Cain means to inquire. King's inquire from Eunuchs, Priests, Prophets, even from formiliar spirits of old, ore the dead. The Tiller formed from dust , to till the ground of the earth. His seed was Cain the tiller of the ground. Abel was the seed of the man put in the garden to dress and keep it, after the rivers were formed. Abel was the keeper of sheep. Now Cain was a gotten man from the LORD, Eve said when Adam new her the first time. Unlike Seth who was apointed as a son by God , to replace the seed of Abel, In the likeness and image of Adam. Genesis 4 and 5. The father upon the children's children till the 3rd and 4th generation who hated the LORD for cursing the ground. That would be the generation between Jarred and Enoch. The offerings were by faith to the first born sons . But the iniguity of the fathers unto the woman who was transgressing against God , caused the children to be of nature to their seed through one woman. Eve the Mother of all living . The LORD respected the offering of Abel , because Abel was the seed of the heavenly kind of man as the second order of created image on earth . The first order was the earthy who became a living soul . The second order would be the heavenly who is the quickening spirit. The first born rights , aswell as the blessings go to the first born as the Chief Ruler of Eden . Not of the other nations . Abel was dead and his voice could still be heard from below , due to understand the offering of blood where life is given to the woman , as she shall bring forth life as a help meet (perpose to help ). Gain braught a offering from the ground wich was not as nature provides it. He should have braught fruit from the trees that the ground provide to the fines their of in trees as part of the vinedresser . The sin that was not forgiven was transgression against the LORD WILLINGLY AMD KNOWINGLY, That is a sin not forgiven. To make it worse, Thy blamed one another and dit not repent before God . This resulted into evil continually in such a manner , their was no ballance between good and evil . Only evil . Genesis 6:5-7 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. That is why it is called the first death of waters and Repentance. Known as Noah's flood. It required the baptism of John with water and repentance, as the prophet of the most high. Now the baptism of Jesus with the Holy Ghost and fire unto the dead , is required for the second death known as the lake of fire and brimstone . Hallo !!!

Absolutely amazing lecture. There's so many people that write off the Bible completely without even giving a Glace to a single page, but Peterson humbly admits to years of struggling to understand and then when he finally does he extracts such rich meaning that conveys God's truth in a way that bridges the gap between religious and secular scholarship in a powerful way.

Yes!! This is why he gains so much respect among both religious and non-religious. He teaches life lessons that stem from the Bible, without the Bible. Really let’s those who are religious, be religious and those who are not can still learn without being dragged into something they’re not. Personally am a religious person, and though I try not to push religion on others, as I wouldn’t want them to do to me, I think people like me, and those around me who don’t shRe similar views can learn from Jordan all the same!

The Bible is not an ordinary textual book. You can never understand the Bible except The Holy Spirit opens your heart and mind to understand it. The sacrifice God required was a blood sacrifice of a lamb unblemished. Able brought one , his brother brought fruit and vegetables. God refused Cains, and accepted Ables.

@@poppybow3208 You are right. I find it interesting that even before Cain and Abel, God was showing His way of redemption as soon as Adam and Eve fell. This took place in the Garden, just before they were expelled. God kills an animal and sheds its blood by doing so, in order to clothe them with its skin. This demonstrates the future when His own Sacrifice on the cross covers our sin before the Father and His blood makes atonement for us. Similarly, Abel is a demonstration of redemption, as are numerous occasions in the Bible. Like Abraham, Rahab, Boaz, Joseph. The whole Bible clearly speaks of what is evil and fallen, and what is good. Light and darkness, acceptance and obedience to the most High, or rebellion. The sacrifice that we are expected to make are no longer lambs and bulls etc., our sacrifice is to obey and follow Him - it costs us and our egos everything - like the rich man who wanted to follow Jesus but didn’t want to make the sacrifice of giving up his riches. The sacrifices that pleases God the most is when we offer up our ego and stubbornness and choose to trust Him in all things by investing our trust and faith in Him in all things.

