Such a nice course! Thank you for offering it! It was been a pleasure to attend all sessions and learn the essentials of Joomla in an efficient, practical and unrushed way. Very helpful. Highly recommend it for beginners like me.
You fooled me at 10:27 when the line, "Deign changes are easy", came up. What better time to show how easy changes are to make than by inserting an 'S' in to the first word :-)
The structure of websites is becoming easier and easier to create, that put the real focus mostly now on the creative side of graphic design, photography, and typography and the logical flow of information architecture.
Not only that, I'm learning after effect through Linda's videos because motion and 3D is growing faster than I thought. Thanks for the Vid Russ... I've been wanting to try Joomla for a while :)
I been making simple sites with bootstrap, but I need to start using a CMS like wordpress or Joomla. I still like to be able to work with the css and html so hoping I can learn the PHP that will let me customize or at least be able to adjust the templates. They are very simple but I have couple test sites I made with bootstrap and not I will try to redo the same sites in Joomla and wordpress... rus-sch.net
I like what you are doing. Wordpress is a dream because is the cms for dummies. I would def start there because they're the leading and is fun to make a site so quickly :) but later we all have to face Joomla, php and the rest. Start by putting a free css theme and customize it how you want it. Add widgets. Use plugins and change the fonts to a cool free webfonts. I took the lynda couse video how to build a css theme for wp and it was great. Find an up-to-date course -novice advice :)
I'm starting to get the flow of Joomla, create a simple site by, making a folder (category) to hold your site information in files (articles), then create a menu that links to those articles (files). The tricky part now is learn how to arrange the modules (components) in a way that fits the design you want to create.
I already have Joomla 2.5 installed. Would you recommend that I follow that set of videos? or is it still possible to watch the Joomla 3 videos and still be relevant. I'd prefer the version 3 videos are they are in HD and easier to follow. Thanks

Hey!! good evening all! I am new to Joomla and I am working with a template. I see a drop down on each of the positions but I am wondering how can you get to the front end text to change it. Thanks!
BuildAJoomlaWebsite While I'm in the administrator panel and I go check the site I notice that there is an icon with an asterisk. I can actually click it and I am able to edit the text. That applies to the text but I want to get to the headings. Being new to Joomla and being a dynamic type site I want to edit some of the headings of the template I am using and I don't know how to do it yet. Once you tell me how to find it I know it's going to be easy to modify the site. Thanks!
hello, i am trying to use joomla for the 1st time and my boss asked me to make the website have a certain look, i want to add things to the style, like a new header on top of the nav, how do i do those kind of things? i can only change the templates css but thats not enought, i also need to put a login system and a search system that gets the results from the database, no idea where the joomla html or where to add the php queries
These are kind of advanced questions that are hard to answer here. I suggest you 1) watch the rest of this course and 2) ask further questions at www.buildajoomlawebsite.com/forum
hi, thanks for the tutorial. I am php developer. I know cakephp framework. I am trying to develop custom webpages in joomla. But not able to understand joomla url writing and, joomla working flow. In any framework url follows as www.samplesite.com/controller/method_name/parameter1/parameter2. But joomla url looks different. How to develop custom pages as framework. and what is this components thing in joomla. please upload a video for us. Thanks in advance
The quickest way to get an overview of Joomla is to watch this entire course. In particular, see the lesson on extensions. However for most advanced issues such as custom development, you'll want to spend some time in the docs at docs.joomla.org
Hard to answer without an understanding of the solution you're using for the directory. Most Joomla-based directories are powered by a third party extension. If that's the case, the quickest solution is to contact the extension developer. This might just be a case of enabling a setting to display sub-directories, or it might be a limitation with the extension.
Yes. Third party developers are responsible for their own extensions. I'm just an independent person producing Joomla tutorials (I'm not part of the Joomla Project) and although I have a lot of experience with certain extensions, there is no way I can know everything about all of them.
