We all know you love the Big12, and I can respect that, but there’s no way FSU, or Clemson would go there. Of course the SEC and Big Ten are acting like they don’t need to add any more teams. They’re only saying that in hopes of getting FSU, Clemson, and the other high value ACC teams at a discount rate. FSU Always ranks within the top 15 Nationally of the most viewed teams in college football. Viewership equals money! The top tier teams in the ACC will end up in either the Big Ten or the SEC! GUARANTEE!

I'm new to this conversation so help me out a little. Won't ESPN have something to say about how much FSU and Clemson get paid IF the SEC accepts them? Why would the broadcast network - who is struggling financially - give them another $40 million or so per year? Different networks but same question IF B1G accepts them?

I think FSU + Clemson and others will go to the Independent conference for football only. Will stay in the ACC conference for other sports. Or 20 teams in the big 10 and big 12 , will have 10 teams in the south and 10 teams in the north or west and east. Big east should bring back football conference. Conference realignment will end in 2030s. Everything will settle down by then.

Everything's already been settled, P2 get in playoffs, everyone else is just a bye, spotfillers to eject P2 losses out of conference, No B12 will ever be allowed to enter playoffs. Even if undefeated, they will be shut out like G5 or FSU. That's what last year was all about in case you weren't paying attention....Only ND might get in by invite. ANY notion that realignment is something in the future is folly. It's already occurred. What's in it for any SEC team to vote for the addition of CLEMFSU? SEC only worries about those teams if they have Heisman level QB'S . Otherwise, they're just an annoyance in recruiting battles, which will take care of itself by keeping them out of the P2. SEC would vote to take patsies like UNC/UVA if they need to balance numbers or scheduling.

the B1G and the SEC can't and don't want to take 12-15 more teams from another conference. 15 of the ACC teams have no other desirable options. Conference will survive. Also, to the ESPN will drop them idiots, remember that ESPN needs content to fill there networks and new streaming platform. If they drop the ACC just because FSU and Clemson are in the Big 12, how does ESPN replace the ACC basketball content? With Sunbelt basketball? I know it doesn't move the needle like football, but it's content they need, none the less. If shitty content didn't matter, none of you would have a Netflix account!

FSU took out a huge private equity loan called project Osceola. College football is going the golf route if Espn and Fox don't pay someone else will. The days of teams beinng forced to a conference with equal pay are over. If the conference model was so great ND would had joined a long time ago but its not its socialism not capitalism. I dont see FSU giving any ACC schools a dime as they are doing whats in their best interest and the ACC schools have repeatedly refused to invest in football even fighting FSU when adding any football school like Miami or Louisville. ACC would much rather have schools that dillute it even more in football like Cal, SMU and Stanford. ACC is a joke

So ignorant... a) Please remember that over a recent 10-year period, FSU ranked last in the ACC in football investment. From what I see, FSU favored investing in other sports to try and get closer to peer with FLOIRDA. b) CAL+2 is part of a managed decline to the Tier 2 treating UNC, CLEMSON and FSU as already gone. FSU fan critical thinking would be a joke if not so pitiful.

Anyone who thinks that the ACC is going to cease to exist, like what happened to the Pac10, if three or four schools leave is naive. The reason the Pac10 folded is because everyone (except 2 schools) had other options. That does not apply to the ACC with the possible exceptions of 2, 3, or maybe 4 schools. The ACC will survive, albeit with less TV money, etc.
@TheAcreanCandidate

That's the thing though. Pitt, Louisville, NC State, VT and Georgia Tech are big enough brands that they can probably get into the Big 12. The big concern in the ACC is the BCs and WFs making like 0 revenue and dragging everyones payouts down. The ratio of money makers to non money makers is too low. Meanwhile, the Big 12 doesn't have any brands that make like 0 money--every schools sells out their games and pulls in decent ratings.

