@@ladiepink Horror is more basic such as grossing out, shocking, or jump scares vs Terror which is more refined which brings dread, a creeping feeling that may haunt you for hours or days, and/or fear/anxiety. I would suggest Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House" for a taste of a master at terror; then check out some short stories by Richard Matheson to get a peek into another master. They are not light reads but very enjoyable when you want some horror. Stephen King's novellas & short stories are a great mastery of both horror and terror in small doses. This is just to start.
I really enjoyed the anthology i didnt have any expectations except to find new black horror authors i had never heard of. Most of the stories were great i just wish there was context on why they were chosen. Overall i enjoyed the collection and effort.
I'm not sure if you know this, but Under the Influence was based off of Noelle's experience working for the influencer Rachel Hollis. Once I found that out I ate it up! It definitely wasn't perfect, especially Aaron's character. I did love the commentary about hustle culture and facade of social media.
I JUST DNF’d Do’s and Donuts which is a shame because Hani and Ishu got me out of a depressive spiral in 2022 so it has a special place in my heart. I also hated Out There Screaming. It just didn’t give.
Yeah the modern day timeline in Kitty Karr was sooo boring. the author dragged out the details for no good reason. The historical timeline was far more compelling
I really struggled with Out There Screaming. Even the stories I enjoyed a little were far from 5 stars, and I just felt like the finished product didn't deliver what it was pitched as.
Also this is disingenuous. Use these comments to spread awareness, not ask someone if they support Palestine to determine for yourself whether to follow them or not. Where are the resources you can direct us to for more information? What’s the name of the charities we can look up to provide our support? Y’all don’t actually care about Palestine and it sickens me.
