Hey guys, Manny Monteiro here (Manoel Monteiro). I was Jaco's percussionist/drummer at the time... I remember playing that gig with Jaco and Jorma at Lone Star Cafe! I can hear Jerry Gonzales on trumpet, I've played drums on the first 3 songs and then played percussion with Rashied Ali on drums (the order of the songs on the recording was edited). I recognize the sound of that cowbell cos I still own it! I hear my agogo bells, my surdo, my reco-reco, and my cuica! Kkkkk Crazy Crazy Times! Hi Manoel ! I just found your comment sent 4 months ago. Thank you for all the details you mention. I am so glad you found this amazing recording that I saved for years and I do not even remember who gave it to me ... a friend collector. I hope you are still doing good and healthy through 2020, a nightmare year. Peace & Love from France my Brother !
: so cool to find this and your comment Manny Monteiro!! i'm a longtime fan (at least i thought i was!) of all these guys and i had no idea this happened!! thanks for adding your note and sounds and safe blessings to you!!
Two fantastic surprises ! First, thank you for the details; I have been searching to find informations and it is all there. Then, second surprise, I am discovering that YOU are a member of the band !!! Thank you again, but this time for the music delivered that night. You guys were awesome. A close friend sent me this tape years ago and I do not remember who ... maybe one of your friends ?
Pretty frantic and pushing the beat tremendously. Jaco sounds like he's channeling Jack Bruce on Kansas City....this probably just all in fun and not concerned with anything but jamming for fun.
Can you buy this somewhere? I have an old cassette, but it's quality is so poor. Who is singing on Kansas City? I know Jorma's voice, and it ain't him...
Tu as vu Jaco & Jorma au Lone Star Cafe ? WE ARE EVERYWHERE ! ... Quant à la date, je sais qu'ils auraient joué 2 ou 3 fois ensemble et celle-ci correspond aux informations reçues il y a plus de 30 ans.
Thank you for your comment, Peter ! I knew Jaco had been involved in a fight but I do not know the details, if it was his fault or not. I went to see Jaco performing in Paris in early '80s and recorded the show (This Jaco/Jorma is a copy I got from a collector fellow). In Paris, Jaco was bad, I mean really bad, he was often going backstage during the show, I guess to do drugs, and he neglected the audience, he acted like an asshole. I was so sad, I came back home and stored the tape without listening it. I still have it about 40 years later ... have not heard it yet. I remember the first time I saw him with Weather Report, I had a blast, he was awesome but I did not have a tape recorder back then. All the best to you Peter, take care and stay alive !
Well, don’t you think it’s time to break out the tape you made ? I mean, I get it, t was a shitty situation and this hard to get past that. But there might be some good music on there. Aren’t you curious ? I sure am.
Doesn’t sound like Jorma at all on the guitar . I saw some of these shows when I was a kid. Too this day I love snd listen to all Jorma has made. These shows were pretty awful. Noteworthy bit not very good. Seemed like some guys trying to raise some money. Should have been a great musical collaboration, Jorma is not audible here. There was another guitarist
