I'd argue introspection is necessary. critically evaluating your own mental AND emotional processes is the only way to identify blockages that prevent you from engaging fully with the outside world. How can you repent for your sins if you do no internal work?

Did you watch the entirety of the video? Perhaps even the longer form podcast will give more context. Of course we need to self-reflect but we must not stop there. That is the argument. We need an anchor for our soul, hope that is beyond ourselves.

Narcissism is the lack of appropriate introspection. A narcissist will have a surface level reasoning for every flaw of theirs and they will displace the blame on everyone else. The beauty of psychology and religion is it eases the way we see our biases, flaws , and blind spots that we inevitably possess. Pride isn’t introspection I don’t know how you equated those two concepts together. What person goes to therapy and doesn’t leave with humility? Or understanding of their flaws? Or reconciliation with their past? Someone who can’t look inward will always be lost

Only several years. What part do you disagree with? The point is simple. Self is a sinful foundation. Jesus is the foundation we need because he is perfect and an anchor for our soul.

So what I’m seeing is that everyone agrees with the speaker that relying on SELF is a trap BUT you disagree that this is the idea that Jordan Peterson presents. Please send me videos of him that show me this. (Truly willing to change my mind)

I think this is a flawed understanding of introspection and self-help as guide to living. One cannot truly dwell in the internal universe without being connected to the one without. So it is not solely one sided, except it is untrue and a means to an end. No one is saying to leave it all to your whims and sinful human passions. If anything, mastering of one's self is a basic necessity to reign in on the negative things listed herein, which are not only what the 'self' comprise of. To master one's self and introspect amidst the 'noise' is the stuff of kings and high value people who achieve much in life, find their purpose, rooted in found truth, unswaying from the gullibility of the wind. Strong in conviction and unwavering in truth.

The message of Christianity is not to be mastered by SELF. We are already mastered by self when we sin and have no control. The answer is to mastered by someone is greater than us, for Jesus to become our master. Under his lordship we become a new self which is transformed. The argument being made is that you cannot stop at SELF. After all, the SELF is where our problems stem from in the first place. So looking for the solution from the same place of the problem doesn't add up? You need an anchor for your soul, one beyond to put your hope in.

Jordan Peterson always preaches subordination to something higher to guide the self, this is a dumb misinterpretation of his views. He talks about introspection within the context of resisting ideologies which conflict with one's soul, groupthink and telling the truth. He believes that the individual should look within themselves with the end goal of eradicating their own insufficiencies, not to be prideful. If this guest actually took the time to listen to jordan peterson engage in long form discourse instead of getting to conclusions after watching youtube shorts, he would find that most of the views he expresses are similar to jordan's.

@@Pillars_of_perception I’ve watched quite a lot of him for several years. I’m not sure what I’m missing. It’s a simple point. The central point is building a foundation of life on self. The self is sinful. The only true foundation for life is Jesus who is the rock in which we can stand upon. Jordan Peterson is not far off from acknowledging this truth but he’s not there yet.

JORDAN PETERSON COMPLETELY CHANGED BY LIFE i had social phobia since a child for 34yrs of my life that I couldn't get rid of. His self development was the turning point in my exposure therapy and completely exterminating my phobia. Not only did i have a phobia i was suicidal. Jordan Peterson completely changed my life.

Glad to hear. Not arguing that everything he says is wrong. But the emphasis on SELF does fall short of a greater wisdom. Putting trust not in self but in God.

I think you’re misunderstanding Peterson’s argument here. I would argue that it is a very biblical idea. The main argument is that you have to realize your wickedness and shortcomings and then you have to realize that the ultimate way to escape the hell that brings is to fix your aim: that being Truth. Peterson may not use the correct dogmatic terms, but he is certainly pointing people to truth that the Holy Spirit can move on.

He's applying biblical wisdom. You're vocation doesn't mean you are the authority on all matters of living. Jordan Peterson can be wrong. He says a lot of good but he's also a human.