Holy moly. This man's analysis of the what I thought was simple story is astonishing. His ability to dig another layer deeper than appears on the surface is amazing. If I am being honest I can understand why he gets so much hate. His words make one reflect on their very own position of reality. His analysis made me admit that I suffer from the spirit of Cain. Not the surface layer murderer element. The judgemental and resentful thoughts are my battle. Makes me realize that I am responsible for my own misery. I need to learn more about this "pathologizing" everything bc I am pretty sure it is also another mental battle I find myself in.

The Cain story is the beginning of Torah, the law of the Hebrew Israelites. This was the first murder in the Scriptures, the first crime that is codified in Torah (thou shall not commit murder), and so with each story the law increases until there's 10 commandments that are incorporated into the 613 laws of Torah. The story is telling you the laws that will be codified by Moses, laws that became Torah in the Old Covenant age of Israel. The moral laws from Torah remain in the New Covenant age of Christianity.

To Add another layer. I like spotting the 'Picture Types' in the Old Testament. It suddenly dawned on me that Abel is a Picture Type of the 'Son Of Man' He is the second son as is Jesus the second Adam. Abel's Sacrifice was Perfect as was Christ's Sacrifice. We are like Cain our Sacrifice is imperfect and brings death..... but God still saves us from death, as he did Cain's Life. The other interesting observation I made is that Cain was Marked so that he would not be killed. We are also Marked with the Holy Spirit of God so that we might Live.

@@jovandjordjevic2388 I don't think that's possible. Notice how he said "you can't deny". Denial is what puts people there, nothing else can. You have to keep denying the truth, over and over again and lying to yourself. When it happened to me, there was no escape. It was indeed devastating. But because I was forced to face it with no way to lie to myself anymore, I now had the means to break it. And what are you going to do? Face it, realize the truth, be given the means to end it, and then not end it? I find that incredibly unlikely. Unless you're just talking about something small, like being caught in a lie or something. I'm talking about a big self realization that there's no way out of. It happens, and people rarely go back. They want to go forward, so bad was the pain that the realization caused. They generally want nothing else to do with that behavior that brought them such pain. I mean real devastation here, not someone getting their wittle feewings hurt or angry or irritated.

I have lived a life in the line of Tubal Cain, a mechanic, machinist, metal smith, proud of my "lineage", it's been natural for me almost over sixty years, and this is the first time I fully realized the lineage as it truly falls. I've served as a Marine two decades, and lived away from the Corps twenty five, I've spent much of my life in "good sacrifice", and paid dearly for the not so good. I've never been moved, understood the backstory of Cain and Tuban Cain, any time in my sixty five years of life. I live among farmers, I serve them, and have since leaving the Corps, and now I do understand why, I've finally gotten right, really. Your words really moved me, after watching this. I was saved in 83, because of the preaching of the raising of Lazarus, and the focus on the Centurion, of faith. Jordan is an incredible teacher. Semper Fi

To be honest his interpretation is not really new and he misses the point of the narrative because he doesn't tie it up properly with the entirety of scripture, the main point is, Abel came to God through the blood, because without the blood there can be no forgiveness of sin, and Cain came to God by presenting the fruit of the ground, the ground that God cursed because of Adam's sin, he came to God trying to atone for his sin with works, and that's why he was rejected.

What Jordan in this lecture pointed out to me is that I am closer to the archetype of Cain than I would like to admit. That the people I despise for being in better shape than me or more adept socially or getting all the girls haven't done anything to me but that it's me who have sinned, fallen short of the goal. The reason that I have failed is that I wasn't humble enough going into it and offered up second rate offerings to the infinite. As Jocko's personal philosophy would put it you are responsible for all things that happen to you. and when i "tried" and failed I accepted mediocrity and thereby set myself up to fail. As master Yoda would say "Try? TRY??? Do or do not, there is no try!"

