He mixes in very basic self-help advice with some really shitty and irrational beliefs. He's famous for voicing disagreement over Canadian bill C-16. He completely misrepresented what the letter of the fucking law said. He's never admitted he was wrong about that even though its been pointed out to him several times.

I admire the financial independence of people, But you can live better if you work a little more. After watching this I think there are people out there, on the extreme, who plan to die early just to be able to retire early. To each their own but to me, retirement isn't just about not having to work, it's about having the freedom to do whatever you might reasonably want, such as travel, buying things, enjoying life, etc. I don't think I could retire with less than $3m in income-generating investments, maybe $2m at the very minimum. I plan to work until I'm at least 45

@Rick-the-Swift
@Rick-the-Swift Год назад
I don't think history will be as kind as you. You should realize there are a plethora of people who believe as you do that Jordan is important and ground breaking, while a good many others, who are growing in numbers every day, who are coming around and realizing that he, like so many other modern influencers, is really more of a propagandist than he is saying anything new. Socrates changed the way humans thought forever, while Jordan really just scratches the itches that many conservatives have, and puts salve on their wounds, caused by the politics of the day, which mostly labels them as bad, intolerable people. If I could show you one video where it was clearly being demonstrated that Jordan is simply using clever, but rather old debating tactics in order to drive home the illusion that what he says is truthful, then imagine how that higher truth would begin to replace Jordan's often lower truth, which often relies on false statistics. Also take into consideration we are living in a day and age where people are craving higher truths more than ever, due to all the manipulation of information that's been wide spread for so many years now. When enough people are able to not only see the many flaws in Jordan's approach, but to also help explain it to others, I could see his work being shredded by the public in general in just a few short years relatively speaking.

@CasualDandyAkaSqwrty 8 месяцев назад
@@Rick-the-Swift I agree with you to a point, Rick. As he gets older, he leans on saying 'the leftists' more often, blaming them for ideas that are destructive. In this 4-year-old presentation, he was much more charitable to the full spectrum of personalities. Dr. Peterson is doing what he does 100 percent, and his beginnings focused on how roads paved to Hell ended up that way. Today he seems to continue this way, but time moves on and not every task requires the same hammer, so to speak. In my eyes, Dr. Peterson was and is an answer to tyranny of this time. His methods are proven (changes in people's lives across continents), but they are also dated to this decade. The pendulum swings both ways. JBP has pointed out authoritarian oversteps globally and tyranny that we face in ourselves through deep truths he has curated. Our course has been corrected to some extent, and as we take stock of our current surroundings we must decide what will be our new direction given our new setting. Dr. Peterson's work has guided many people to reconnect with archetypal stories, brought back meaning from dusty proverbs, and has influenced many people to emotionally connect with their spiritual side. I think the direction the pendulum now takes is that WE MUST form whole communities again through this spiritual renaissance. I think JBP compartmentalized our society, intentionally or not, by helping us define our personalities. It's up to us now to integrate once more and become stronger for it. He's a libertarian-gone-conservative, and balance would see the next great thinker to be a conservative who becomes a liberal, and one who comes by it honestly and lovingly.

What I like about his way of expression is that he doesn't try to force his position upon people that simply won't consider his perspective and are to full of themselves to have a serious conversation. He knows there's two sides to it and if one is not willing to receive, then there's no point in the other to convey. That saves a lot of energy and frustration and would otherwise makes a lot of speakers extremely painful to listen to.

Totally agree - the majority of interviews seem to come from a background of hate towards Jordan because they've only done their research of him on Twitter or by watching an equally aggressive colleague or peer try to attack him to make a name for themselves. I don't agree 100% with everything he says but I'm definitely in the high 90s% - even when his views are taken the wrong way by the left or the right or by a minority he only ever comes across as having the best ideas for how to move forward as humanity rather than stay on the car-crash of a trajectory that we seem to be on just now...

Think of the butterfly effect too. A tragic individual might haunt a family for generations to come (or might not even reproduce in such case), as equally as an upright individual can galvanize a family for generations. Not to mention the effect on people adjacent to them and their offspring. The sum total of that can become a pretty seismic difference in a whole community or even society potentially over time from one individual. It makes me think a lot about my maternal grandparents who lived in unbelievably tough and tragic times and lived for their children and grandchildren, there's a total of 4 of us grandchildren now who have every opportunity for us because they lived unbelievably courageously.

