I counted 45. Some have it at 43. Others at 41. Regardless; Jonny Gray sets a new Pro 14 record for tackles attempted and completed in a single match, comfortably beating the previous record of 34 set by Josh Van der Flier.
He’s very quickly becoming the best defensive tackler in rugby at the moment. To make 40+ successful tackles and not miss one is truly unique. Back to full fitness and ready for the World Cup I’d say 🏴
Great amount of work over a full 80 mins! However, he has always been a great tackler, I would like to see him improve his carrying now, as Scotland really need that big ball carrier. Long may he continue!
I AM SURPRISED THE STATISTICIANS CAN KEEP UP WITH JOHNNIE , THE MAN IS PROBABLY A STATISTICIANS NIGHTMARE OR NOT MAYBE THE CASE , HE GOES ALL OUT FOR A FORWARD VERY IMPRESSIVE THAT GOODNESS HE PLAYS FOR US , HIS CONTRIBUTIONS COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WINNING OR LOSING IN TODAYS RUGBY WHERE THE TEAMS ARE VERY CLOSELY MATCHED AND TRYING TO BE MORE THOUGHTFUL ON STRATEGY ETC JOHNNIE MAKES THE TEAMS HE PLAYS FOR SOMETHING OF A DELIGHT TO RUGBY COACHES WHO DONT HAVE FUSTRATE OVER WHO TO UTILISE IN THAT POSITION ITS FAIRLY CERTAIN JOHNNIE IS HIS CHOICE OR PICK BUT ALSO HE IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO INJURY AND WHEN TEAMS KNOW WHAT INJURIES HE MAY HAVE THEYLL EXPLOIT THAT ACHILLES HEEL BUT THIS DOESNT HAPPEN OFTEN HE IS TO ONE OF THE MOST BANKABLE FORWARDS TO PLAY FOR SCOTLAND AND LONG MAY IT REIGN SO BUILDING A TEAM THE PREMIERSHIP IN ENGLAND ARE LOOKING AT HIM SO I DONT KNOW HIS FUTURE EITHER WAY HE IS A CALIBRE OF PLAYER MAYBE ALL ON HIS OWN.TYPE ......
Amazing performance by Jonny Gray - has Dave Rennie's rocket a week or so ago affected him at all, when he demanded all his players needed to perform? A world-class player for sure. I would like to make in passing a comment about Devin Toner's wee bit cheating at times.
@@eoinmurphy8430 In American/Canadian football, when two or more players make a tackle simultaneously, each player gets .5 tackles towards their total tackle count.
@@papaclorex3231 You think it makes the game look feminine. I understand your perspective, but it's not possible to make a dominant hit every time. Especially not 43 times. Purists of the game recognise the abnormal work rate on display here in my opinion.
High quantity, pretty fair quality. Does not really compare to seminal defensive performances like Dusatoir v All Blacks or Haskell vs Aus. Context is important too, he's a first/second channel defender and that is pretty much all Leinster run down, one off passes, grinding. Simple, effective rugby but nothing special here IMO on both sides. Great achievement though, some flops not too many dominant.
Doesn't matter,he's there making sure the play is shut down even if not a full tackle everytime, for someone his size to keep at the place of the play that much is impressive
