"Sometimes the objective world and the narrative world touch." This is, I think, exactly what JRR Tolkien was getting at when he told CS Lewis that "the story of Christ was simply a true myth: a myth working on us in the same way as the others, but with this tremendous difference that it *really happened* ."
One of the huge reasons why I’m always a Tolkien fan, his work was greatly impacted by his faith. You compare the structure of The Bible with his structure of The Simarillion and it’s overwhelmingly similar.
"the Word" was the term purposely used by the writer of the Gospel of John to describe Jesus. It was an intentional and direct comparison of the Platonic idea of the "Logos" (which means word in greek.). The logos in greek thought was the abstract ideal from which all things are made. In fact, John 1 even says that "all things were made through him, and nothing was made that was made without him."
@@monkieassasin it turns out as well that “Logos” was being used by Jewish writers of the Second Temple period (Dead Sea Scrolls) to refer to theophanic episodes in Scripture. The way that John the Evangelist brings those two threads together by his identification of Jesus with the Logos is truly amazing.
When you have enough intelligence to you know there’s more to the story than you can ever fully comprehend, it is very frightening. "Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known" (1 Corinthians 13:12)
You need to understand that his wife defeated cancer as the only recorded one in the world with her type. After she started to pray the rosary daily. That's why he believes and says it touches the reality of his actual life.
@@fish4096 Adam and Eve did, in a sense. This is a fallen world, because humans sinned. Some of it is direct, like murder and theft, some of it is indirect, like cancer. God values free will higher than the absolute absence of sin. And if we have free will, we can choose suffering, and if we live in a world where others have free will, they can make us suffer. That doesn't mean God wants them to do it. But he gives them the choice. And Jesus also speaks of picking up our cross. So maybe suffering is necessary in a sense. I don't have all the answers, but as far as I know, that is the introduction to it. But I think those children suffering from cancer have a much higher chance than me of getting into heaven.
I am so grateful for @Jordan Peterson. I have been struggling for quite some time with doubting my religion and christianity, but at the same time an inability to distance myself from it mentally and emotionally. It has caused me deep pain and discomfort to try and make sense of it all and to know what is true and what is not. To see other people, brilliant people like Peterson, going through the same, gives me some comfort.
Yea feels the same. I question myself why I should believe in something that I dont believe in. Theres a big dilemma. Maybe you have to fake it to make it? But thats not the way I operate.
I used to deny Christ in my pride and shunned Him out of my life, denying His existence. Let me tell you, He looked after me when I made every bad decision possible and nearly ruined my life and myself. He entered my life gradually. Once the door was cracked, He opened it gradually and gradually more, convicting me of sin, blessing me, correcting me, etc. Now He guides my every step and I am totally blessed. No longer am I sad, but God has given me peace. Seek Him while He can be found with belief and with your whole heart. Not only will you be rewarded for your seeking - as you will find Him, for He turns none away (though your faith will be tested to see if it is genuine) - but you will be in awe of the power and love of Christ.

I'm a Christian, and I can entirely get where he's coming from. In a certain sense, as you get deeper and deeper into understanding the nature of God: Someone beyond reality, Someone more real than reality. The idea that He is so great that His presence transcends every star and galaxy, but He is so knowing He knows everything about the universe down to the most microscopic detail, it is terrifying: almost like the universe itself is a liminal space that God transcends. Terrifying. Whether or not something is terrifying has no bearing on whether it's true or false, so if God is real, which I believe, it is important to acknowledge that reality. It is important to acknowledge the possibility of that reality, instead of hiding from that possibility in fear. Jordan Peterson is definitely someone who understands that the Christian God is a God of immense holiness, but I feel like his fear of the unknown is preventing him from looking into Christianity more.

The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
God doesn't have a son. That is why he is the creator and we are the creation. Jesus a creator of God like any1 of us. Like the other prophets also. No difference

He’s not a drug addict @Tom Giannini. It’s sick that you use that to diminish him, because this discussion about faith is threatening to you. He is an extraordinarily genius man who has gone through some horrible struggles, and God has used these experiences to bring him to a deeper place. I would tell you to try to keep up, but there’s no way your shallow and dismissive self would even hold the door for a man like Dr. Peterson.
@Tom Giannini - serious adult discussions don’t feature ad hominems, aspersion-casting, or faulty/hasty generalizations. As a healthcare provider I can assure you that many people become dependent upon prescription medications; this is not a reflection on their character nor their abilities. The fact that you think this is even relevant to bring up in the context of this discussion is embarrassingly stupid.
That's the Holy Spirit, Dr. Peterson. He's moving you so strongly I can feel Him through this video. it is that synchronicity, the Holy Spirit, that brought you to this point and I know brought me to this video because I really needed to see this, especially today. This was the most uplifting thing I have seen in a very long time. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Lord jesus? And why not lords shiva, ganesha, aphrodite, thor, allah, huichilopoztli, etc? Religionists discriminate, it’s understandable. And why not none of those silly fictitious entities? Why is it so hard to understand that all gods, bar none, can only live in our stupid imagination. Show me evidence and I’ll stop being obnoxious, deal?
@@guillermodozal7166 nobody owes you anything. i dont know who gave you this idea that the world revolves around you and that if we dont pull out a well written 59 page essay on how Jesus is real, that that somehow gives you the go ahead to be a massive prick. if you want to believe it, do. if you dont, dont. thats it.
you know what really is the most extreme terrefying; realizing your life is actually real. people (myself included) live like it is a dream, this realisation is too hard to realize.
"The difference between Christ and all other mythological gods that were born in the solstice is that Christ actually existed". -- Olavo de Carvalho, brazillian philosopher
Game on. Because of this, Christianity is a tainted religion, as all throughout the bible-belt, believers are worshipping pictures, and statues of a man. If you don't know why that's sinful, then you don't know the meaning of the terms and are better off leaving language to those who are actually literate, while you go argue pollute your mind with arguments about who's going to be the next *American Idol.* Need I be clearer than this? Shall I start counting to ten?
@@ladymercy5275 I think Christianity can be helpful if one doesn't take it literally and reads it as an archetypical story in which Jesus Christ actually *is* the truth. Seeking the truth at all costs is the way to go. And the truth is much different than what we've all been taught to believe. Problem is, I don't think most Christians do this, they tend to just conform to dogmatic beliefs and take the story literally.
Its so terrifying to fully believe in Jesus. In a manner of speaking hes right to believe in a God that would come to us in the flesh through Jesus Christ to die for my sins, your sins simply because he loves us it is terrifying but also glorious as well this is love thats incomprehensible. Before the creation of the universe he knew every single one of our names.

