During the strong bantamweight era who was conquered by the non arguable number greatest bantamweight of all time Eder Jofre and the legendary japanese fighter Fighting Harada, There was a dangerous mexican puncher which they both respected so much, and his name is José Medel.
He is one of the most underrated boxers of all time. He has solid wins over Jose Toluco Lopez, Eloy Sanchez, Manuel Barrios, Edmundo Esparza, Manny Elias, Herman Marques, Ignacio Pina, Sadao Yaoita and Boots Monroe and has also knocked out fighters such as Fighting Harada, Seki Mitsunori and the beautiful boxer Walter McGowan. He also manage to beat the devastating power puncher Jesus Pimental and has proved his skills against his two wars with Eder Jofre.
Even past his best, he still gave decents fights and fought against the likes of Chuco Castillo, Lionel Rose, Evan Armstrong, Efren Torres, Royal Kobayashi and Ruben Olivares.
Medel was indeed monstrous at fighting off the ropes, a right sneaky counter. He never possess a crazy amount of punching power, but he has incredible handspeed, technique and precision. In the way he set traps and sprung them, he nearly took McGowan's head off in the first round. Brilliant at punching from nowhere with disguise and fuse-tripping power in either hand. but sometimes he could be too relaxed, he usually looked with his back to the ropes and he was a relaxed fighter in general, very seasoned and at ease against a wide variety of good to great fighters with different styles. The type of fighter where you could see the cogs turning in his mind.
