A well-orchestrated, authentically reworked recording of the Wiener Philharmoniker's beautiful rendition of the lesser known Strauss family member Josef Strauss's "May Roses" piece. The composer is maybe one of the first known "hobby-musicians" as he was also a trained engineer besides his remarkable musical work. The flow and harmony of the strings and percussion represent the full blooming May roses as best seen probably in a 19th century Schönbrunn castle garden setting.
Fabio Luisi again perfectly conducts a Straussian masterpiece. As many his other performances with Wiener Symphoniker, this one surely belongs to the best recordings of Josef's great op. 34. Already the introduction itself is so beautifully played that it becomes evident that it surpasses any other recording of that waltz.
One of Josef's more livelier and less expressive waltzes. Just shows that he is capable of being more lighthearted in his approach. Very different to his Herbstrosen which is much more reflective. Both excellent works
