This film didn’t get a “bad reputation”… responding to the poster below. It won many awards, and as a classically trained pianist, vocalist, and master teacher, I can say that this score is probably one of the top 10 of the 20th century.
It did well at the box office but it wasn't well received by film critics, mostly for the lack of true horror, true romance, action and the deviation from the gothic style the book actually has. And Keanu Reeves terrible acting, of course. It has a 57 at Metascore. And it didn't win many awards, it won 3 Oscars for: costumes, sound and makeup. Amazingly the score wasn't even nominated for any mayor award and Kilar was never nominated for an Oscar
For me this is perhaps the best in orchrstral terror music and he conducts the track of the brides at a faster tempo than it is indicated in the score; sometimes directors doesn’t understands the real essence about what is written, for then to screw music composer’s effort.
Anyone else notice how many of the orchestra had tears running down their cheeks? Especially during the part where Dracula reveals himself to Mina? It was the most heart rending scene in the movie.
When i use to play band in highschool I noticed that playing the music is more enjoyable then just listening to it. It must be such a pleasure to play this.
I love this A masterpiece as the music enriches movie as a Whole… DEEP DARK LOVE … Brams Dracula one of my most loved movies… I can watch over and over again
The nominees for best musical score for 1992 are Howards End, Chaplin, River Runs Through It, Basic Instinct and Aladdin. There are some famous names scoring all of them but Alan Menken got the Oscar for Aladdin. I won't argue much with that but to snub Kilar's masterpiece is flummoxing. Can anyone remember the tunes from the other nominees?
The recurring theme of longing and yearning is heartbreaking. The shift from the bass sounds suddenly lifted by the strings section in Love Remembered is so mesmerizing.
This is a really good performance with lots of expression and energy. I'm amazed by the sheer size of the orchestra: full choir, winds, and brass in fours-the same size orchestra Kilar used on the soundtrack.
00:07 Las Novias/El Castillo (The brides/e.c/The castle) 02:28 Mina/Elizabeth (Love Remembered) 04:25 Cazadores de Vampiros (Vampire Hunters) 07:54 La fiesta (Lucy's Party) 10:00 Mina/Dracula (Mina/Dracula) 15:57 La tormenta (The Storm)
Considero a esta pelicula como una obra de arte algo fundido en un todo la historia la musica la imagenes y el transfondo son sólidos fuertes indivisibles bellos .
Very Satisfying and Awesome video , as soon as the video ends I`m surely rewatching this version , It pleases me Very Much in rewatching and rehearing this Very Awesome Version too. Thanks To These Professional Musicians and to Everyone Involved in Making This Masterpiece ;) Thank You So Much Uploader 👍❤
GREAT GREAT rendition of Kilar's work here, hands down. Talentosos todos los maestros en este ecenario desde el coro hasta cada uno de los musicos, the director a genious and a telented individual . IM PE CA BLE lIstening to MINA and THE STORM rendition over and over again ..Inmense thank you!
The Party goes very fast, It is slower and makes sense. Also, a marvel. Excellent all. An incredibly beautiful soundtrack. Forgotten and ignored. A shame.
Amazing, love it. Great melodies. From movie -> Dracula : I cannot let this be. You will be cursed as I am to walk in the shadow of death for all eternity. I love you too much to condemn you. Mina : Then take me away from all this death.
@@philthefox1948 I'm not very knowledgeable about this, I'm a doctor. However, I enjoy good Music and understand a bit about leitmotif. This theme is melancholic, nostalgic, and towards the end (when they use the French horns) somewhat hopeful, and it's my observation that it's quite a difficult to bring out all of these in one theme. This theme could have been a good one for Severus Snape.
To live across time ,smell different centuries like a wolf sublime. To fly in the mind of darkness sad but with love of time past and that love beats mine.
@@clankers8929 Coppola mixed elements of the Nosferatu story with the novel and recreated the Borgo pass scene from Symphony of Horror as well as copied the wierd shadow movement ( from the Vampire Lovers as well) , another early Carmilla movie-"Terror from the Crypt" with Christopher Lee ( not as a vampire), Coppola closely copied the garden scene with Mina and Lucy.
I don't like horror films. Almost feels like I don't need to watch this one. Heard movie is much better than reviews. This music tells the story, almost. Great, moving, unexpected. I keep coming back to this one. Amazing
And Gary Oldman and all the visual effects and all the pure gothic horror mood and the brides and Lucy and Van Helsing. I fucking love it. Sure it has it's weak points, like Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder=D
I wonder ❓️WHY ALL Orchestra Do Not Play: 👉 RACE AGAINST THE SUNSET .. The Sound is very MAJESTIC & TENSIVE❗️... It is the Very TYPICAL Scene in All Dracula's Movie - The Carriages closely chase Dracula. It is the High Tide of the movie... I VERY VERY EXPECT to hear that live play.
Thank you somuch for sharing this. Touching the soul stuff" powerfull food for the spirit. Thank you my friend. Ive always wanted to see a video about the making of the soundtrack of Coppola´s Dracula , for me a master piece of a film, Epic. I would love to see a video with the actual musicians that create that amazing movie soundtrack. Wojciech Kilar in the studio creating this master piece for Coppola´s Dracula. If anybody knows of such video , please let me know. Again friend, thank you for sharing this
