I'm from the U.S. & am already subscribed to Jonna Jinton's channel. I hadn't heard of her until I began my deep dive into music on YT. Listening to music from around the world is one of my favorite things. Traditional Swedish & German music are of particular interest to me because that's where my ancestors immigrated from. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

National anthem with a retro twist. We love the wilderness over here. Thanks for reacting on this one. It is "kulning", cowherders call. Goes for miles and miles. Plus, scares the trolls away, whitch is always nifty. Take care and greetings from Gothenburg Sweden.

I never really liked our anthem, but this one almost makes me cry. Especially because of what has happened to my country. The translation can never do it justice, I love this sort of poetic Swedish. I love that it sings about the Nordic, and doesn't mention Sweden. So when it says "the north" it's different, we have norr which is north, but Norden is the Nordic.

Although it's never been announced as the official song, this song is pretty much the national anthem of Sweden. It's the song that is always played during athletic achievements are met. The song does have more verses than the two that was sung but it's these two that are always sung during our national anthem. Jonna Jinton's atmospheric voice only makes it even better ;)

This is not the original melody of the Swedish national anthem - Jonna has changed the melody considerably but kept the lyrics. It's her personal version, but I really cannot see the point of "distorting" the national anthem. Her voice is quite good though.

The high pitched singing today is called 'kulning' to call animals home, but in the ancient days, the viking age, a 'galdr' was a kind of high pitched song that women used in 'Seidr' magic while doing rituals and spells. Odin and Freya know this kind of magic. This is why crazy/mad in modern Swedish is called 'galen' (from galdr) and 'gala' (which is a word for 'singing', because it was believed that a 'galdr' (song) could drive someone insane. But magic was used for love, protection, victory in battle etc, not just curses. :) It was also said the song of the elves was so beautiful that people could go insane if they heard it, which is why people were afraid of them. The kind of fog you see over the water in her video, we call 'Älvdans' ( Dance of the elves ), because it was believed to be, and it was said to never ever disturb them, or they could cause great misery.

Just a small comment about the lyrics (both Swedish and English) - there's a very common mistake most Swedes make when singing this song, which is that they sing "jag vet vad du är och förblir vad du var" ("I know what you are and that you'll remain what you were") which is incorrect. The true lyrics are "jag vet att du är och du blir vad du var" ("I know what you are and you'll be what you were"). It's such a small difference when sung, but does change the whole meaning of the lyrics. That being said, this is a beautiful and creative version of our inofficial anthem.

Kulning as aomeone already memtioned. There are more beautiful videos about that both with Jonna and others. It is amazing how enormous distances that sound can travel. They used it as a herding call, but also the girls where alone in the wild with the animals and they used to call and communicate with other girls in other areas.

This is the lyrics I learnt in school in the 1960s to be the Swedish national anthem (which it strictly isn't). The music is rather an improvisation around the version we learnt. This is a beautiful version but of course more difficult for children to learn. Very beautiful pictures. Sweden may look like that, but usually not. It looks like something inbetween Swedish nature at its best (in the tourist information) and pictures by the Swedish artist John Bauer about 100 years ago.

This is not our national anthem. She uses the same words but the melody is totally different. Personally I don't like when people do this to any song. I mean, if you're going to make up your own music, why not write your own lyrics as well?
@svergurd3873
@svergurd3873 22 дня назад
The melody is not "totally different". It is the same melody, slower than usual, and she has added the kulning. I hear only one change in the melody - the note on 'fjäll' in 'fjällhöga' is slightly lowered. It is our National Anthem with tiny artistic interpretation. Great interpretation. ❤ B.t.w. that the melody is somewhat unusual for national anthems is because it is an old traditional Swedish folk tune. Somebody picked it up wrote a patriotic text to it in the 1800-s.