Of course no one associated with the B1G or SEC is going to come out publicly and say anything because they don’t want to be sued. The only thing I disagree with Josh on is that the market, specifically the TV market, is not important as beer and soap ads are how the networks are getting all that money they are paying the SEC and B1G. Some of us saw this coming last year when people were saying the PAC still had a chance to stay together. Disney told ESPN to spend less money, so if they can get out of the ACC deal, they will, they certainly aren't giving them more money to stay together. The Big 12 stayed together because Fox said they wanted to maintain a presence in Texas and that is the only reason. We are going to end up with 2 conferences of 24 teams, we may have an interim period of 2 power conferences with around 20 teams each and a lesser Big 12 with 20 or schools, but eventually Fox and Friends will have all their eggs in the B1G basket and ESPN will have all their eggs in the SEC basket and everyone else will be AAC level conferences.

The only expansion the Big10 is interested in any time soon is when Notre Dame figures out that the writing is on the wall and they're going to have to join a conference in football or they're not going to be able to play a competitive enough schedule to make the college football playoff. And if the ACC is cooked by that point, they'll be in the Big10 very very shortly. The only caveat will be that they will probably bring another team with them to maintain an even # of teams AND so they can preserve all their traditional rivals within the conference...and if you're doing the math in your head, the only traditional ND rival that is currently not in the Big10 as of now is...Stanford. The thinking the last couple years is that ND is going to be forced to join a conference in football or there isn't going to be enough tv $ or a schedule out there for them to compete especially as these conferences grow and end up playing 9 or 10 league games and less and less non-con games. They've always banked on the ACC if it comes to that, like the COVID year. But the ACC may not be around. Could they tuck tail and go to the Big12? Yeah, but I doubt that will happen. I don't believe their pride, or $ would let them settle for the Big12 when they could get into the Big10 where all their rivals and a bigger slice of TV $ is - and, the key nobody talks about too, Marcus Freeman is a Big10 guy. And if they keep having winning seasons and recruiting well, and it looks like he may be content to stay there for quite some time, he is going to have a major voice inside their decision when it comes to joining a conference. Outside of taking ND and their +1 (which is 90% likely to be Stanford), the Big10 doesn't view itself as a life raft for any of these other schools. It'll be interesting to see what happens if the Big10 and SEC don't want to take any of the ACC teams. Would they merge with the Big12?

I love good fiction. Good plot line in an imaginary story. Fox is paying the B1G a whopping $8b to broadcast its football games and it’s no longer 1984. In 2024, it’s all about the money. 💰 When the B1G added USC/UCLA it gave Fox entry into the lucrative California market and now Fox has their sights set firmly on the third largest state, Florida and, coupled with the fact that FSU is #7 in viewership (ND is #8) and is a national brand with three NC’s since ND last won one all the way back in 1989, makes FSU the top target 🎯. Viewership is the new currency of CFB and FSU is a cash machine. OTOH, Stanford is so bad and worthless that no conference would take them but the desperate ACC. Remember, the B1G had the chance to add Stanford when they picked up the other two California schools and refused. What has changed since then? Nothing.

Miami has the resources to bolt. Elite football budget $74M up there with Bama UGA and Ohio State. 3rd best draw while UNC/UVA have half the TV viewership of Miami and half the football budget. To not have Miami as a top choice for the BiG paired with FSU isn’t good business. Clemson is fine, but not close to AAU, very Southern in culture. Nothing to contribute to the BIG research consortium. FSU Miami gets the whole state of FL for Fox right in the middle of SEC country.

The Big 10 doesn't have ESPN. Look at Oklahoma and Texas. These two schools have way more prestige than any ACC team. If they have go from the Big 12 to the SEC to stay in the ESPN ecosystem then so are the ACC teams. FSU has been scared of the SEC since Bobby Bowden. It's not the Big 10's job to save FSU or any ACC team.

Unfortunately the B10/SEC will never allow those brands to get to the B12. They may not want to expand, but you can bet your life savings on the fact they'd expand to keep the B12 from landing those high profile brands, because in the long run those 2 are aiming to be the only game in town. We literally saw this already with Oregon and Washington. Just when rumors started picking up about them possibly looking toward the B12 because the B10 wanted to stand pat, boom the B10 suddenly finds room for them. So while it may be in the best interest of CFB in the long run, its just not gonna happen.

