In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, we bring back Josh Bowmar for another lengthy podcast of talkin' gear, deer, and everything in between. Josh shares with us a lot of his techniques and tactics for killing giant bucks year after year. Much like us, he's working for whitetail success all year long. Time and time again, we discuss how there is no off-season. When it's not hunting season, it's time for habitat management and making your farm hunt the best it can when it matters most. We also talk about Josh's crazy bow setup, hunting wild game in Africa, and the ethics behind long range bow shots. We hope you guys enjoy this episode with Josh Bowmar. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

I’m 67 been deer hunting 35 years (bow only, been shooting since I was 6). Listening to this just makes me sad deer hunting has come to all this technology, what happened to the days when you went and sat not knowing what was going to come. To me that’s the exciting part of hunting. I probably spend over 200 hours a year hunting, I just love being out in the woods enjoying nature. I hunt 5 farms virtually to myself during bow season (family and friends) in Nebraska. I’m not condemning cameras and such it’s what you want to get out of it that’s important. God bless. 🏹🏹🦌🦌

Josh talking about only using 75# letoff is funny as hell to us old guys. In the 90's I was shooting a 80lb Martin with 60% letoff and first stated out in the mid 80's with a 70lb Jennings with a 45% letoff, now that was hard to hold for long. Love my newer bow that is 65lbs and 75% letoff, works great for this old guy.

Love the topic about our mentality and how it correlates with our success in the whitetail woods. I FULLY buy into this thought. It seems like the days where I am “happy go lucky,” confident, excited, I have great sits. The days where I’m “down,” stressed, etc. I usually have terrible sits. I’ve said for years that the deer can sense that and don’t want any part of it. Cool topic!

15:59 id say the reason why more booners are shot in drier years has nothing to do with nutritional value of the food. And more to do with limiting the number of places that booner can find good food/cover, thus making him easier to pattern and easier to hunt

In regards to water holes, here is something that I’ve noticed just the last couple of years. I have a mineral site every summer. The deer eat the dirt down and it forms a deep hole. When it rains, that hole fills up into a water hole, and my mineral sits in it and probably soaks up into the water, and after every single rain I’ll have a ton of deer, including every big buck I have on camera in that area, show up the same day after a big rain, and they drink that water like it’s a snack for them. And there’s a creek in a bottom close by, so I know they are preferring this water hole over the creek water.

I thought the same about Josh and Sarah at one time also. I don't know what number it was but he was on the huntr podcast once before and he explained the whole situation about their poaching charges. Josh admitted they they probably should have known better and took responsibility for his actions. They're poaching charges were pretty trumped up and it was really the outfitter in my opinion who was violating laws. It changed my opinion of Josh and Sarah from that day forward. If you have time you should find it and watch that podcast it would probably change your opinion too, maybe not but I feel that Josh and Sarah are big name hunters with deep pockets therefore they were hammered much worse than your average Joe. I stand by my comments I believe Josh is an ethical hunter but I also rushed judgment and thought he was a poaching POS before I knew the facts and that wasn't fair to Josh or Sarah. You really gotta know the facts before you judge people. Just my 2 cents check out that podcast and good luck out there this fall 👍.

If you are driving that far to hunt and spent that much money. After the first warning the dog needs to go. All dogs go to heaven anyway or so they say.

I lost all respect for him and his wife when they caught charges and pled guilty. This is not to say he is not a very knowledgeable person, but those actions are not those I see as being someone I would want to look up to, be associated with, or take advice from. He even had charges stemming from a controlled burn that got out of control bc he was burning on a day that was not an ideal day to burn. This is habitat management 101. Sry don’t trust the Bowmars.

Go watch the last podcast with him on. He explains the charges and the guy loves the outdoors and puts in more work than anyone I’ve ever seen to tag animals. Easy to cast judgement on someone in the spotlight.

@@countryroadsoutdoors7854 no problem. I thought the same thing from what I had heard about the guy from other hunters and social media. After hearing his side of how things went down changed my perspective on a lot of things I’ve “learned” from old timers haha
