If I asked you what the first thing is that comes to mind when I mention the "Cuban Mafia" in the United States, most would say the movie Scarface with Al Pacino. Those more immersed in the history of crime will remember the coke dealers, whose wars in 1980s Miami almost drowned the city in blood.
However, few will mention Jose Miguel Battle and the “Corporation” gang, and that they were the ones who received the very name "Cuban Mafia". Battle began in New York as the owner of a small underground lottery that in the States is known as a numbers game, and rose to the head of the organization with a total of two and a half thousand members.
The Corporation made millions of dollars a week, competed equally with the Italian Mafia, built casinos in Latin America, and in the world of Cuban organized crime was an authority even for the before-mentioned illegal substance traffickers from Cuba.
And if you're interested in hearing about the most powerful Cuban gang in the United States, then meet The Corporation, on the other side of the law.

The book "The Corporation" is the authority on this subject. I was a homicide investigator during this time in Miami and had one of the murders they did. I'm also good friends with the lead investigator on the Bolita task force, so I can tell you that the book is excellent and accurate.

Making gambling illegal is stupid. The only reason the govt bans gambling in non casino settings is because the government cant get its share. The govt wants its cut.
@Dangerous_123-f1j

It is more complicated than that. Gambling like drugs is very dangerous. Even if drugs and gambling are legal, society will suffer because of them.

Yea I hear you but there weren’t many Spanish actors say like an Andy Garcia who could’ve played Scarface or Carlito. And I am Cuban. First generation American and proud of it. I thank the states till this day for letting my parents start a new life here in Jersey. I’ll always be grateful to the U.S. government for that. I wasn’t a saint but I’ve never betrayed nor spoke ill of my country the United States of America.

Look meyer lansky and santos trafficante had a lot of exiled Cubans loyal to them from the casino days in cuba . After santo and meyer there Cubans went into coke hard . If you go ask any Miami Cuban who ran Miami in the late 70’s and 80’s and early 90’s ? it was willie and Sal ! And I can name 10 other guys who were legends on the streets of Miami to the Cuban community who had big crews . I’ve asked so many old school Cubans about this guy battle and granted Miami Cubans . They have never heard of him. Now obviously he was big time up north but his impact here in Miami I feel is inflated. Willie and Sal put people through college, paid for countless feasts and Christmas presents for poor exiled families. They even gave friggin houses to people in need I’ve seen it . John gotti , the chin , joe Colombo , Joey merlino these men had deep connections into there communities . It’s part of being a boss . In Miami we don’t know this guy at all . But we all know willie and Sal and few others . And I can speak to this because I was there .

And then sent them to Miami to “taint” America. Most of the Cubans that were involved in gangs and drug trafficking in Miami were already poor in Cuba or lost most of they’re wealth and had no other choice. Fidel Castro himself was a drug lord who helped with the Colombian cartel read about it 😂

I’m Cuban and I’ll tell you there was no Cuban mafia . The closest thing to that was santos trafficantes Cuban associates he brought over from cuba . There were dozens of them . They were fkn tough and would die for santos . Sounds to me like this battle guy was a trafficante associate. Santos family lead the Cubans . I know this because my father was one of santos close associates and was with him since cuba until his death . The reason I’m guessing battles crew was considered a ‘mafia is because he ran his crew as an associate of cosa nostra .
