So many people look to Jordan for answers, assuming he's so put together that he isn't facing life as any regular man. I get the image of Atlas holding up the world. Father's understand this, people who have been through trauma and pretend to be OK understand this, any leader understands this and anyone fighting and too afraid to back down understands this. My philosophy has always been be strong, take a moment of weakness to release and be strong again. It's all you can do sometimes and eventually things change and you might be a little tougher, a little more resilient and a lot wiser.

So I know about addiction (pain pills, and I'm free of that shit now) and losing everything from career to all your money. The best antidote to suffering is to decide, once and for all, to stop suffering.
@drethethinker6418
@drethethinker6418 2 года назад
The only way to decide not to suffer is suicide. Until death you must endure suffering. It doesn't mean you have to be defined by how you suffer, and of course you can opt to ignore it and not dwell on it, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking that our psyche is so strong that it can end suffering.
@davereckoning9530
@davereckoning9530 2 года назад
@@drethethinker6418 I respect your view, but am sad for you, and I hope you can find a way beyond suffering. If it helps (and I realise you may have already considered all this yourself) example ways are: (1) To become insensitive to your own and others' emotional experiences. This is the psychopathic frame of mind - things are bad, but one does not suffer since one does not feel. I cannot recommend this approach from a moral point of view, but it is a way. (2) To focus only on what you can control, let everything else go. This is the stoic frame of mind, and one doesn't suffer (so much or at all?) since one resolves the things one can resolve and deeply accepts the rightness and appropriateness of everything else. (3) To become one with everything. This is Buddhist frame of mind, where mind itself is relinquished, along with separateness, and one doesn't suffer because there is no-one, no ego, present to suffer. (4) To reframe earthly suffering to become a precious, treasured gift from God. This is the Christian frame of mind, where one doesn't suffer earthly suffering, since that suffering is a transitory service to God and the world, and a glory which will be amply repaid later. (5) To become defiant. This is the hero's way - one takes on earthly suffering as a challenge to be learnt from, so that through learning one can become 'better' and provide something back into one's community as a sacred gift for which one will be remembered and honoured for ever. These are some of the ways, I am sure there are more. I hope you can find one that suits you and is achievable for you. My understanding of Jordan is that he mostly is aiming for type 5, but that he's been induced to take on a bigger community, and a bigger challenge, than any human can reasonably expect of themselves. I think he'd find more peace if he were to add a little more of type 2, the stoic approach, and I hope he can stand back and find the wisdom to do so, since it's not right, fair or necessary that he suffers so. Such an approach does not require a stronger psyche, just simple humility and self-kindness, together with an understanding that it it only right for others' to take responsibility for themselves, and that it is helpful to them to act in a way that encourages that. I hope that helps, as it is intended to, and all the best to you. Peace to all, have a nice day.
@drethethinker6418
@drethethinker6418 2 года назад
@@davereckoning9530 lol I am not going to spar with you, but all I am going to say is to love and lose is to suffer. Suffering and grief are a part of life and they are a GOOD part of life. Especially since suffering though grief means you had something great to lose and had a chance to enjoy it. Just like suffering to achieve something means you eventually get over a hump. Suffering is normal, like pain, and all these negative emotions....they are not the best part of our existence but they mean that we are alive. Suffering is not something to be ended, but something to be tamed.

The antidote to suffering is presence. Happiness is not a feeling it is the background of all feelings. So do not aim for external happiness. Find the happiness, bliss and peace within yourself which is your true nature. Like a blue sky clouded by other emotions, happiness is the canvas on which you paint. Your unhappiness only derives from either wanting to be somewhere where you are not or by being attached to an event in your memorized story of your subjective past. Being consciously present and in the now and practicing this will connect you to this source of happiness and peace. The more you do the more you will feel that sensation in the background of your daily experiences - a reminder of your source and the beauty that lies within being. You are not your thoughts and you are not your emotions.

