This video is basically about the twilight of being a young adult and not being sure what kind of person she wants to be. This is made more difficult by her position as a national superstar, as she was forced to "grow up" too fast and seem like an adult before she was ready, thus the whole motif of "you can't tell by my face which doesn't reflect the heart." Furthermore, as she's getting older, she's more interested in some more "mature" things, but still wants to hang onto her childish innocence that she hasn't had time to enjoy for most of her life. Most of this is reflected in the imagery of her being contrasted with white innocent dresses and more "hot" mature outfits that show off her figure, as well as some general contrast between childishness and violence/sexiness. I'm sure there's a lot more to talk about, but Jieun's videos are so loaded with meaning and symbolism that I could barely scratch the surface tbh.

Just want to add that many of IU's songs are deeply personal. While the theme was about 23 as a come-of-age time full of confusing and conflicting ideas, suggestions, and forces that pull you in different direction (particularly in IU's world as a successful idol), the references included in the MV are real experienced that took place in her life (such as being called, fat, two-faced, pampered, etc.) Ultimately, she maintained her direction and steered her career to even higher peak. This album is also when she started to gain for song writing and record production.

thank you sooooo much for reacting to IU!! This era was kind of tough for her because of two controversies during this era but she came out of this stronger than before. I really reeeally recommend listening to the whole minialbum and actually all the songs have video teasers with different concepts so I think it would be great to watch them maybe on twitch? I also recommend watching Palette (feat. G-Dragon) which is her 2017 comeback. You can see how the lyrics transition from being unsure and insecure about her own identity and path to accepting herself with all the little things that help creating the "whole painting" (= the palette). Agh I would just tell you to listen to this album as well but I know it's a lot and I'm already grateful you're taking your time to listen to the title tracks. One last recommendation is Good Day, the song that brought her a huuuuge popularity for the concept and VOCALS!!!! She was just 18 but she nailed her famous 4 high notes

Yes iu is seriously gorgeous She's not real And that's the song that got me into her... Specially after seeing the lyrics about age and thing I felt somthing wierd..It was kinda relatable..I never check lyrics before this song but after seeing it lyrics I started to pag attention and appreciate songs with good lyrics

Bit that's a bit difficult to understand, for those of us not fluent in korean: she sings in 2 voices, in the verses, one is the regular, clear, pure IU voice, it represents the face she puts on in the industry, and then she responds to it with a new, different, very breathy voice, that says all the things she's not allowed to say. Each verse then ends with IU asking the audience which is real, and then leads into the chorus.