Being newly sober, especially after being numb and deaf to emotions for so long then finally beginning to feel again is a pretty profound thing to witness or have happen to you. Glad to see Dr. P processing on a real level of honesty like this and being vulnerable in conversation again. He's truly a scholar to the highest level.

I love this guy, one because he's so clearly very intelligent and secondly because he cares so much about the worlds pain. But sometimes he's too clever for his own good, think too much and you end up being the opposite of being what you preach. Take it easy Jordan, your too important to lose.

The Holy Spirit is shocking him and calling him, so he is emotional...that is Christ’s power. May he find the place where he can just let go and rest in the faith belief. So many of these comments are as touching as this video because each of us who believe have had to step over the fence from unbelief to belief and for me even after 42 years it stirs a deep emotion within myself as I recall the moment I saw myself as a sinner in need of a savior! He is a good, good Father 🥰
Why not call the savior Santa Claus or Roger Rabit and just believe that he payed the price of our sins? Can you explain why you exactly choose to believe in the story of Jesus? A story that is hard to prove like most historical evidence. What made you go "Ok so I now choose Jesus and he is out saviour"? I think this is a question that I need real answer to.
@RU-vid TruthLife When we seek Him earnestly, thru prayer and Bible study, He will come to y personally and show you Him, Himself. We have to want a Savior, in sincerity, but to do that, we need to begin to understand why we need a Savior. He will show you the Way. Once you know Jesus Christ, you will never unknow Him. Faith also comes from Him. Step into the ring some, and maybe allow Him to prove Himself to you. We cant, we're just believing people. I'll pray for you too.
@@youtubetruthlife4750 There must be a first cause. What started everything. Things in life boil down to belief. Science deals with unravelling reality, with facts. Until science gets to, 'where did the first energy come from'. Religion also runs out of steam. But they believe God made the first energy, and created. But the actual reality of God, his essence before creating, well, Religion will never know this. We can only analyse what this mystery created. That's us, and the cosmos. We can play around in that space, with our little arguments and beliefs about our reality. We are resultant, we emerged, we are contrived. I will say this though. We are all (including the first CAUSE) seeking exquisite LOVE.
I think we need a Saviour and are reborn once we sacrifice all our being to fully serve the truth regardless of the consequences. When we die to ourselves we are spiritually born. At least for me. I never Consciously seen my physical sins in one moment. Rather over a period of time things that served the flesh became worthless and there more and more of the figure of christ revealed. The idea of sacrifice the greed of the flesh will reveal more of the meaning of life. And also christ. Does that make sense? @ashleyhunt6022
I’m a big enough person to admit i’m just barely getting this but what I do understand is powerful beyond words. It would be like if you grew up on Superman movies and one day you’re walking around and run into him. That but if Supes was the savior of mankind and the son of God.
Once u "find & accept" Jesus, u can never let go.. I often cry when I think about Him, but not because Im sad.. on the contrary.. those are tears of pure joy of a mind overwhelmed by knowledge and belief that someone loves u unconditionally (*agape), someone who came from the heaven where there is no death, pain etc..and accepted pain and death so u and I could live.. I also must say that I feel sorry for all the souls who are rejecting this type of love.. I hope they find their reason to change their minds.. As long as you breathe, its never too late.. Shallow minded people might call it "unfair" but God is so loving that even in final moments of your life, acceptance of Him will get you saved.. What more can u ask for? It is not appropriate to use the term "bet" but if I could, I would definitely bet my whole life/being on Jesus and his teachings... 1 Corinthians: 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[c] 20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 1 Corinthians /3 18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness”[a]; 20 and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”[b] 21 So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas[c] or the world or life or death or the present or the future-all are yours, 23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God. Hard to understand but at some point of my life I understood this.. And after that nothing was the same for me.. Jordan is struggling but if he wants to meet God, he must let go of human logic because humans are mind limited.. Jordans logic can go only as far as his limited intelligence allows him to do so.. Jordan seeks for logic and reason in places where God doesnt dwell.. In case of Christianity we need to believe, thats why its called faith.. I had way to many miracles happened to me (got cured of cancer overnight and many more..) that doctors could not explain with current "world" logic.. Jesus is alive and we should be thankful that we have that amount of power on our side..
Wowww “Jordan seeks for logic and reason in places where God doesnt dwell.. ” perfectly put👌🏿 I gave my life to Jesus last year, I met His loving, peaceful presence in my room, in that moment he showed me I was a sinner & that He still loved and accepted me.