We all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God. Jesus is our Abel and we are the Cain. But what we do next is exactly what determines our future: We can either worship Jesus for going all the way to making the most precious sacrifice to God any human being can make: On top of His time and money and a good standard of life and safety and security and popularity, He sacrificed even His own rights and His own dignity, and to top it all off, His own life. For this act of Righteousness, men scorned Him non stop for 3 hours straight, but like a Lamb led to the slaughter, He did not open His mouth. But then came the really tough part for Jesus: God forsook Him for another 3 gruelling hours, because at that very moment, Jesus took onto His shoulders all of our sins. So all the sins of humanity was literally focused on this One man, Jesus. But eventually, this was over. Our sins, which seem so innumerable, so unforgivable, like mountains and mountains of debt we could never pay off, Jesus the embodiment of the Infinite God, Love incarnate, made it obvious that even the debts of all humanity to God and to each other was finite and can and has been paid off in full by One Man. If You choose to look upon this Man as your Friend, as your Saviour..... Well, you're blessed and saved. But if you choose to hate Him because He's more righteous than you or I or anyone else, or even all the rest of us added together can be, and wish He never existed, it becomes impossible for you to profit from His sacrifice. In a funny sort of way, the Free Will God gave to us as our irrevocable Gift, can be our greatest blessing if we choose Jesus, or our greatest curse, if we choose to refuse Jesus. Our own eternities are in our own hands. One choice determines it all. Isn't that a terrifying responsibility?

The humble sacrifice of Praise and being Thankful, coupled with a willingness to do good unto others, with no expectations of return. It has so favored me with a life that tho I have struggled, suffered, gone thru great sorrow, cancer, horrific accidents that should have killed me...i live a life of Amazing Grace. And find that being Aware of Gods Love for me, being Thankful, that my offerings of Praise in the telling of those Stories to strangers, to help them discover THE WAY, IS SIMPLE, THE WALK IN CHRISTS FOOT STEPS MADE ONLY DIFFICULT BY OUR OWN SELFISHNESS , THINKING ITS ABOUT US... ITS ABOUT OUR WILLINGNESS, AND my choice...and my constant amazement at how even before I ask, answered, needs met, healings, strength, supplied... YOUR UNDERSTANDING, RESONATES WITH MY OWN, and in agreement with J.P., Gods Word is like a maze, to follow the stories doesnt lead to dead Ends, but to new lessons , we must, be willing to change, our inner ugly self, to be Thankful in all things is to realize all of Mankind is Blessed, freewill the Gift. Struggle the test, but to keep trying brings victory. Selfpity, feelings of resentment, victumhood, unappreciated and continued feelings of unworthyness is Cains Mark and so hatred grips us. Always, God has Loved Us, it is our demands for instant answers, for not understanding that God's ways are not ours, but still we will Deny that God is.... wide is the way, many called, narrow the Path..few find it...

@@arleenwatson2076 Thank you. Your words remind me of so many verses. Including one in Isaiah 55 about God's Ways being higher than our ways and God's Thoughts being higher than our thoughts. And how Jesus says He Is the Way, the Reality and the Life to the Father. And how in Hebrews, Paul writes that through crucifixion, Christ Jesus cut open a fresh, new, living way through His own flesh cut asunder through His sufferings on behalf of our sins. And, of course, Elijah getting stumbled, because God didn't seem to be there for him after he performed this massive miracle/sign/experiment where he literally kept everything exactly the same except for the God called upon. And the fake god did nothing. But even though he sabotaged his own side of the experiment by pouring water over all the stuff he promised would catch on fire, just by calling upon the Name of the Real God, it did get completely consumed by God, because it was a bonafide Burnt Offering, and that's literally how you're supposed to do it. But then, Jezebel said that she was going to get him and kill him and do to him what he did to her prophets of Baal and Asherah, and he totally freaked out and ran away as fast as he could to the mountains of God. And after God miraculously fed him twice, God showed him that He was not in the big, noisy objective miracles of fires and great wind and earthquakes, but rather, in the very subjective personal experiences of His still very quiet voice that nobody else can hear and people might make fun of you for telling them that you're hearing voices, because people are mean. And people are mean, because mean people were mean to them first. And those people are mean, because ultimately, Satan played a really mean trick on Adam's wife and duped her into luring her husband into it. And then, Adam and his wife learnt how to be mean to each other, and their children learnt how to be mean to each other, and now, all humanity is very good at being mean to each other. Satan is like a teacher of everything we're not supposed to do and all humanity is his diligent pupils from day 1. I think Jesus was the first person to always say no to Satan and to always say yes to God. Nobody else quite managed to do what Jesus did. And even though it got Him crucified in the end, He was raised up from the dead, because there was no sin in Him, so death had no dirt to hold Him by. And somehow, Jesus is taking us with Him, just because we latched onto His Name. He's flying us away upon His wings like a Golden Eagle 🦅, far above the maddening crowd, to where there is sweet music playing only for us!

