its sad that modern era fans know him as the guy who connor knocked out in 13 seconds. He should be known as the guy who turned Faber's legs into purple sausage
Haha spot on man watched the vid the other night holy fuck he’s got some brutal leg kicks, gotta take my hat off to faber for taking so many tho I’d take 2 and be on crutches
I came into the sport around that time and it was honestly the 1st time I heard of him. I just always go back, and watch as many fights as possible, to see how great the fighters tasks are. I grew an appreciation for him. My 2nd favorite fighting style, besides Cub's. KING OF RIO!
Agreed. No one can deny him being in top 10 ever. Regardless of his perhaps lack of activity during his reign or how he lost his championship, there was a point in time where he was the P4P No.1 and he will always be one of the OG’s within the UFC, when you see the love Brazilian fans have for him you can’t help but respect the guy.
Definitely became underrated after Conor beat him. If you count his WEC title reign, he was the youngest UFC champion, he had 9 title defenses, and was champion for over six years. The man is an absolute legend
Definite legend, but not a UFC OG. UFC was 18 years old when Aldo debuted. He was a whole generation after Couture, Liddell, and Tito. The true OGs are Gracie, Shamrock, Severn, Coleman, etc.
@@sil-80nick I get what you’re saying but if you consider the inauguration of the lighter divisions in the UFC Aldo was the man, and that itself is a big part of the development of the organisation.
“ Thats just evidence of how hungry he his” Chael when his sons tummy is grumbling “ How much do you have left in the tank?” Chael asking his wife if they need to get gas “ I think it’s a remarkable story” Chael’s son taking about the bedtime story Chael just read him
idk, maybe i would have to rewatch the fight, but i thought aldo looked pretty damn good until the end of rd3 when he got cracked with a nasty hook right on his temple, seemed like it fucked up his equilibrium and he wasnt able to recover for round 4. then marc goddard’s bum ass wouldnt stop the fight when he was getting pounded out for two straight minutes
The yan fight was most impressive. I am an aldo fan and I thought that was the end. Three rounds later yan almost gets outclassed by an elder statesman
Muitos fãs 🇧🇷 brasileiros precisam assistir esse vídeo. Precisamos valorizar o guerreiro Aldo como ele merece. *Wish lots of Brazilian fans watched this.
One legitimate badass talking about another. We're truly blessed as fans in comparison with other sports, and we should feel fortunate that we have Chael here every day of our lives.
I had to back catalogue to discover José's greatness because unfortunately my intro to him was the Connor fight. I remember thinking "wow...that guy sucked"
@@ChrisARC that’s not true. Every fight aldo loss except for McGregor was competitive and he looked in great form. In the Holloway losses, Aldo was leading on scorecards until he got knocked out in 3rd round in both fights. Even the Yan loss, was highly competitive and looked to be an even matchup until Aldo got overwhelmed. Tyron on the on other hand doesn’t look competitive in any of his losses nor does he even look like he wants to be there.
@@boogiedownbronxny4214 I agree with you. I wasn’t comparing their performances, just mentioning that regardless of how nice Aldo looked in those fights he didn’t pull it out and I don’t think he can, especially against Yan. I like watching Aldo’s fights; I hope he doesn’t retire anytime soon..
Aldo has had so many very good fights over his career. Brown, Faber, Hominick... All fights I think I will re-watch this holiday season. You should too.
Following you on the past few months, listening to your comments and understanding the rational behind your actions back on the Anderson's fights, makes me admire you as a combat athlete and as a person. I believe your last video on Jose Aldo's career and performance was nothing but perfect. Kudos and keep up the great work.
Happy Holidays, Unc'... Hope you and the family have a great one. Your the man, my man. Keep giving our community the honesty and integrity the sport deserves. You are a true ambassador of Combat Sports, whether it's Grappling, Wrestling, or MMA. Kids are proud of you.
Jose Aldo was the first generation of super fighters , guy had it all power speed endurance, superb striking world class jiu jitsu he had it allllllll! , he’s definitely a blueprint for fighters of today
What I think is Incredible....is your ability to tell a Story! Thanks, Chael! You have a interesting way of seeing things and a true talent to intertain your audience with your analysis. Keep on going! ( A brazillian fan)
Aldo came back from his loss to win the featherweight title again against Edgar.imagine coming off from that Conor fight to prove himself the best again.he is a 2 time featherweight champion. And in contention to fight for the title again. He will forever be a legend
Idk what slowed Aldo down with his leg kicks. Prime Aldo was known to chop your legs and by the 6th or 7th leg kick, you were compromised. I think he may have injured his leg over the years, so he does not throw them as much as he used to. If that was not a problem, he would still be champion in my opinion.
