I think he did a great mix of genres. Dark comedy and suspense. Something Wild, Married to the Mob, Silence of the Lambs, The Truth About Charlie and The Manchurian Candidate
Watched it for the first time in 30 years. Our library had a dvd copy. It holds up. A great story. Great acting. I think it's one of the best movies of the 80's.
Favorite film of JD. This movie was so down to earth like a fun little 80's era adventure , but then slowly sneaks up on you with a powerful Important life message by the end. Soundtrack was memorable and fit perfectly , and the casting was right. A real hidden gem.
Great review. I’ve seen the trailers and I find it way better than Married to the Mob. Married to the Mob made The Godfather and Scarface look like Christmas with the Kranks
This is my favourite film, & favourite Jeff Daniels film (although he's such a great actor in absolutely everything). & to see the much missed Johnathan Demme talk so wonderfully about it was amazing. Thank you
Great insight from the director of my most personal and favorite movie of all time. I saw Something Wild when I was in high school and absolutely fell in love with the film, Melanie, the music, the script and all the characters. It was so unpredictable, entertaining, and sexy. It was nothing like I've seen before. It completely blew me away.
This film is on my top ten list as well as melvin and howard ..so needless to say i love films by jonathan demme ...these films never get old i love watching over and over again ...thanks mr demme
some of my fav films directed by him. Melvin and Howard, something wild, silence of the lambs, manchurian candidate. RIP Jonathan Demme. offbeat and indy that went mainstream but so watchable.
At first I thought, 33 minutes of a guy just talking about a light comedy he made (I still haven't seen it) - isn't that gonna be boring? I was riveted from start to finish. What a lovely, wild guy (now I have to see it). I shoulda known 'cos Stop Making Sense is my favourite rock concert doc ever. So, thank you, JD! To end, here's a great quote from his Wiki: "I am heart-broken to lose a friend, a mentor, a guy so singular and dynamic you'd have to design a hurricane to contain him. Jonathan was as quirky as his comedies and as deep as his dramas. He was pure energy, the unstoppable cheerleader for anyone creative. Just as passionate about music as he was about art, he was and will always be a champion of the soul. JD, most beloved, something wild, brother of love, director of the lambs. Love that guy. Love him so much." - Jodie Foster's statement following Demme's death.
It's the original yuppie nightmare movie 1985 it could not be more 80s if it tried. Talking heads the garish exuberant composed observations are a thing of beauty my favourite demme film.
Something Wild will gain momentum the older it gets. This is my favorite along with Lust for Life w Kirk Douglas and Anthony Quinn. Two totally different films.
Anyone know if in the end LuLu was from old money? She looked like it and it kinda came outta left field. Was she rich? Or is it more likely she stole the rich clothes and car?
In the end, it was kind of an object lesson. I have to admit that Ray kind of reminded me of my (on first-run viewing) newly ex-husband. But, also in the end, IMO Charlie & Audrey have a chance at a really good, healthy relationship. They seem to have real affection and regard for each other, and respect for themselves. JMO...