Powerful message. It reminds me so much of one of his debates in which a member of the audience asks him about his “clean your room” concept. And some people present in the debate tried to comment about it in a demeaning manner. It was sad to watch because so many “educated” people there could not understand the impact an individual’s personal life has on his/her society. If you are not able to manage your own affairs adequately you are simply fooling yourself into thinking you can fix the world. Looking at Cain’s actions I can understand that even better. Everything we do and decisions we make affect generations to come within or own bloodline. I can tell you it’s true from personal experience. My parents chose to undermine the sanctity of marriage and parenthood for lust and prioritization of self. Me and my siblings have been paying for their actions ever since we were born. We have been outcasts within our own social circles. And I am not saying we are innocents, but the outcome of our present lives has been greatly influenced by their actions emotionally, financially and in many other ways. Sadly they still fail to recognize that. My constant struggle and purpose in life is currently not to fall into the same path. At least offer a better options for the children I will hopefully have one day. I just need someone that shares the same degree of understanding in this matter.

Oh Why have you been denied that? Father says it'll kill us. It won't kill you. (Implying Father lies) enjoy it...it is your right....nothing should be denied you....EAT. Well is this not like a good teen that grows up in a harmonious home, but then takes the exciting council of a hood down the street. A hood that says steal the car and your mom's purse to buy drugs. Abel as a sinner offered a life for His life, Caïn as a proud person offered the Works of His hands or tried to make an exchange with God
@leadlefthand
@leadlefthand 2 года назад
Yes - this concept becomes clearer in Leviticus where it states that without the shedding of the blood, there is no remission of sin. Cain and Abel's story is a symbolism of the righteous man (Abel) being made righteous because of the blood of the lamb (alluding to Jesus Christ paying for the penalty of our sins as the sacrificial lamb that was slain), whereas Cain was trying to earn righteousness by his works, which no one can attain.
@fernandaabreu5625
@fernandaabreu5625 2 года назад
@@leadlefthand That's an amazing analogy, thank you! There's also though the fact that Abel offered his best and his first, whereas Cain offered what was left and soon to be discarded. I'm screencapturing your comment so that I can read it from times to times, it's amazing how the study of the Bible and Its allegories NEVER END. It is truthfully the divine work of an all-knowing True God.
@leadlefthand
@leadlefthand 2 года назад
@@fernandaabreu5625 - You're welcome. Yes, the Bible keeps on giving the more you read it, so there's really never a point where anyone can say they've read the Bible enough. Every new reading will always be rewarding, and things that seemed puzzling at first makes sense the second, third or fourth time you get back to it. In the case of Cain and Abel, the story reinforces the symbolism used in the Bible where the animal sacrifice symbolises grace, where as plants (the fruit of one's labor) symbolises works. Hence in Genesis chapter 3, when Adam and Eve made aprons from figs and leaves to cover their nakedness, it wasn't acceptable to God and instead, God slew an animal and covered them up with animal skin. That was the first time a sacrifice was made alluding to the sacrifice of Christ on the cross whose blood covers our sins/shame (spiritual nakedness): "11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." - Romans 10:11 Deuteronomy also has this same symbolism: "Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together." Deuteronomy 22:11 The wool is clothing made from animal skin (shedding of blood). The linen is clothing made from plants (fruit of one's labor). And back in the Old Testament, it wasn't allowed to wear/make clothing that mixes these fabrics, which is a symbol for not mixing works with grace. On the surface level, this particular law of not mixing fabrics doesn't make sense at all. But once it's viewed in its context, it makes perfect sense. But these connections won't immediately be seen in the first reading, which is why it really pays to read Scripture over and over. And all these connections are made with just the one topic of grace. The moment you start looking into the other themes in the Bible, then it becomes clear just how deep the Bible can go. And it's amazing to see just how tightly nit all the books are in expounding on all these themes despite being written by numerous authors spread across more than 3000 years. "19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." - 2 Peter 1:19-21