Like it matters but Jose Aldo is my favorite fighter ever. Even at 34 Jose’s still a top threat on any opponent he faces. I was a fan ever since WEC & decades later still at the top. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Insane that people underestimate Aldo. It’s not like his chin is gone, McGregor knocked him out but since then he’s lost by gassing out and volume. He’s also a former longest reigning champ of the division above. I guess Frankie Edgar was the same but Edgar was clearly hugely undersized and is also 5 years older than Jose so it’s fair to seem him as an underdog against prime KZ etc.
One of fights I always wanted to see when they were both UFC Champs was Pettis vs Aldo. Too bad it never happened and it probably never will. On that note, I hope Pettis goes to Bellator. Would be a tremendous accomplishment to hold WEC, UFC and Bellator belts along with the prestigious Wheaties box. Back to Aldo. It makes sense why he called out TJ. TJ was the guy that gave Novo Uniao a black eye when he dethroned Barao. Aldo wanting to avenge his school is a great storyline that many new fans are missing out on.
Jose Aldo is one of the greats. I am a big fan so I hate seeing him Lose but that day he fought Conor I though he was unstoppable and I really thought the world was going end when he lost lol. Aldo deserve way more respect! Forever one of the very best to ever do it!!!!
Demetrius johnson? It’s crazy how the ufc and their company guy chael Sonen won’t admit he’s the goat. Suplex to arm bar greatest finish ever. World champ in every organization he entered and has more records and 1sts than anyone
You're not entirely correct when you say Aldo never had a chance to rematch Chael. Jose had a chance to fight McGregor when Dos Anjos pulled out, yes it was on short notice but Aldo literally said "anywhere anytime anyplace" making it sound like he was training non stop and focused and obsessed with a redemption fight. Then when Dos Anjos was hurt, he was literally the first guy they called to come up to 155 and fight Conor, I think they were even gonna make an interim belt on the line. Jose not only had a chance at revenge, but a chance to become a 2 division champ, but he turned it down citing a lack of time to prepare. That was when he lost my respect, that and when he celebrated Nate Diaz's win over McGregor. Nate Diaz who stepped in on the same short notice Aldo was offered and got the job done. McGregor is the giant black eye on an otherwise epic career. Not just because of the humiliation of being koed in 13 seconds, but how Jose handled himself on social media afterwards. Conor lives rent free in his head forever.
I Fully agree with Cheal except his concept of how Faber chose his fight. He also can count his blessing and wait to see if tj get that belt and that Would definitely mean something to faber because One of His Actual protege's that one of world title and quote on he felt betrayed by him and that whole scenario and also how great faber is he never won a world title now that's like master coming to take and show why he's the master.
The only way I'd want to see TJ vs Faber is if it's Dillashaws first fight back since he'll probably not be as good as he was when he was active. But if not then I don't want to see Faber fight again. Aldo vs TJ sign me up idc if TJ has been out it's still an interesting matchup.
I think of Shang Tsung (Mortal Kombat) in MMA. Especially When one fighter beats an elite accomplished fighter (Khabib beating Conor good example). Its like Khabib took his soul and every accomplishment Conor had obtained, now became Khabib's. Hopefully this makes sense
When Jose was the WEC champ, he was #2 pound for pound in my eyes. When he kicked fabers legs right off his body I was certain he was the baddest dude on the planet.
...who says America doesn't bow?...but only to greatness...it took less than a minute for the world to throw everything that Aldo had done away...do not forget that over the body of the Iron Sheik was Hulkamania built...the reason Hulk was big was because he defeated someone big...everyone remembers Conor, but they forget about Aldo...Conor was so big because of who he beat...they had Kanye do the song!...do not forget about Jose Aldo...
Man uncle chael u get these facts wrong all the time it was 13 secs the fastest in male ufc title history but that's the reason we all love ur clips cuz we no its all of the dome no script none of that its all freestyling and adlibbing it has mistakes but it shows real and true reactions
Think about this, aldo has fought everybody who's somebody at 145 in the history of mma...I'm not taking ufc, im talking mma in general and now he's competing against the best 135 has to offer, put that record against anyone else, I dont even remember anyone who done that much work except maybe rda but I struggle to think about another champ who's seen them all...probably Amanda nunez
