Part 1: • Jordan Belfort (Wolf o...
--------------------
Jordan Belfort starts this clip off by practically denouncing the infrastructure of college, stating that it isn't necessary in order to become successful. To that, DJ Vlad offers some slight pushback referring to his computer Science degree and the way in which it helped him launch his highly advanced system for VladTV. Then, the two engage in a friendly debate about whether or not a college degree truly has any real financial barring on a person's future. For more, hit the link above.

Employer sponsored my engineering degree and I did it while working, so no debt luckily. Anybody in the UK can call themselves an engineer in the UK, so apprenticeships and degrees hold limited value on your CV. Apprenticeships are massively valuable for practical skills, and degree apprenticeships offer the best of both worlds.

It's not complicated. If you're going to go to college, assess the ROI. Make sure you pursue a degree that opens doors for you in a high demand field. It's also a major plus, and an extra layer of marketability, if the skills you acquire in that highly in-demand field are transferable to other fields. On average, any college educated person who applies this approach earn significantly more income over a lifetime of working than a non-college educated person. The problem is, you have too many people today willingly pursuing useless degrees and then calling college a "scam"..lol. No, you're just unprepared and lack rational decision-making skills, because your parents and public schooling failed you.

Here's the thing about going to college, the student and parents, and or family should all do their investigation and research about what careers that student should go into. How that career works and actually pays and is structured, yes all of the quote unquote research that the college provides about the courses offered will make each field of study look attractive and lucrative, but unfortunately that's not how those jobs often really work. Often there's a real lack of those great jobs that they say exist on paper, often times I think that's ONLY where those jobs exist is on paper. I see to many college grads with degrees in many different fields with no careers in THOSE fields they attended college for. Only to often to end up in a career they didn't need college to obtain. Here's my story of how I went about my career and my brother and sister in-law experiences with college and their chosen careers. I went to trade school at age 21 for truck driving, got my CDL at age 22 and begin working as a school bus driver, which I did for 20 years now. I worked for a privatized school bus company for 3 years, and 17 years for a public school district. I loved the independence of the job, the kids, and my co-workers at this job (my work experience actually reminded me of Abbott Elementary) . I worked 40+ hours on paper with plenty of overtime, but in reality I only worked about 33 to 35 hours a week because of how our union and contract was structured I got paid like I was working more hours than I actually did. I was paid $25 an hour since around 2006 until I left, and only really worked about 10 months a year and made around $40k to $45 a year there, rarely did I not have a side part time job during those years, which allowed me to make $50k a year easily. Only about 3 off years during those 17 years I worked there did I make less then $40k per year working at the public school job. I left there now, but with a pension valued at six figures , I was paid a 5 figure lump sum on that pension, and will receive $4200 a year for the rest of my life from that pension. I'm only in my early forties right now. Also this pension, can be passed on, if I die then my wife will receive this $4200 for the rest of her life also. I basically never was hurting financially while working this career for twenty some years, and it allowed me to now look into other possibilities as far as a career goes. I'm not gonna make it seem like there wasn't any down sides, because when our contracts were up they changed allot of our perks and of course our pay structure was changed. That along with new management came in and restructured how we were paid all together. Now no one can really get overtime, which is really how you got paid doing that kind of job, and the overtime made it worth while. Hence why I believe theres a massive shortage of school bus drivers across the country, to underpaid and under valued. They simply don't want to pay us now for what we do. Now I have one half brother (half brother through my father) who is only 2 months younger then me (yes my father was doing to much). This brother went to school for film, and his wife (my sister in-law I mentioned before) went to college for pottery,... Yes POTTERY. They got married at age 21 and had a kid at that age, also a son later on. They struggled during their twenties, and thirties to get their mentioned degrees, often being backed up in their rent. Being evicted, getting utilities cut off and just going through it. They couldn't find anything with just a bachelor's degree in their fields, so they went for a master's degree. They finally obtained them, my sister in-law was in her late thirties when she got hers, and my brother was about forty when he received his. They still were struggling just to get those degrees even in their 30's because they couldn't find work in their fields and often worked odd jobs like they didn't have a degree. Just a few years ago while trying to get his master's my brother was literally homeless sleeping on people's couches while trying to attend school out of state of where, his wife and family were living at the time. Now a few years later they both have 2 great sounding jobs but the pay, IDK. My brother has worked on the HBO series The Mare Of Easttown, he was a locations assistant. Meaning he helped scout filming locations, and obtain filming permits to shoot at those locations. While my sister-in-law is a professor at UCLA for pottery. Again both of these jobs sound really impressive and great, but they're both temporary jobs. Most professor jobs are on a semester to semester basis, my sister-in-law has signed a contract for a certain amount of semesters. But it's not a long term job or career especially in her chosen field. There's just not a demand for a pottery professor out there, it's more of a specialty job. While my brother has to scurry to find a job once his job is complete. It's a constant hustle with their chosen careers to find employment. Plus the pay isn't that great, my brother received $40k for working on that HBO series, he often worked 60 plus hours and was salaried. While my sister-in-law makes around $67k a year as a professor, but they now live in Calabasas CA which is very expensive. And they rent a 2 bedroom apartment for around $3000 a month, that's a very small apartment, that and the overall cost of California and the temporary jobs, make me wonder was the degrees worth it ?? They have no savings, no home, and most homes out there are in the millions as far as cost goes. But this is where they have to live for my brother to find work in his field. So again college isn't bad, but without a plan and research on the field your expecting to go into, it can be a very expensive mistake. And oh by the way, they still owe allot on their college loans. My little trade school loan was paid off in a few years.