@@leadlefthand Thank you for this clarification. Abel knew what sacrifice would be acceptable because GOD performed the first sacrifice to show Adam and Eve how they could atone for their sin, in the beginning of the Bible, in the book of Genesis. I also find it remarkable how the blood of the lamb or goat, ox or bull would cover and blot out the sins of the Hebrews - the people God chose to bring his message of love and forgiveness through atonement by his "only begotten Son, Jesus," to the entire world. This is a wonderful example of foreshadowing, which shows how the Bible is indeed a Holy, transcendant & Divinely inspired book for all the ages, and is a coherent work that validates itself through it's 66 books, it is a consistent message. As the Bible says, "His Word will never fade away." They are good for all eternity, & truthful & Holy Spirit inspired. The Bible was a gift to us for the sole purpose to record how God revealed how we can know a personal God who loves us, His Creation, and if read or spoken aloud, "will draw all men (and women) unto Me." The parallel you pointed out - ultimately described Jesus' death on the Cross for the Redemption of all people who believe Jesus was God, as He said he was.

My understanding is simpler When you do something wrong, you are plagued by guilt that makes you hate and not respect yourself. That eats you inside to the point which it drives you in a murderous rage whenever you come in contact with anything that reminds you of your hatred for yourself. And if you do not love or respect yourself, you cannot love or respect anything else. To the point that even seeing something sincere and good makes you go out of your way to destroy the good because it reminds you of the lack of good within you. And that makes you hate yourself more. To the point that they act as if they hate the entire world and everything, when the truth is their guilt is killing them and they hate themselves. Thats what I believe.

Abel was pointing toward Christ, the son that would be able to bring appropriate sacrifices who would be killed by his brother. Cain was pointing at us saying, you do not bring acceptable sacrifices and what our response to that spiritual reality is. In hearing that response we did not repent but rather killed Christ. Then God’s mercy to Cain is then foreshadowed by his mercy to us, but his punishment of “when you work the ground, it shall no longer produce its strength” signifies that we will never be able to bring an acceptable sacrifice. This is corroborated by Hebrews 12:24 “and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel” EDIT: I had mistaken Abel to be the firstborn, but was later corrected so the comment is edited.

Jordan is a gift showing revelation in scripture I have never seen in my lifetime in the church 🙀
@fernandaabreu5625
@fernandaabreu5625 2 года назад
I've always been under the same impression. If you think about it, the Church has had for literal centuries the most brilliant men talking about the Revelations in the most amazing of ways, such as Saint Augustine, Saint Tomas Aquinas, Saint Albertus Magnus, Saint Geronimus and many many others, but for the last few centuries these spectacular spirits have just been outcasted from the Church. I can only conclude it's the work of the devil to truly stray us from our Father above and His unfathomed Love, His profound, beautiful mysteries. The only thing I hear about at Church is helping the poor, poverty, community work, volunteering. There is NOTHING about Salvation anymore, there is NOTHING about the harsh words spoken by John Baptist, there is NOTHING about evangelizing or santification. I find it ridiculous. I was an atheist for 14 years, always carried on with volunteering and donating, the importance of donating is nothing new for any of us and no one needs Church to be human: we need the Church to BE SAVED BY CHRIST. And for decades the clergy has simply neglected that immensely, vitally important role before humankind. Pathetic. Now I go after these geniuses on my own and more often than not even older people at Church have no idea what I'm talking about should I mention the Church Doctors' reflections. What a failure.