To see what will happen.... Association of the act with anticipation despite the conscious acceptance of the idea of sacrifice is what brings this...this outburst which feels ...appearing helpless. Sacrifice assumes ownership and thereby control admist chaos, this initiates expectation which then creates the world of probability and possibility, shadowing reality or the perception of it and thus agony arising out of negative outcome and "happiness" coming out a positive, both being random, for the individual. That is karma. You do what you do beacuse what else would you do. Every book you have read, every person (so many of us) you have helped in so many different ways , you do what you could do to the best and provide contribution to this world. To see you, the treasure of wisdom in this reality...felt hard. Dr. Peterson is a gem, and deserves to understand that he is an karmayogi, without being aware of it. Loads of love for this man

I disagree. Aristotle points out that Awareness separates humans from animals. The ability to be aware. With that ability comes great responsibility. It is our duty, to ourselves, for the sake of the survival and ascension of the species, to "right" our "wrongs". Where we fail is within failing to act. Jordan knows there is suffering, yet the world is to large. His platform of viewership is enormous. I believe he needs to give more. At the last part of this interview,. I paused the video and am commenting. I don't care why he does what he does. He understands he has such an enormous "gift". He needs to teach these semi- educated/uneducated masses (Nietzsche) how to stop their own suffering and learn to ascend to a level that prevents extreme poverty, extreme violence, extreme overabundance, and the extreme waste of life that we a seem so eager to have become addicted to. I am grateful that Jordan gives emotion freely in this interview. It shows me he is most certainly human. With great power comes great responsibility... Galileo is a shining example. He risked his life for our own sake. To educate us further and to advance Copernicus. Galileo risked his life between 2 popes and the Roman inquisition, to show us what we were unwilling to see. Oscar Wilde did something similar. Susan B. Anthony did something similar. Gandhi did something similar. Martyrdom and the act of bearing witness, for sake of knowing what is best for mankind. I am homeless and have witnessed so much unnecessary death and suffering, because my country believes that homelessness is needed. When is the last time any of you couldn't sleep, knowing the scores of homeless people in your own community, sleeping in the snow, rain, cold, starving, even having to resort to crime just to properly "qualify" for shelter (a jail cell)? I deeply would like to work with Jordan, to hopefully convince him where to really put his efforts. He needs to help teach these uneducated societies how to "clean up" their own mess How to properly become accountable for their actions and furthermore, how to equate the human experience into something far more sensible than overabundance (the rich) and poverty (the poor).

Breonna Taylor. Trayvon Martin. George Floyd. And that's just on the "cops have too much authority and citizens do not maintain 'due process'" reality. Is that a delusion? Sadly, at least those people were correctly documented and honored, after they became deceased. Are the homeless in this country able to correctly be accounted for? How do we correctly count and document the dead homeless individuals in our community? We don't. They don't have a residence. Some do not carry identification. Unfortunately, homeless people that perish on the streets or in an abandoned house or in a dumpster or fall dead due to hypothermia or health issues are the "John Doe" and "Jane Doe", to be taken to a morgue, and to be cremated or buried, with no gravestone and no honor. With no one to claim them. Is this a delusion? Read Aristotle, Nietzsche, and C.S. Lewis, as well as Bible or Quran and come back when you decide to want to educate yourself, with the suffering your community endures. Daniel Byrd died in Macomb County Jail, in 2015. He tripped balls for over 12 hours on methadone, while being in jail for a nonviolent offense. Who gave him the methadone? He was tripping balls for over 12 hours? And no one noticed? We tax payers paid for his improper treatment. Is his life and death a delusion? And again, at least it was documented, or else he would have been treated like the dead homeless people in my community. They die. They are nameless. They have no one to claim them. No one to honor them. And they are forgotten. It is all very unfortunate. In my community, all "temporary rotating shelters" have been closed, due to COVID-19. There are currently only 2 shelters available for men in Macomb County, MI. The homeless have nowhere to go. I have nowhere to go. And very few, if any, actually care.

