I feel that he was the soul of that movie for sure. And Wolf of Wall Street, I feel was carried by Jonah Hill. Only my opinion. Leo DiCaprio was the star, but brilliant character actors are what make the movie real to me.
It's a shame and unfair how nature or God whatever we can call it decides to shut our lights out, we all come here in this world 🌎 and end up being erased just like Ray's pretty eyes were shut down, sad
I met Ray-standing outside a hotel in Texas. He was an extremely nice guy-how he is in this clip is exactly how he was when we met. We had a long conversation about 'Hummer' cars and how odd they look when being driven through a valet stand. Great and down to earth guy for as famous as he was.
Exactly what I was thinking. He seems rather reserved and shy. He's probably nervous too. Who wouldn't? Some actors (especially in the 80's, 90's) like to try to maintain their tough guy image off screen. Liotta not at all. He could have jumped on the bandwagon so well. All he had to do was milk the fact that he hung out with all the real mobsters. But not at all. Says even he doesn't want anything to do with Henry Hill. Somehow that makes him even more likeable. That he's just an actor. A professional actor.
True. Same case with Christian Bale. He is so intimidating and intense on screen, but when you watch his interviews he seems very quiet, very down to earth, and very warm. And still, people wonder if that's really Bale. You just know his on-screen characters, but his real self is an enigma - that is the definition of a great actor. Yet another actor like this is Daniel Day-Lewis. As for Di Caprio, for example, I always thought he is overrated. He can act, sure, but I always still see Di Caprio behind every role, that part of him that is very public because he likes to appear in the media. Of course, one still doesn't know how he is behind closed doors, but there are certain parts of a personality that you can't fake or hide if you are a lot in the media, and it's especially true of actors who expose themselves publicly quite often.
He’s was a completed underrated actor. Don’t know if Hollywood gave him the recognition that his skills and craft deserved. Goodfellas was a ridiculously excellent piece of cinema and bonified classic
Who doesn't love Ray? He is so real, nothing phony or stuck up about him. Over the years I've heard how wonderful he is with his fans. He will have conversations with them, take photos, sign autographs. He was always refreshing to watch in interviews.
I have to say the "Funny Guy" scene in Goodfellas is the most amazing and buzzing with electricity scene I've ever seen in a movie! It was all improvised on the spot! AMAZING!
This is financial advice and I never give financial advice: DONT LEAVE DURING THE BEAR. If you don’t want to invest…learn. If you don’t want to learn…build. If you don’t want to build observe. DO SOMETHING…other than leave. There is so much opportunity here. Take advantage!
Very true, I started investing before the pandemic and that same year I pulled a profit of about $750k with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was seeking guidance from *ROCHELLE DUNGCA-SCHREIBER* who's a guru in the game, you can be passively involved with the aid of a professional.
I didn't know he passed. I too first noticed him in Something Wild. Great film. He played great tough guys. Has the look as well. Probably intimidated Dave.
I remember watching that movie when I was living in Libya back in 9o's, it was one of my favorite movies. I still think about that movie when I see him. America can be proud of this guy. He represented your country in the best way possible. He still does. Even if not anymore with us. I feel lucky I was able to watch him perform. God rest your soul Ray 🙏🏼, Thank you for all the beautiful moments and all the movies you made. For making my life more colourful and beautiful. I definitely won't forget you until I am alive. You where part of my growing up. Thank you!
67 years old... that's far too young. I really liked Ray Liotta. He was a great actor and very good in the comedy _Heartbreakers_ with Sigourney Weaver, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Gene Hackman from 2001. R.I.P Ray and thanks for the entertainment.
5:42 Ray Liotta laughs and says, "That's funny." Reminiscent of his scene, "You're a funny guy." Ray is a great actor! I had to edit this due to my not knowing of Ray Liotta's death (May 26, 2022). I saw a comment below mentioning that he passed. I'm blown away and have no words. I hope he's in a much better place now.
Ray Liotta is so charming in this interview. I'm really sad about his passing. He was a tremendously talented guy! You will be missed and prayers to your family. This is so sad! 😢😢🙏🙏❤❤
When people say that he is "the most terrifying or intimidating guy in Hollywood" look at this interview. He is genuinely wholesome here with smiling and laughing. RIP
As a kind of mobster movie guy, I think the Ray would have been a terrific Bugsy Siegel. Warren Beatty was okay but a bit too old and perhaps not scary crazy enough IMO
You feel kinda bad for some people because they just have that look of a creepy or dangerous guy and Ray was like that --- but he used his acting talents to smile a lot and talk in a jovial manner and that would put you at ease --- but when he got that sinister look in his eyes, he was a KILLER
Ray really had a good laugh, I love his "evil laugh" but its not evil at all, he's just enjoying himself. We lost Liotta way too soon. So unexpected, he's also been very underused these last 10 years or more.
Yep, and the sad irony (to your point about him being 'underused') is Ray talked about how this past year he'd never been so busy vs. all the ups-and-downs he experienced in show business. And the fact that he was about to be married to supposedly a wonderful woman makes his passing even more tragic.
