This is Part 1 of a montage of Jonathan Winters' funniest work as part of a tribute to honor him with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2003 Orinda Film Festival. Run Time: 14:27
Geez, every time I see Jonathan Winters I am amazed. He played a plethora of different persons: idiots, criminals, homosexuals, women, half-wits, country bumpkins -- and when he played the role, the people he played looked real. So many people asked for him just because of his comic genius. There is always a sad part: the fact that Jonathan is not here. It's a damn shame. God makes one masterpiece in a lifetime. When that masterpiece is gone, you have good memories, but you have a hell of a lot of heartache. That's what I have ever time I see Jonathan. Laughter and heartache.
Jack Paar doesn't want to laugh because Jonathan Winters sounds African! This shit is so funny! Look at the expression on on Jack Paar's face during the African part. He tries real hard not to laugh!
I’m truly sorry you feel that way, because I used to also, so I know what it feels like. But if you could only know what I now know, and it didn’t involve any religious faith to believe, although I did have my faith. Jonathan Winters is infinitely more than just fine, and I have no doubt he’s still causing people to laugh where he’s at. So cheer up, all is well.
I'm amazed . I grew up enjoying Jonathan Winters' work but after all those decades my memories of him had faded . I had been incapable of fully appreciating him as a child but he now fills me with awe and makes me wonder if he was human . Robin Williams was a superb heir for him .
Lol... Oh no he did not break out into an African song as an African.... Oh goodness!... Lol... Sunbathing w/ the wallet!... Lol... His comedic, improvisation talent is 2nd to none! Peace :-)
Wow ,,,, thank you for the upload. Jonathan was a GENIUS hands down. I have always loved the man . He have us all so many laughs and will continue to as long as he is remembered.
You can't beat this comic genius. He and Robin were simply so fast and beyond words. They were that good. And i don't ever see anyone replacing them. God bless them both and THANK YOU for ALL the times you made me wet myself...;)
When I was 15 I discovered Jonathan Winters. His show was on Wednesday night- I would start laughing during the day, and by showtime I would be in hysterics. The next day would be a complete rehashing of the show with my fellow JW fan...
I have idolized this genius since I first heard his album in 1960. I was stationed in France and I was 20. I still laugh until I cry from his instant made up routines. Sometimes I think Robin Williams popped out of his butt...
"Did you ever undress in front of a dog? I'll tell you...you think about that for minute. It's funny, a bird, somehow a bird doesn't count, right? Or a cat. But a dog...they really stare. I was just come out of the shower and there was my just (makes side-eye leering face) You know they can't talk, right? But when they look at cha (makes leering face again) and she wagged her little tail and went out and told her little friends what she'd seen."
I have been laughing at Jonathan since I was 12 and I just turned 68. He is consistently the funniest. All his work has been a scream over the years but I love the early work. Maud Frickert is the best.
If you don't laugh out loud while watching this, you just might be dead. He not only had the "physical equipment" (facial expressions, attitude), and the talent; he had a mental brilliance that we have not seen in anyone hence. And how about that Bing Crosby imitaiton?!!! Rest in Peace and always keep them laughing in Heaven.. Love, a Fan !!
Proof positive that this man was the ZENITH in the super-funny department. If you don't laugh out loud while watching this, you just might be dead. He not only had the "physical equipment" (facial expressions, attitude), and the talent; he had a mental brilliance that we have not seen in anyone hence. And how about that Bing Crosby imitaion?!!! Wow, was there anything this genius couldn't do?! A treaure. Thanks for the upload!
When Mr. Winters had his own television show, at the end they would bring out a surprise prop and he improvised, I remember when they gave him a banana, I can't remember all the jokes he made with it, but I will always remember how hard I laughed....I was a fan from that day on. OMG , the service station scene in It's A Mad Mad Mad World!
very well said ClarasBeau...a crazy insane comedic genius the likes which we shall not see again. I Loved him. for so long. and have missed him gracing our small screen with his humor & charm & wit. Thank You Randy for putting this tribute up for us to again enjoy
HE WAS A GENIUS,most super intelligent people are nuts or near it,simple everyday things don't matter and they only think, even in their sleep,JON was brilliant, view anything by ROBIN WILLIAMS he'll say the same thing, they were afflicted the same, brilliance and super attendance to detail,JON once did the sounds of screwdrivers and wrenches in a scene,it was beyond genius
Thank you for the sideaches from laughing, the tears from laughing so much and all the wonderful memories and being a big influence on me when I was little...

Of all American humorists and comedians of the 20th, there are three who stand apart of all the others. Mark Twain, who provided his humor primarily in the 19th century but survived until 1910, Groucho Marx, a master of wit, and Jonathan Winters who amazed and captivated audiences simply because one never knew what he would do next. A master of improvisation and the ad lib as he descended into character. No one ever approached his lightning wit and zany ramblings. He was the idol of Robin Williams who himself considered Winters the true master. Fortunately there remain many snippets of his appearances on various TV shows that provide examples of his comic wizardry.
Jonathan Winters -- comic genius. Came from a world full of comic geniuses like Dean Martin. They don't make them like this anymore. I guess I'll have to wait to die to see one of Jonathan's shows. There's nothing like them here on earth.
It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World: Jonathan Winters and his cast of idiots -- each one dumber than the one before. It's amazing how someone with so much intelligence can play several idiots. Jonathan Winters: Comic genius.
Are you an aging baby boomer too? Yup, (another) part of me died when Jonathan died. They just don't make them like that any more, and you can't go back. My dad liked Jonathan, and both are now gone. I don't think the under 30 crowd can appreciate this stuff. Innocence is lost.
Marty Howe , I think some do, but only the ones that are not blindly consumed with the trashy celebrities of today. If they ran a JW special with all these skits and more, I bet many of the younger folks would really like it. But what they see and are in fact brainwashed into seeing as the norm is the smut in TV, movies and stand up acts.
@5:00 Maude Frikker everybody knew that was JW, it even made a 9yr old laugh, it was comedy acting now all these pooh boys want to disparage comeic acting in dresses, how about actresses like Lucille Ball acting like a cowboy. Let's enjoy the comedy and leave the bs out.