@@codydavidyates72 I appreciate the compliment. I disagree with how we justify (as a country, community, as individuals and as a species) suffering. Jordan Peterson will be in Detroit for the next 8 days. He is selling tickets to see him speak at $90 a piece, for 8 days. That prevents the most vulnerable class of people from gaining any kind of proper insight, through Jordan Peterson, as the "medium". I would love to sit down with this guy, but there is no access. I have to have a phone and internet and money and a job...I am homeless and was hit by a car. Whole populations of people go hungry, starve, are victimized and are at the center of the word "suffering". All Jordan has to do is be brave, like any general must be on the "battlefield". With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility. He isn't the only individual that I expect to balance out the imbalance of overabundance and lack of abundance. It is unfortunate. I've read his 12 rules book. You have to be given or have earned or be lucky enough to come across the word "Opportunity". You have to be able to recognize what an "Opportunity" is. If I am homeless and now I am housed each night at a place where I am viciously attacked, is this the word "Opportunity"? If there is no "Civility", then how can we recognize what "Opportunity" actually is? Especially if our lives are at risk...I mainly disagree with these people that are praised by people who have an overabundance of opportunity and that, just as well, have never had the "luxury" of having little to no opportunity; to flourish, to love, to be appreciated, to have purpose, to freely exist, in a way that is openly protected by the community. Violent felons are not protected by the community. Felons, just as well. Homeless people. People of specific "ethnic" origin. Disabled (physically and mentally) people are claimed to be protected. That is most definitely not the case. Jailed people are not protected. Children are not protected. The community cherry picks morals and ethics and obligations, to the narrative that the community agrees upon, and it is so difficult for all of to agree on how best to protect each other, from the harms of the community itself. Anyhow, I think Jordan should not be charging $90 a ticket to only allow people who are not impoverished to have a chance to "hear his words" on issues that I have firsthand knowledge of. Metaphysics by Aristotle answers this with "why does the manager of the individuals digging holes have more prestige than the individuals themselves who actually are digging the holes?"

@@JohnSmith-ue1du Unfortunately Jordan still has a family to take care of a family I might add that suffers greatly from autoimmune disease. He has a duty as a father and a husband to at least help provide for his family. Also if no one has to spend $90 I guarantee you his speeches would get crashed by those who hate him and his message. But to have to spend $90 to get that done requires a lot more conviction and malice to go through with. And lastly I want Jordan to charge for these tickets. I feel like the absolute bare minimum this man deserves for the obviously incomprehensible amount of moral and intellectual stress he has to go through daily likely even hourly. It takes a lot out of him to do interviews especially ones like cathy newman ect. He at least deserves to be able to provide for his family and perhaps leave some small inheritance for his grand kids. If we take away the money even how does he travel to other countries? How does he pay for everything he needs to go to these various places. Unfortunately and I empathize with your situation greatly. Things in this world are not free. I'm also not sure homeless people need to be told to pull themselves up accept responsibility and to pursue their goals in life. I am sure each homeless person is quite well aware of what they need. Being homeless you are likely constantly reminded of that which you do not have. Homeless people have much bigger issues than gender identity politics. And I really don't think homeless people have the time to give even a remote flying fuck which rat is in the white house. That doesn't provide them shelter for the night or put food in their bellies. Everything Jordan would have to tell homeless people they would either already know due to their situation. Or it would have such little meaning relative to what they need to be concerned about on a day to day. I wish it was simpler. But to ask any more of a man who constantly looks dead in the eyes and breaks down over the overwhelming amount of suffering in this world especially thanks to his so to speak stardom his intake of the negativity humanity generates is even higher than it would be as a clinical psychologist. To ask any more of a man like that is simply asking him to break. He is doing the best he is physically and mentally able to. Finally there is simply no justifying homelessness but there's nothing I can do to change it. The world is a cruel and unequal place. I may not be homeless but my life has not been kind. Drug addict and physically abusive parents. Backstabbing lovers and dishonest friends are the only stories I have to tell. And the more cruel part of the joke is within 2.5-5 years I will be dead. Cancer. I am 23. My doctor is not confident I can beat it. For a host of reasons I won't get into but the emotional negativity my life generated will make fighting this all the more difficult. I hope your life improves John and you can find some stability and hopefully a job or preferably a career so you can find some semblance of peace from time to time.

You should stop wasting time on passive aggressively putting people down like this and instead try working on your NPD before your self righteous God complex pushes the few people left in your life away too. Ironically, JP is a great person to help you deal with your out of control mental illness. You sound like someone who doesn't have any self confidence. You rely on being passive aggressive because you don't have a way of actually defending any of your beliefs outright and want to hide behind fake confidence.