For those of you with multiple college degrees. Did you guys even stop and critically think about the financial & emotional burden going back to school to get another degree May cause? Not trying to be a dick here but why complain about the financial aspect if you guys didn’t have the money to pay it back to begin with. College got too accessible for everyone and salaries went down bc of the same reason.

You go to college to get a career in certain fields, not to become rich. Yes you can become rich being a doctor or pharmacist or whatever, but road to riches has many paths and only some of them are through the universities.

Talking out ya ass. Go to school kids. Stop being fools. I know school sucks but anything worth having is not easy. Each yr that goes by you are getting older and older it'll be difficult to go back than when you were younger. College is an investment in yourself and nobody can take that away from you.

People today go to college too early, they before they discover who they are, or meant to do. That's why some study biology, because their friends are in the same classes like hs

The only people who would think this are entitled mfrs who live in middle and upper class families how the fuck is someone with low income and no education going to be “rich”? U go to college get a fucking degree get a job THEN invest THAT money into what you want to do. Simple. I hate when people say “I never got a job in my field” well that’s your fault there are millions who did find a job

College becomes worth less and less year after year. You can get any information online, you can literally find Harvard or mit classes on RU-vid right now. It’s good to have the degree for the prestige of it but if you are going to turn a profit from the information you are getting you don’t need the college for it

Jordan is right, Vlad is arguing just because he went to college, he could've hired a student to create his websites etc. Kids today don't need college to make a million and it's great for the following generations.

Going to college is very important But what's more important is picking the right degree And that's all he's saying he said that but Vlad couldn't hear it Don't get a degree in something until you research how much they pay

Vlad totally lost this debate/argument 😂and I’m indifferent. The seat belt analogy blew it for me. 🤣So people should sign up for school and debt “just in case” even if in the end they don’t use the degree.

Most folks now these days who have these so called degrees that they don't use most of the times, end up paying and owning more to student loans and working at these so call Careers which we all know it's a dead on dead office job

Vlad/Jordan Belford, i think Jordan Belford is tight. We do not need post secondary education to succeed in life.....HOWEVER, in today's day and age the system "work life" is programmed so if you HAVE post secondary education......you do alot better financially. It's only becuase the government set up the system yo be that way.......otherwise, no, you don't need it.
