I really enjoy it when a performer comments on the piece - John Denver comes to mind as perhaps my best example. Of course, when you actually write the songs you have an advantage when it comes to describing how it came to be composed, etc. It's a delight when Jonathan "sets the scene" before each piece and has a conversation & connection with his audience. Many singers who have magnificent voices that I've seen on stage - Ella Fitzgerald and Pavarotti for example - just appeared and sang. The only thing Ella said the whole evening was "Thank you" between songs, and Pavarotti, sometimes not even that. So, Jonathan... keep on talking to us... and thank you! We come to enjoy the whole Jonathan - not just your magnificent voice. Just be you.
