and to add to it all so handsome with real charisma on stage.

I cannot thank you enough for posting this. He hadn't met or worked with the voice teacher who put his voice into the shape that it's in today. It's amazing to hear the difference. For a vocal student, it's a priceless learning tool.
Mr. Kaufmann has such a feeling and unique musicality. Beautiful. His technic is not worked out like in the Bel Canto, I admire him for what he does. Bravo!
The best performance of the thing I’ve ever heard. His vocal manner is excellent and unique. Long and deep breathing. The sound goes like through nape and top of his head. Differs from other ‘sunny’ tenors with separated chest on high notes. He is closer to baritones.
There are a new beautiful voice. He is different than Gigli but in complet feeling is the same amazing. His voice is so strong so heroin but tender in this aria. His voice is one of the best of all. Thank you for recording.

Actualmente es el mejor tenor con una voz increible y una tecnica sorprendente , ni siquiera juan diego , ni Villazon siendo otro tipo de tenores le hacen competencia .
How lovely and nobody knew about him. The breakthrough came with his Alfredo in 2004 at the Met and look what happened to him, he became really the tenor "par excellelence"of our time.
Kaufmann is my favorite tenor, and this recording is the first time I've heard him sing this aria. While he was as expressive as always, I felt he was working very hard in a bad way -- as if he was unsure of himself -- during certain parts of the aria, and the result was being slightly under the pitch. The first example starts at 1:01, gets slightly flat at 1:04, and noticeably so at 1:08 - 1:09. I hear it fluctuate as he holds "ma" around 1:40. Again at 2:37 when he holds "spi" at 2:36; "fondere" around 2:42. Overall, I enjoyed hearing Kaufmann sing this aria, just as I love hearing voices sing songs and arias that are "outside" of their fach. This was a brave attempt, and he did sing with sensitivity and excellent phrasing, but he is definitely better with heavier arias and roles. Someone let me know if you find a recording of Brownlee or Florez singing Puccini!
Your request is analogous to asking those of us who KNOW to accept brass as 24k gold. When my Italian forefathers wrote those arias, they NEVER intended to have them BRUTALIZED by unsuitable voices. Had he remained in the category that is NATUARALLY his, the chances that he would be a better singer would likely be quite high. If one could file litigation for such a thing in the arts, I would promulgate having him arrested and put in a dungeon (underground jail).

What an interesting approach to this song. Pavarotti really attacks this one in his iconic way, so for him to take a softer dynamic approach really makes it stand out. Beautiful interpretation.

This is really lovely. I didn't know that L'Elisir d'Amore was in JK's repertory. But everyone, this was year 2000, and you must know that JK doesn't sound like this any more. His voice is no longer so high, thin, and clear. He has gotten much stronger, deeper, with more noble and tasteful timbre, but a lower tessitura. It is only natural as one gets older. To me he is definitely better now, more expressive and moving, but not necessarily a prettier sound.
I disagree with those that think that his voice is not convenient for this roll. In fact, I consider that his style is actually meant for this type of operas. Although his voice is big and dark, he also lacks the attack and the strong wild passion required for heaviest rolls. Una furtiva lagrima, on the other hand, allows us to contemplate the natural lyric and musicality of Jonas's voice. If you don't think so, I invite you to listen to his version of Vesti la Giubba: Despise his magnificent voice, Jonas' interpretation ends up being pale and flat. But here, in Una furtiva lagrima, he beautifully represents the right feeling and emotion that Nemorino is passing through in every note. A very smart interpretation.
l'interpretazione di kaufman in "vesti la giubba" ti pare " pallida e piatta "???? forse sei abituato ai singhiozzi di pianto che è d'uso siano abbondanti in questa aria. lui non fa i tipici singhiozzi.e non scopiazza nessuno.... io ho ascoltato dietro il tuo suggerimento questa aria e la ho trovata favolosa.... a parte alcune note acute che " calano" in maniera evidente.. ma, nella sua totalità , l'aria è cantata in maniera stupenda... io sono una cantante -. soprano e parlo con cognizione di causa

Yes, He didn't do it bad at all, but he still lacks either the maturity or the experience to get well into the character and transmit the right emotions that Canio is going through at this moment. Opera is not singing only. It is singing and acting and acting with the voice. There is where he might be missing something for this aria. (I mean this for aria only. I like much more other rolls he sings)
17 Jahre sind enorm! Das heutige Eindunkeln der Stimme verschattet die Linie oftmals, Piano ist hier Piano, Jonas ist wunderbar in dieser Aufnahme...!!
Hier singt Kaufmann schöner als im Konzert vom 15.12.2014.Da hört man ihn nur noch brüllen.Doch geht mir diese Arie besonders mit Benjamino Gigli und Fritz Wunderlich sehr nahe.Die Zwei sind kaum zu erreichen.Fritz Wunderlich singt die deutschsprachige Aufnahme,neben Weiteres mit einer solchen Sanftheit und Intensität,das es schwer ist,die Tränen zurück zu halten.Dieses fehlt mir bei Jonas Kaufmann,auch,wenn die Opernarie von ihm die beste Aufnahme meiner Ansicht nach ist.Das heisst,JK singt das Meiste viel weniger schön.
Estimado, lo que utiliza Kaufmann entre esos segundos del Aria se llama mezza di voce, lo cual consiste en cantar una nota a una intensidad pianissimo para luego expandirla y ganar fortaleza y más color al momento aumentar la intensidad. Se confunde con falsetto fácilmente, pero no lo es, es voz de cabeza utilizada con mucha delicadeza y con muy buena técnica ;) .
no se quien se mejor este o el otro si es una mezza di voce, lo unico que se es que ha que chingon cantan estos tipos de interpretes disfrutemos todo esto