I guess when you consider all the hate that there is in the world, it gets passed around a lot. I don't think Jordan would admit it, not publicly at least, but I believe he's given plenty of indication that he actually uses the things, the ideals, and perhaps even the people he detests, in order to fuel his motivation to combat such entities. Personally I have as much love for JP as any other human that isn't my direct relative or friend, however I still have many trust issues with him, as I have witnessed him to be a master propagandist at times, even as much or more so than many of the propagandists who like to challenge him, and whom he appears to be disgusted with so often.

He was essentially pushed out of what might have been his own comfort zone (steady job, etc) but look how much he's grown from that experience because he allowed himself to be OPEN to the possibility that there was *something else* for him to be doing!! So it might be "sad" that the University screwed up and he's no longer lecturing directly to students, but (also thanks to them!), he's simply *teaching to a MUCH wider audience!* Hahahaha In short, he simply outgrew the University lecture halls. The more I watch JBP, the more I realize he is a father to the fatherless. Here is a little of my background and hopefully this bolsters my statement appropriately. My parents divorced at 17. I had a comparatively good childhood but I missed out on the part of the maturation process that really cemented my ability to say no to my own temptations. I feel that one of the masculine role model's responsibilities is to help curb your wants in place of attaining your needs, or at the least sacrificing for your future self. JBP has had me in tears, broken me down and rebuilt me through his wisdom that I missed out on. Thank you JBP, and Patrick for hosting him and asking extremely poignant questions, for giving me the pieces to put my life back together. It's still on me to make good on your wisdom, however without your guidance I would not be in the stable position, both financially and most importantly mentally, that I am today. edit: spelling

“Trajectory is more important than position” is one of the most powerful things he’s said 1:03:25
@rumfordc
@rumfordc 4 года назад
how did you not know that already
@ShifuCareaga
@ShifuCareaga 4 года назад
It's not correct. Shi is both position and trajectory, just as a vector is. Shi is even more complex than a vector. But in a vector you need both. The FEELING and PROCESS of the trajectory is more important than the position, but that's the subjective. Obviously the objective facts of your position are - at the moment - the most pertinent teacher. Contextually he is trying to convey something, but don't take it over literally. You can read about Shi in "The Propensity of Things" by Jullien or of course the Art of War by Sunzi

One truth conveniently left out of his talk: "The faster you rise, the faster you fall" or, "Life is always changing, to be ignorant of such reality is irresponsible at best, and catastrophic at worst..." Ex: Everyone in 1914, was %99 positive the war would be over by Christmas...The few authors who were telling the truth, were either labeled as "pessimist traitor's", or ignored all together. Everyone else finally realized it at the battle of the Somme in 1916.

Yes, but would't he actually be your mentor then? What would you bring to the table to befriend him? How would you be his sparring partner?

Garden Joy That’s a really good point. I couldn’t possibly be his sparring partner. Then again, I’m not entirely sure friendship requires that, but I could be wrong. But I’d love to be mentored by Peterson!

I have seen may of Jordan Peterson’s presentations for years. I have benefited greatly from his insights . This one is way up there. Mr Ben-David is somewhat new but my in tuition kept me seeking his presence. This one is with the two of them is powerful. I could babble on but will stop now. The idea that struck me tonight was how there is a key in riding the oscillation that is critical is the reality of how timid plays such a subtle but very important role as we live, on that snake that changes us over time and how that realization can comfort us in our journey. ♈️🌞

I can't believe people actually say bad things about Jordan. He's a blessing and a national treasure. All you have to do is spend any amount of time listening to the man and you end up just having to love him. He's an intellectual. He just likes to tell people what his views are on things and there's nothing wrong with that. Everybody has a right to their opinions and he has a lot of knowledge behind his. I think racism would be eliminated if more people would just exposed themselves to things they are unjustly biased, indifferent to or afraid of. In the end you'll see that we're all navigating the same challenges. We all feel and bleed the same.
