Josh Baer joins David Leiber for a curated tour of the Albers and Morandi: Never Finished exhibition at David Zwirner Gallery at 537 West 20th Street (on view until April 3rd 2021). Leiber, who is a partner at the gallery, spent four years organizing the exhibition. They discuss the relationship between the two painters while touching on what makes up a good Morandi and how both artists both drew inspiration from Cézanne.

Very interesting to hear these two spoken of in parallel. I am a huge fan of Morandi. He's a great inspiration. I like the way his objects are a vehicle for exploring the formal aspects of painting. He's like a non representational artist who happens to use objects as his hook. And yet the objects allow us to see beyond them, or feel beyond them as Morandi plays with space and form.

The difference is money. He said it himself, the more popular the higher the price. No mystery there. Nothing to do with genius, composition or color.
