It’s safe to say Alabama isn’t going anywhere with all the great moves they’ve made after nick saban retired. I give almost the credit to Greg Byrne he’s made a lot of great hires at Alabama from Nate Oats , rob Vaughn and now Kalen deboer.

@@DuragVon if anything it’s the athletic department that’s the juggernaut. Yes Alabama football is exactly that. But you have to give credit to Greg Byrne on replacing the all time great in saban with a top 2 or 3 head coach in college football.

Saban was great 💯 but retaining an elite coaching staff around him had become impossible. Coaches were poached as much as players. Deboer has surrounded himself with an excellent coaching staff! RTR4LIFE 💪🔥🐘

@@Kdavis8377 It's an open secret that Saban couldn't get good coaches to come to the program anymore. I mean, Pete Golding, Bill O'Brien, Tommy Rees, and the corpse of Kevin Steele was the best he could get. Not to mention the position coaches, Bama's WR coach couldn't develop a WR to save his life, Marrone and whatever OL coach they got from Kentucky coached some of the worst OLs Saban's ever had who couldn't even snap. Coaches didn't want to come play for Saban if he was just going to retire in a year or two anyway. Every coach Bama has replaced outside of HC this offseason has been a steep upgrade, and it's hard to say that DeBoer is that much of a downgrade himself.

Also, another thing that does not get talked about much is taxes. California tax is a lot higher than Alabama. 1 million in Cali money is not a much as 850k in Alabama money. Also add the cost of living is higher in Cali, that USC deal is not as good as how much he was getting paid before the raise.

With college football slowly becoming NFL light the GM position will soon take over the athletic director position for football. One day the board of trustees at a school will hire a GM before a head coach and the GM will recommend (hire) the head coach just like in the NFL.

Two entirely different positions with the same name. In college football, the GM is basically in charge of making sure recruits are found and evaluated, then they keep in touch with them and stroke their egos to keep them committed. The GM manages the details of official visits. For players on the team, they monitor the academic progress of all players. They make sure the players are happy and have everything they need to stay eligible. Basically they do all the crap that head coaches don't want to deal with.

The NCAA does not regulate off field staff. You can have as many off field staff as you want. But the position isn't new. It was called Director of Player Development or Director of Recruiting. The athletic department employs a couple of hundred people. Strength and conditioning, equipment management, dietitians, enforcement staff, tutoring staff, medical staff and financial advisors. All are available to all athletes not just football and basketball.

You might be right, managing payments to players is new at Alabama. While at Auburn, they have been doing it since 1976 when Shug Jordan retired so they are old pros at it.

You all really don't accept reality, do you? Bama has the most 4 and 5 star players on their roster of any school in cfb. More than Georgia, OSU, Texas, Oregon, you name em. The overall coaching staff just significantly improved, should easily have a top 10 offense and defense. Where tf are all these losses gonna be coming from? Name 4 teams on Bamas schedule that are better. Bama is clearly a playoff team and championship contender, and that's obvious to any logical thinking person who watches football. Oh, and recruiting hasn't fallen off at all. You all really are making fools of yourselves, Stop.

I get Alabama has recruited well and coach Saban set the standard of what it is to be a champion… that being said it’s crazy to think there won’t be a massive drop off man. Did you see the defensive coach they brought from Washington that got gutted like a fish in the national title game? Sorry, but as someone who’s team had an offensive minded coach and didn’t win 1 playoff game during their stretch, it’s easy to say they stand 0% winning the SEC playing the type of defense he plays. That isn’t beating lsu Georgia Oklahoma Texas or ole miss 🤷🏻‍♂️