It was indeed a shock to hear of his passing, at much too young an age! The first time I remember seeing him in any role was as "a man out there on your lawn," as little Gaby/Karin (now 40!) put it. When that striking face with the penetrating stare just appeared on the screen, suddenly, shockingly, I remember thinking what a brilliant piece of casting. He was, quite simply, an actor who didn't act like an actor. Like they'd reached back across time, snatched up the actual guy, and plunked him down in the middle of an Iowa cornfield. Ray Liotta portrayed that honest, striking _realism,_ like a face in an old sepia photograph... without saying a word. Just sending all that energy into the camera. The man was really something special. A force of nature. R.I.P. Ray Liotta! You will be missed!
Came across this and when I heard him talk, I was reminded what we lost. His laugh is memorable. I saw him in Goodfellas and he also played himself in the animated show The Bee Movie. He was such a pleasure to watch. I cried when he died. And now the song, " And he kissed me" will forever remind me of Ray Liotta.
Such a tremendous soul and legendary actor yup folks…we definitely lost one of those people that made life that much more colorful and exciting!!! Rest Easy good sir, much love and thanks!!!
@@wr6392 nope I’m just a huge fan of everything he was in from Goodfellas all the way to Muppets from Space. Sorry if somehow you misinterpreted my comment as a personal letter among friends written in the RU-vid comment section…
Ray was a great character actor and leading man. He could play a sensitive, loving family man and other times a vicious psychopath you would not want to cross the wrong way. RIP Ray.
Despite his accolades and praise, I've always felt he was underrated, always somewhat in the shadows of the A-listers he starred with. Yet, he was the heart beat of most of his films. Wonderful actor and sorely missed already.
I love his laugh and Goodfellas was great. My German boyfriend refused to watch it, finally did and said. YOUR PEOPLE ARE SO VIOLENT? a I answered with…we never made lampshades.
Thanks so much for putting this up! Ray Liotta was one of the most brilliant actors of his, or any generation; there's literally no one else like him! A giant - One in a billion.
A small role that he did, which is largely forgotten, was in 'Blow' with Johnny Depp. He only had a few lines in that movie, but he was brilliant. All people ever do is talk about goodfellas, and yeah, we all know about goodfellas. But he was so much bigger than even that movie.
I met Ray about 2 mos before Good fellas came out at a Crosby Stills and Nash concert in the 80s at the Waikiki Shell. He struck up a conversation talked for about 20 mins having a smoke told me he had a movie coming out titled Wiseguys. Very friendly talker just like he is talking to Dave. Goodfellas turned out to be to this day the greatest film I have seen. RIP and Aloha Ray . You left us too early
Seems here like a very decent and modest man; when a celebrity acknowledges their nervousness, it's humanizing and thus endearing. Sorry to learn of his passing. A great and distinctive actor, one of a kind who will be sorrily missed.
I literally saw him outside the premier of many saints of Newark not too long ago. I was so happy to see him. Cant believe this. Big legend. Losing everyone we grew up with this year.
It's funny to listen to Ray Liotta in real life. His voice, his mannerisms, there exactly the same as in Goodfellas. He played himself as Henry Hill. It was a great performance.
Ray Liotta played a really bad guy in "Something Wild" movie. He scared me in that one. Goodfellas was just filled with great actors and he got Henry Hill's character nailed down.
"Something Wild" was the first movie I saw with Ray Liotta and his performance stuck with me for quite awhile. He was very intense and I was actually worried about Jeff Daniels character, that's how good he was.
The first time I saw Goodfellas, (early 90’s) I was at someone’s bungalow in Melbourne Australia and had just had mushrooms. I assumed that the movie was brilliant because everything is brilliant on mushrooms. So I watched it again a few days later completely straight. Still brilliant. Probably even more, brilliant. 30 years later is still my top 5 fave films ever. ‘Something Wild’ blew my teenage mind years before. RIP Ray. You burned so bright.
Sir I can only imagine how beautiful and deep the red in this movie must have looked. I watched Terminator 2 on shrooms and the colours were out of this world.
Such a talented actor, charismatic and unique. I always thought his performance in Goodfellas is actually underrated (understandably given De Niro & Pesci being his co-stars). RIP
He is unreal in that movie it's one of the best ever movie performances ,🔥,pesci is class , de Niro , has a smaller role ,but he is the main guy , it's a brilliant performance
I'm still bummed and depressed over Ray's passing. I still can't believe it. I remember listening to Howard Stern back in the day when he had Ray Liotta on a bunch of time's. Funny stuff. You will be missed, but definitely not forgotten.
The movie Ray was talking about later in the interview is set in 2022 and is called, "No Escape" (like in death)! That is beyond prophetic!! Loved this dude RIP.
Very Underrated film. I almost forgot he was the star. In my mind I thought it was good enough to be a TV series that would explore more of the world he came from and whatever (no spoilers) to everyone after the end.
Goodfellas is one of all time favourite movies, Grand Theft Auto Vice City is one of the best video games ever made. We were blessed to enjoy your talents. Rest In Power Ray. Gone but never forgotten. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