OMG at 3:00 it took me more than 4 years to understand what he meant through all lectures and all angles about this concept. I now understand, not only the simplicity of personal demise, BUT seeing my own very conscience as a judge of myself, we all need someone/somewhere at this stage of our life. Let's not do what we hate and let's speak when we have something to say, as simple as it could sounds. Otherwise, you'll understand what he means by thing getting worst later in life. Don't think it necessarily relate to the hellish environment in its sense but in your mind. His thesis (of summing/relating to the greatest thinkers of human history) in its wholeness is perfect. It is seemingly impossible to refute (if you have an tiny bit of good sense).

Being forced into the world at large was a huge penalty, but then founding what Christian tradition considers the first city might just have been his second sin. Seeing it admittedly requires a bit of reading between the lines, but Cain seems to have walked a darker path and must surely have made a lifetime of mistakes because of gravitic burden of his curse.
@donteatthemushroom
@donteatthemushroom Год назад
because Cain can only process what was said to him through the lens of victim hood, he was told that he is actually in control of the outcomes of his life and instead of embracing the knowledge that he can have control of his circumstances he rejects it because he doesn't want the responsibility of acknowledging that he was in part responsible for the negative things and circumstances he had manifested.

A very deep and important analysis by a younger Jordan Peterson. But he got one important point wrong about the Cain and Abel story. When God asks Cain what happened to your brother, he does not say I killed him. He actually says "I don't know am I my brother's keeper?"...violating the commandment about not lying. Which as Jordan Peterson says warps the structure of reality. By the way, the question am I my brother's keeper? Now that's a question worth pondering.

@@hermansnodgrass2652 Maybe - but the Bible also says the law of God is written on our hearts. And in Romans it says "Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it." Cain knew that what he had done was wrong. If not, why did he just not say what he had done - "I killed him - so what?"

Jordan Peterson certainly one of the most articulate. analytical orators of our time. Gifted and charming with an eloquence which is rare in itself but when added to the intellect and emotional honesty and high moral standards he demonstrates both publicly and as far as I can determine in his private life consistently, then clearly we have in our midst a human being reaching for his full potential but not selfishly for himself but essentially for the entire human race and the conciousness.of sentient beings. This I personally believe is the aspiration of the creator of all we can see and all that we cannot. The last line I wrote leads me to this concept and my analysis of the teachings of many if not all of the numerous religioms created by men throgh the centuries that the creator and feel free to use the appropriate name your religious group identifys with and the teaching is that God knows the entire future of all things as he did when he created each and every atom of energy. Forgive me but for me this idea is ludicrous and ridiculous. Trying even attempt to understand what God is in my opinion is beyond our comprehension in the form and frequebcy we inhabit. These alledged tales by men of an angry God a jealous God etc are clearly written by men. I'll end with this conclusion I have reached by taking the concept back it's root origin that God created everything and knows every single atom of movement to the end of exiatence and we know it. Then if that is an absolute truth then the God we have been relating to must be a child of a family of many supreme beings and he is playing with the little game created for his entertainment. Waken up to the deceptions we hve been assaulted with by the archons who have ruled this world for so long for we are in the midst of their final assault and genocide which is very real and it is now. Theceator gave us all the freedom of choice and he trusts us all to connect with him and listen for he lives within each and everone of us. Resist the evil we are being confonted with as without your consent the dark forces are rrendered powerless as we all are soverign beings protected by the power of God. iin conclusion that is my rationale in knowing that God does not know the end our existence as he gave us the gift of reason and choice and as we are his finest creation as stated we were made in his image and we can choose to be the weakest or the strongest and most beautiful of all his creations and he trusts in us to fulfill his aspiration and deliver our souls back to his kingdom of heaven. I send you my blesings and love.

Just an amazing analysis - like many here I feel I too have a bit too much of Cain than Abel. I really do appreciate Dr Petersons views and how he is genuinely trying to help anyone who's willing to listen in this life, however something just struck me (and for those who love and follow Jesus like me - this might be comforting) Abel was the first person EVER to be in paradise with the Father, Jesus, the Spirit and all the angels. Imagine that, pure alone time with Him. Talk about the perfect compensation for the first victim. Like many others, I struggle to see through the perspective of Eternity enough but sometimes a small glimpse and a realigning of my perspective helps any doubts and fears to subside and peace to comfort.
