Most anime movies don’t even end and you just have to guess the rest. This was a complete movie

@@andrewbobat No I mean that this movie also ends like every movie, I mean runtime not just story which is obvious, but I liked that it's story was complete unlike other movies which I always wish that it should end quickly, but not without telling the whole story, but this time the story was so good that I wondered that I can watch their story forever (if animators are willing to do 😂) even though it's complete

I heard that this is closer to the source material than the live action movies as in the novel they did have a happy ending.

The director wanted a more positive turn on the story, both in Kumiko and Tsuneo's relationship, and with how they portrayed Kumiko's special needs

@@studiosnch I love that decision because it gives more hope and happiness despite the hole theme of disability causing despair. To me it doesn’t make sense for Tsuneo to ditch Josee when he clearly saw her as someone worth the ocean he dreams of. In the end he got to chase his dream AND be with Josee.

Oh yes. People seem to expect it to be really sad but it's actually very sweet, motivational and wholesome. With a very positive ending.
