What a freakin' hard song to sing!!! No one will ever be able to nail those notes with the clarity and commitment that Streisand did (save say Celine ), but Jordin did very well!!!! She's a fantastic singer! I could listen to this girl sing all day.
Jordin Sparks is not only beautiful but has a wonderful voice to go with her beauty. She definitely did the song justice and I am sure Barbara Streisand who sang the original, would be proud too. Well done!
Of course, I am a Huge Barbra fan, I just felt some people criticizing Jordin were being unfair... because Jordin was very young here and she is singing Live, and of course when you're inside a studio, you know that even if you make a mistake, there's always another take on the same song to perfect it, so you can take more risks there... But of course I prefer Barbra Streisand as a singer too! Anyways, this was a great performance by Jordin, and she was brave by singing it Live! ;)
Life is a moment in space When the dream is gone It's a lonelier place I kiss the morning goodbye But down inside you know We never know why The road is narrow and long When eyes meet eyes And the feeling is strong I turn away from the wall I stumble and fall But I give you it all I am a woman in love And I do anything To get you into my world And hold you within It's a right I defend Over and over again What do I do? With you eternally mine In love there is No measure of time We planned it all at the start That you and I Live in each other's hearts We may be oceans away You feel my love I hear what you say No truth is ever a lie I stumble and fall But I give you it all I am a woman in love And I do anything To get you into my world And hold you within It's a right I defend Over and over again What do I do? I am a woman in love And I'm talking to you You know, I know, how it feels? What a woman can do It's a right I defend over and over again I am a woman in love And I do anything To get you into my world And hold you within It's a right I defend Over and over again
Well there were a few pitchy points, and sometimes shrieky... but goddamn I remember this was probably the boldest, hardest choice of song that entire season. And I doubt anyone on AI from any season couldve sung it better. Very good considering the difficulty level.
Yeha the judges were right when they said she was falling off all through the song, but then again it had it's good moments (ecxspecially "it's a right I defend" the first time) and when it did she shinned like the sun! And plus I like her, so way to go Jordin Sparks!~ Because I have to tell you something right quick: when she sings I swear that sparks fly!~
But sometimes it's impossible to pretend that you never heard the original and quite difficult not to compare the two versions. This is especially true when an AI performer chooses the signature song of an extremely famous singer like Streisand, Whitney, Mariah, etc.

She has a good voice, but unfortunately falls into the recent Female-Singers-Trap of excessive wailing (or the hiccup-effect as it is called). Often Less Is More, and with her voice, she doesn't need the melodrama.
No. Expressiveness is good. also she's showcasing her voice and where she might not add bells and whistes in a commercial release, in a singing competition demonstrating range and technique can be advantageous. After all, she stays on key and her tone is beautiful.
Yes, the problem is also if they chose an unknown song they will generally loose on the popularity vote. I think as long as they don't butcher the song they should choose the most recognizable song that is vocally challenging, but within their range.
the problem with american idol and any other singing competition is that you will always compare their performance to the original and you shouldn't. just listen to their performance as if you've never heard that song before
I don't know, but you might as well try, right? go jordin! (and for the record I actually thought she was really good but then again I've never heard the song before)
