I'm going to say the quiet part outloud for the Packers. Rodgers was holding the team back, even during those 2 MVP seasons, because he didn't want to do anything different. Which includes holding the ball for forever, waiting on the bigger play instead of hitting the open man and keeping a drive alive. Look at the difference with a QB who is actually capable and willing to play MLF's offense? The team has been running it, keeping drives alive with short passing, and getting chunk plays when they're available. All of this helps the defense stay the hell off the field, lets them get a breather between possessions and allows them to attack more aggressively in the pass rush, because they're not gassed after spending most of the game on the field, because the offense keeps going 3 and out. Rodgers was great and still has 'it'. He'll forever be one of the greatest Packer players ever, but he let his ego get the best of him and he didn't want anything to challenge the narrative that it was entirely him making the Packers a success on the field. Which is partly why the team barely ever ran the ball, which is why he stopped going for RAC/YAC players, because all of that took away from him being the greatest thrower of a football in the sports history.

I believe Aaron was doing what he thought would win a SB regardless if he was correct. I think we should also consider what was said about Love obviously having learned a lot from Rodgers. Having him for those 3 years with Love is probably priceless. He did not act like Bret it is obvious from how Love plays. He passed on the knowledge. If anything Bret taught Rodgers what not to do.

Rodgers was always changing the play that Lafleur called, the Packers let him go for a reason. I will never forget in the 2020 playoff game against the 49ers with the score 10-10 with about 3 or 4 minutes to go with a 3rd and 11 Rodgers ignored a wide open Allan Lazard and threw a long bomb to his buddy Davante Adams that was covered like a blanket and it fell incomplete.

Tom Clements. That's the answer to developing QB's into NFL QB's
@williamhermann6635
@williamhermann6635 7 месяцев назад
Its not quite that simple. Mike Mccarthy and Joe Philbin also played big roles in Rodgers development, as well as Matt Lafleur with Love. Thats not to take anything away from Clements cuz he is a fabulous qb coach and teacher. But the true secret is time and reps. They say it takes 3 years and over 10,000 live reps to truly develop a qb. Most qbs never get that long. Remember Josh Rosen? Dude got one year and done. And he was a top 10 pick who was considered for the #1. And how many young qbs have to deal with 2 or 3 different HC's or offensive coordinators early in their careers? Justin Fields is already going on his 3rd OC. Lafleur is the only HC Love has ever known as a pro. That stuff matters. I love Clements, but he doesnt have some magic fairy dust. It takes a longterm development plan with the proper infrastructure in place for a quarterback to reach their full potential. Coaching is a part of that infrastructure and it takes more than 1 guy.

This part is completely wrong tho. Green bay did go to the nfc championship but having Jordan Love on the rosters completely cost them a chance at a superbowl. Anytime 1 of your 53 man roster is injured or a healthy scratch that totally effect who you are putting on the field. If they had picked a #1 wr then there are total expectations they might have won those games. It might be the right decision now but was a bad decision then.

Tom Clements also developed K Murray in AZ. He is a true QB coaching genius. His 400k salary does not reflect his actual value. If Jerry Jones really wants another super bowl ring before he dies, he should pay Clements 5 million per year ( or more). And the packers should match or beat that offer for as long as they can.

Packers screwed up with Rodgers. Drafting Love wasn’t that bad, but they clearly consistently disrespected Rodgers over a long period of time and wasted his career and skills. on its own the love pick is fine and kudos to Rodgers for helping him out instead of taking it out on him. And more franchises should learn from this and not start a guy from day 1. You’re never gonna get a chance to have them learn from a guy like Rodgers, but for example Panthers should have started a journeyman Fitzmagic kinda guy over Bryce a year or two ago