Attaboy Josh...what a sneaky crazy steal it would be to plunder Miami and UNC. The two make very good sense...one for Hoops and one for Football.
@timkinley1779
@timkinley1779 4 месяца назад
Neither of the two are relevant in football. Miami ranks around 49th in attendance and 51st in viewership. They bring no value to any conference. Miami has received more money from the ACC than they have generated since joining the conference. UNC is also middle of the pack in attendance and viewership in football. So I'm not sure who you think makes sense for football. In football value per team, Clemson is 36% of the entire conference. FSU is around 23%. Between those those two programs, they are responsible for 59% of the value of the entire ACC in footbal.l

@@tomdubay2225 Think about it.... FSU's football is dead whether it waits out the ACC GOR or lands in the BIG12, so why not a Hail Mary and hope for a P2 invite? It's not an ACC founder. It's not that invested in an academic association, other sports, etc. The BIG12 is the worst case, but the risk is worth it from the FSU perspective. In contrast, CLEMSON is a founder and much closer to the other founders. CLEMSON also is smart enough to know where it is in the priority list. As a result, CLEMSON has allied with UNC, which has agreed to a coattail to the SEC when it can and does move. So CLEMSON can remain in the ACC (which is better than the BIG12) during and after its litigation but has secured an SEC invite when UNC moves.
@tomdubay2225
@tomdubay2225 4 месяца назад

@tarheel7406 4 месяца назад
@@tomdubay2225 Nope... Most every (if not every) reporter and analyst have stated that UNC and UVA are the top expansion targets of both the SEC and B1G (ignoring ND). Accept that reality and then look at what FSU and CLEMSON are doing. FSU has publicly stated that it has to get Tier 1 revenue by a certain date to remain competitive. That is an admission of desperation. The SEC sees CLEMSON/FSU as disposable. The B1G would have preferred WASH/ORE stay in a surviving PAC (or even BIG12) until a later revisit, so FSU may be forced to simmer in the BIG12. The pivotal schools are ND, UVA & UNC. ND likely as secured the ACC only losing the 3 objectors and getting a renewal to cover the near future. UNC has agreed to go SEC with CLEMSON, but neither can move until UNC can. UVA is in limbo. The B1G wants ND & UNC, so it may not expand again until UNC is either secured or lost ~or~ ND somehow breaks loose. It will always leave slots open for both until. FSU could just be hoping that the B1G will take just on the risk that the SEC may change its mind on same.

The ACC's goose was cooked when it chose (poorly) to expand into the Northeast, essentially throwing life preservers to meddling Big East football programs. How'd that work out for the conference's men's basketball prestige? When the dust settles, the most valuable brands will end up joining the Big Ten and SEC; those who missed the cut, while still offering strong markets, will join the Big 12. The leftovers will likely form a Group-of-Five caliber super-conference with the American, etc.

The shame of it all is that from 2013-18 The ACC was the most dominant football conference. 3 nattys, two Heismans, so many individual award winners. LSU had an all time great team in 19 and then covid happened and we had post covid and now in 2023 the PAC and Big 10 was on top. Now we have a sport that wants to act like the ACC never existed let alone dominated. What trash. And the ACC admin is trash, knowingly letting the most valuable conference members be setup for failure.

@LateKickwithJoshPate The $380M annual contract that the Big 12 signed was for 12 schools. The ESPN portion had automatic pro-rata provisions for up to 4 P5 schools. The Fox portion did not contractually stipulate support for pro-rata, but I think they agreed in the case of the 4 corners. In any case, $380M is not the correct value of the Big 12 contract for the current 16 schools. Assuming pro rata, that number is $505M.

Considerring everything going on I would love to see 3 24teem conferences. Each with 4- 6 team regionaly relevent divisions. 5 divional games, 6 non divisional conference games, so tha every three years you play everybody in the conferences. 16 team play-off with12 divional/(regional) champs+4 teamwildcard playoff division for the four best non divional champ teams. The conference championship included in playof. Every game matters. Each conference negotiates pay for there conference and conference championship game tv contracts. Conferences which place more wild card teams get more money. This restores regional rivalries, increases relevant games, without increasing number of games played. This could help with nil, transfer portal, watchability of games, andstabalize the sport that we love, without removing the things that made it great, or overlyburdanning players eith too many games or segragating to many teams out of the big picture. With 3 conferences the mony should be good. The group of 5 would need there own playoff. L
