I think it's beautiful you added yourself to the equation. You connected not only to your children but also to the environment. In my country, we're frequently visited by typhoon (one is happening as I write). Also, I'm pretty sure there is many a venomous animal lurking around. But most importantly, my dad never brought us to camp. Anyways, I think your children will remember your efforts to go camping with them :)
@mayimbialik love this. It's real, and as others have said, poetic. Keep it up! We live a stone's throw (somewhat) from Joshua Tree and yes, in the rain or sun, it can be mind blowing. The cholla is pronounced 'choy-yuh' (Spanish name, the double ll is pronounced as a "yuh" sound, coincidentally if you're in a Spanish speaking place and talk about a llama, you would pronounce that as 'yamma' kind of a blend of yo mama, fun fact!) And just a 'heads up!' ->if you get close enough to these lovelies they "jump", literally, some of us (and some sciencey folks too) actually call them 'jumping cholla', and you do not want a hug from a cholla. : ) So, pretty as they are, keep some defensible space between you and them. Trust me on this. (or not, google and or youtube 'jumping cholla') peace out!
I think it is unfortunate this video has some of the fewest views of your posted videos because this is, in my not humble opinion, one of the most valuable things on the internet.
That last message made me tear up that was so beautiful. The deep messages you add to everything are phenomenal and i could listen to you talk for hours. I love you so much you are amazing keep these videos coming and i will keep smiling!
I totally think like that all the time, making up stories about nature. and I don't let kids watch TV either, we're just always talking and being present in the moment. it's the best.

My family moved to 29 Palms in 1970 and we lived there for about 18 months. Joshua Tree National Monument was my Dad's job location and an interesting place with James Cagney (we swam in his pool for Church Youth Group). Colors and views that touch the soul as well as the eyes.

I feel like there is a book waiting to come springing out of this. I feel l like I wasn't ready for it to end: like how I used to feel when my sister stole the remote and changed the channel before my show ended. Thank you for showing that divorced couples can still make valuable memories with their children.

I loved your words. If I were your director though, I'd say "Great! Now do it again, and just say the words slightly slower, but do everything else the same." But I'm not a director. So instead, I'll just say, thank you for taking me to Joshua Tree. I've never been, and I hate camping and nature so I'll never go. But I'm happy to have gone through you.

Its crazy but, this desert looks a lot like 29palms. I suspect Joshua tree is some where close to that location. When I look at the camp grounds you improvised on, it to me looked like a flood zone. For me, that would've been a no go. The night with out clouds would've been priceless! Total star fest! When training in 29palms, Ft Irwin, and Camp Pendelton at night it was great! When bivwac/camping, with night vision gear, it was even better! The sad part is it was both fun and games. At night the opposing force (op-for) would likely be sneeking up on you, to roll smoke granades converted into gas (CS) among the tents and or bags. Then light up the night with blanks and pyro's! Yeah, if I was op-for, I would be doing the same. Looking at that area, brought back memories. Thanks! Keep up the good work!
I love your flights of fancy delivered ala David Attenborough, made me laugh. The refrain of adding yourself to a plan had a nice poetic (and philosophical) rhythm.

This was such a beautiful video not for that hability with the camera but all the pretty words you said, full of feelings. I also live in a desert zone (Baja California Sur, Mexico) and that is my day to day view, thank you for reminding me how beautiful and special is everything in such an extreme place
